Comments on MPs: Court hearing against Kejriwal

A Delhi court will on Tuesday hear a criminal case against noted RTI activist and key Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal for making derogatory comments on MPs.

Kejriwal had triggered a political storm by saying that Parliament was filled with murderers, rapists and dacoits, while addressing a rally in February this year.

The social activist was also served with a Breach of Privilege notice for his derogatory comments on MPs where he compared them to rapists, murderers and looters.

Kejriwal had alleged that 162 MPs, including 14 ministers, were corrupt and rapists.

•Strawberry – 5 nos
•Lemon – 1
•Sugar – to taste
•Water – 1/4 cup
•Club soda – 500 ml
•Ice Cubes – as needed

Method

Powder the sugar in a mixie jar. To this add strawberry and grind well to a soft pulp. Transfer this to a bowl. Squeeze lemon juice to this mixture, add water and mix well.

Take a glass and place 2-3 ice cubes and fill 1/4th with the strawberry lemon mixture. Top with club soda and enjoy.

Indian immigrant kills wife for wearing Western clothes‎

A 37-year-old Indian migrant in Italy killed his pregnant wife because she loved wearing western clothes and he wanted to punish her for going against Indian traditions.

The Indian – whose name was given as Kulbir Singh – told police in Piacenza city in northern Italy that he strangled to death his 27-year-old wife – named as Balwinde Kaur – before throwing her corpse in the Po river, the AKI news agency reported.

Shiv Sena demonstrates over Marathi TV producers’ issue

Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Monday held demonstrations outside the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, popularly known as Film City to protest against its proposal to scrap 50 per cent concessions to Marathi TV producers.

The Sena morcha was led by MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, Abhijit Panse, while the MNS group was led by Amey Khopkar, its film cell head.

US responsible for Houla massacre

The new Iranian Majlis (parliament) has strongly condemned the ruthless massacre of defenseless Syrians in Houla, saying the US is responsible for the attack.

“The barbaric massacre of the innocent people of Houla, in Homs, is reminiscent of the merciless terrorist atrocities in Sabra and Shatila and is a blatant symbol of terrorist acts and mass murder in this juncture of human history,” the 9th Majlis lawmakers said in a statement Monday.

On May 25, deadly clashes broke out between Syrian forces and armed groups in Houla, located in the central province of Homs.

AI likely to reopen international bookings

Air India, which is operating a curtailed global flight schedule due to the pilots’ strike, is likely to reopen international bookings and firm up a fresh operating schedule by this weekend with the help of 130 executive pilots.

The airline said the three-week agitation by over 200 pilots has seen a drop in the number of its international passengers by about 3,000 and that its financial loss had gone up to over Rs 320 crore for this period.

Man refuses to buy AC, wife commits suicide

A 32-year-old woman on Monday allegedly committed suicide when her husband turned down her request for a air-conditioner machine for lack of money at East Bengal Colony in Jamshedpur.

Bina Das hanged herself following a quarrel with her husband over the demand of an AC machine, the police said.

She had been demanding the AC machine for nearly a week in view of the scorching heatwave prevailing in the Steel City in Jamshedpur, sources said.

Following a quarrel, Das hanged herself on Monday.

Court permits Zakia to examine SIT documents

A local court in Ahmedabad on Monday allowed Zakia Jaffery to examine documents submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to it in relation to closure report against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in riot cases.

Zakia, wife of former Congress MP Eshan Jaffery killed in Gujarat riots, on Monday filed a revised application in the court of metropolitan magistrate B J Ganatra saying that many documents submitted by the SIT to her were in bad condition and not readable.

Besides, she also listed around 85 documents which she claimed were missing from the SIT report.

Petrol cheaper by Rs 1.26/litre in Delhi

The Delhi budget on Monday slashed VAT on the hiked price of petrol but slapped it on transport fuel CNG while beedis, unmanufactured tobacco, sarees, plastic cups and glasses would become costlier with fresh levies on them.

