(Siasat News) Mr. Mohammed Pahelwan who was implicated in Chandrayangutta, Barkas attack case went to Nampally Criminal Court and surrendered. He was accompanied by his family members and a large number of his followers. He had received written orders yesterday from the court after his bail was cancelled to surrender to court. He presented himself at the court of III Addl. Metropolitan Magistrate. The magistrate gave him in judicial custody for 14 days. It may be recalled that justice K.C. Bhanu of A.P.

Police constables’ written test coaching inaugurated by Siasat

(Siasat News) Free coaching programme of written test for the candidates who have passed the physical fitness test for recruitment as police constable was inaugurated by Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor Siasat at Abid Ali Khan Eye hospital at Darulshifa.

Addressing the inaugural function, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan said that the candidates should try to get good marks in the written tests. He told that their aspirations are high and they got encouragement due to their success in the physical fitness tests. He also told that their family members have high hopes and expectations with them.

Nupur Talwar fasts in jail

The prime accused in the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case, Nupur Talwar spent her second night in Dasna jail on Tuesday after a sessions court in Ghaziabad reserved its order on her bail application. The court is expected to pass its order on her bail plea on Wednesday.

Reportedly, Nupur has told the jail authorities that she will stay on a fast until the court delivers its verdict.

As the Talwars hope that things go their way on Wednesday, they also hope that their review petition in the Supreme Court will bring them some relief.

CPI-M wants govt to man liquor shops & sand quarries

Expressing doubts whether creation of Lokpal will put a lid on corruption completely, former president A P J Abdul Kalam on Tuesday said Lokpal would only fill up jails and children and youth could begin eradicating corruption from home.

“What Lokpal will do is if it finds anyone guilty it would put them in jail, and jails will be filled up. What we want is nobody should go to jail … as we want good human beings,” Kalam said while interacting with children here.

SC takes over Rajiv assassins’ mercy pleas

The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided to adjudicate itself the pleas of Rajiv Gandhi killers against their death penalty due to the delay of over 11 years in deciding their mercy petitions by the President.

A bench headed by Justice GS Singhvi directed that their petitions, pending with the Madras High Court, be sent to it and listed the case for hearing on July 10.

14-year-old girl foils marriage attempt

She is 14 years old and a school dropout, but West Bengal resident Seema still mustered up the courage to stand up to her family and foiled an attempt to get her married by calling a helpline.

The Grade 7 dropout, who was to tie the nuptial knot today, called up the helpline number urging them to intervene and stop her marriage, police said yesterday. The incident took place in Purulia district.

‘Sexual abuse on rise in US prisons’

Tens of thousands of people have been sexually abused in US prisons as the administration of President Barack Obama failed to monitor the jails over the past three years.

The Washington Post reported that the US Justice Department was charged with implementing regulations to reduce the sexual violence behind bars.

Magnitude 6.3 quake hits off southwest Mexico

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off southwest Mexico near the Guatemalan border, the US Geological Service said.

The quake, which hit 82 km west-southwest of Suchiate, Chiapas, yesterday had a depth of 43 km, the USGS said.

The quake’s magnitude was originally listed as 6.0

Earlier yesterday, a 5.5 magnitude quake 210 km from Mexico City shook the capital, but officials had no reports of damage in the city.
