A senior American analyst says the US government’s practice of keeping people in illegal detention without providing solid evidence for their alleged crime indicates Washington’s corruption and the demise of justice in the American society.

In an article published on the Global Research website, Paul Craig Roberts said in order to justify such detentions, the US government tries to “create evidence” by illegally resorting to torture.

Italian priest jailed for sex crimes against minors

A Catholic priest in Italy has been sentenced to almost a decade in prison for sexual violence against minors.

A court in the northwest city of Genoa sentenced Riccardo Seppia to nine years, six months and 20 days in prison and fined him 28,000 euros.

Seppia was found guilty of attempted sexual violence, attempted prostitution of a minor and of attempting to furnish cocaine to minors.

The priest was arrested in May 2011 on suspicion of sexual violence against a 16-year-old altar boy and sex abuse of other youths.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday warned Bhidan Barua, 21-year-old student from Guwahati, who wants to undergo sex change operation, that he cannot use pressure tactics and threaten to commit suicide unless his petition was heard and orders passed immediately.
