Aamir scared of showing ‘Satyamev Jayate’ to friends

Aamir Khan, who is set to make his TV debut with ‘Satyamev Jayate’, says he is scared of reactions and that’s why he didn’t show it to anyone.

“I haven’t shown it to anyone. I am scared about showing it to anyone. If I show it to someone and they don’t like it, then my heart will break,” the 47-year-old said on the sets of the TV soap ‘Diya aur Bati Hum’.

“I am waiting for May 6 and everyone will watch it that day itself,” he added.

‘Satyamev Jayate’ would go on air simultaneously on DD National and Star Plus.

Meanwhile, Aamir also talked about his favourite TV programme.

Woman jumps before moving train, dies

A 35-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train near Beheta Hajipur railway crossing of the district, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the unidentified woman jumped before the Delhi-Saharanpur passenger train, they said.

The reasons behind the extreme step taken by the woman are yet to be ascertained.

The body has been taken for postmortem, police said, adding that efforts are on to trace her identity.

Cop jailed for 3 yrs for treating sis-in-law cruelly for dowry

A Delhi Police constable has been sentenced to three years in jail by a court for subjecting his brother’s wife to cruelty for bringing insufficient dowry, which eventually led her to commit suicide.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Gurdeep Singh sentenced 48-year-old Mahipal ruing that despite being a member of a
law-enforcing agency, he himself breached law.

Indian student seeks upturning of hate crime conviction

An Indian-origin student of Rutgers University, who was found guilty of bias intimidation for spying on his gay roommate’s sexual encounter, is seeking to have the conviction against him overturned and be granted a new trial in the case.

Lawyers for Dharun Ravi, 20, submitted a 33-page brief in Superior Court in New Brunswick requesting that the judge
acquit him entirely or at least grant him a new trial.

The motion also requests that Ravi be allowed to remain free on bail after sentencing, pending the planned appeal.

Kiran racks brains as Sonia talks of ups, downs

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy returned to Hyderabad with mixed feelings after meeting party president Sonia Gandhi for over half an hour exclusively at her residence in Delhi on Tuesday evening.

She reportedly told him that “ups and downs are common in public life and he should not get upset over such developments”. Confidantes say Kiran Reddy is trying to guess what she meant.

The chief minister reportedly took it that she was referring to party’s performance in the recent byelections and that she was only telling him not to worry over it.

Action against Kasab after SC judgement: Chidambaram

Under attack in Parliament over delay in implementing the death sentence of Mumbai attack convict Ajmal Kasab, Home Minister P Chidambaram today said action would be taken against him after the Supreme Court gives its decision on his appeal.

“We must decide as a nation are we committed for the rule of law,” Chidambaram said when Shiv Sena member Anandrao Adsul raised the issue of delay in hanging Kasab.

If the nation was committed to the rule of law, then Kasab has to be allowed a fair trial, an appeal and a further appeal to plead his case, he said.

Couple murdered

Unidentified persons allegedly murdered a couple in their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, police said here today.

Digvijay Singh, aged 52, was killed with a sharp-edged weapon while his wife was strangulated late last night, they
said.

Their bodies were found in their house in Dhampur area in Basera Kunwar village this morning.

Court orders probe against 3 cops for closing cheating case

A Delhi court has ordered a probe against three police officials, including an ACP, for getting closed a cheating case, victimising an 82-year-old NRI, by filing the closure report of the case in a court other than in which it had been lodged.

While ordering Delhi police commissioner to launch a vigilance probe against the police officials, Additional
Sessions Judge Surinder S Rathi also ticked off the court of chief metropolitan magistrate for accepting the closure report without notifying the NRI and hearing him.

Siddique asks govt to make public investigation on pvt co

Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Abdul Bari Siddique today asked the state government to make public the update of vigilance investigation on a private company ordered by the erstwhile RJD government after it breached a Supreme Court directive.

Siddique told reporters here the company had breached the Supreme Court directive for revival of Ashok Paper Mill at Darbhanga and the government should make public update of vigilance investigation on the company before considering its interest on investment of Rs 2000 crore in the factory.

BJP hopes to win 200 LS seats in 2014 elections: Gadkari

BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said the party would disclose the name of its prime ministerial candidate at an “appropriate” time and at present is focused on winning at least 200 seats “on its own” in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan has got her seat in the Rajya Sabha shifted to seat no. 143. Reports say this came after her co-star from the 1981 film ‘Silsila’, Rekha, was allotted seat number 99, which was right behind her previous seat 91.

She requested for a seat change apparently to avoid proximity to the actress, reports said.

3,11,000 applications received for Hajj 2012

This year approximately 3,11,000 Hajj applications were received from 30 States and Union territories while the Hajj committee quota is 1 lakh 25 thousand. Despite passport compulsion there is an increase of 9 thousand applications compared to last year. Saudi jet in emergency landing

A chartered Saudia aircraft with 10 crewmen on board made emergency landing at an airport in the Gulf Kingdom after one of its landing gears failed but no one was hurt, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The aircraft was on a special flight from the western town of Madina to the nearby Red Sea port of Jeddah when the pilot detected the problem and radioed Jeddah airport, Al Watan Arabic language daily said.

The airport went on alert and some flights were suspended as civil defence sprayed special foam on the runway to prevent friction fire, it said.

Magnitude 7.2 quake hits Mexico

A major earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted offshore Mexican state of Chiapas, Tuesday, according to a local radio station. There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property.

According to Chiapas Civil Protection Direction sources, the temblor occurred at 5.43 p.m., reported Xinhua citing the local radio station.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicentre, with a depth of 44 km, was initially determined to be at 14.42 degrees north latitude and 92.96 degrees west longitude.