Petrol will be cheaper by Rs 1.26 and will now cost Rs 71.92 a litre after the cut which had risen to Rs 73.18 after last week’s hike. The CNG price will see an increase of Rs 1.77 from Rs 35.45 per kg which may trigger demand for hike in bus, taxi and auto fares besides having an impact on transportation cost of goods.

19 killed in mall fire

At least 19 people, including 13 children, were killed and 17 others wounded in a fire at a shopping mall here in the Qatar capital, Xinhua reported.

An official from the Interior Ministry said that among the dead, four were teachers, while another two were security personnel. Among the wounded, four were children.

According to an official from the Spanish Foreign Ministry in Madrid, four of the dead children were Spanish.

Videos posted online showed black smoke rising from the shopping mall.

The mall is popular among the expatriate community in the oil-rich Gulf country.

3 cops held for raping minor inside police post

Three police constables and their civilian friend were arrested and sent to jail in Budaun in connection with the rape of a minor girl inside a police outpost late in the night on Sunday. Allegations are that the victim and her maternal grandfather were brought to the police outpost after the locals near Durgah Barde Sarkar got suspicious of their behaviour and informed the police. At the police outpost, the cops first allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the duo to let them free.

US terror strikes kill 31 in 72 hours

US terror drones and attack helicopters have killed 31 people in Yemen, Pakistan, and Afghanistan over the course of 72 hours.

A non-UN sanctioned US assassination drone strike in the southern Yemeni province of Bayda left seven people dead on Monday. The drone fired missiles on a convoy of three cars near the town of Radda, 160 kilometers south of the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

A local official said the target of the strike was al-Qaeda’s leader in Bayda province, Qaed al-Dahab, and his brother, both of whom escaped uninjured.

Women arrested for cheating ‘husbands’

A 35 year-old woman was arrested in Rajasthan for duping at least a dozen men whom she married before disappearing with gold and other valuables, police said Monday. Three men who helped her have also been arrested.

Savitri Devi, a resident of Maharashtra’s Akola and her accomplices, Lakhveer Singh, Shivram and Biraji Lal, belonging to Madhya Pradesh were arrested Monday in Bundi, some 200 km from Jaipur.

US Pentagon has plans for military strike on Iran: Panetta

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the Pentagon has readied plans to carry out a military strike on Iran if diplomacy fails in the dispute over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

“The fundamental premise is that neither the United States or the international community is going to allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. We will do everything we can to prevent them from developing a weapon,” Panetta said in an interview with ABC’s This Week on Sunday.

2 NATO copter crashes in eastern Afghanistan

Another NATO helicopter has crashed in eastern Afghanistan after at least two US-led foreign soldiers were killed in Monday’s first such incident.

NATO said in a statement that one helicopter crashed in Afghanistan on Monday and two soldiers were killed, without giving further details about the incident.

Our correspondent in Afghanistan reported the second helicopter went down only hours after the first incident.

The Taliban militant group claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Man held for spying near Ahmadinejad’s helicopter

A man has been arrested by Iranian security forces on suspicion of spying for an Arab state’s intelligence agency, the Fars news agency reported.

“A person with a known identity who is linked with the spy service of an Arab state has been arrested by the Sabzevar (city) Corps,” RIA Novosti quoted the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as saying in a statement.

The alleged spy was held after he penetrated the landing pad of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s helicopter during his visit to the city earlier this month.

Youth held with firecrackers at Modi’s function

A 22-year-old youth from Rajasthan was on Monday arrested by police who said three crude bombs and a matchbox were found on him as he tried to enter the Rajasthani Sammelan at Parvat Patia here being addressed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The youth has been identified as Noor Mohammed Sama, a resident of Bharatnagar in Bhatena who hails from Barmer district in Rajasthan.

According to police, Noor Mohammed is a tempo driver who has been living in Surat for the last few months.

Noor Mohammed was later produced before a judicial magistrate which sent him in one-day police custody.
