Saudi Arabia’s top religious official has blamed Muslim sinfulness for instability in the Middle East, where pro-democracy unrest has toppled four heads of state. “The schism, instability, the malfunctioning of securityand the breakdown of unity that Islamic countries are facing these days is a result of the sins of the public and their transgressions,” Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al al-Sheikh was quoted as saying by al-Watan newspaper.

Kamalesh Chandran, 26, with dreams in his eyes was all set to fly from Dubai to wed his sweetheart but had to return to his accomodation after having waited for hours at the airport expecting to get his passport.

Chandran works at a furniture company in Al Barsha, Dubai, could not reach the marriage venue in Kerala, on time (Thursday May 3, 2012), because his female boss did not release his passport.

Preparation:

Boil the milk and allow it to cool down to room temperature.

NCTC violates federalism principle: Nitish

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that NCTC “violates” the principle of federalism and the structure adopted for it suffers from “serious and basic flaws”.

Referring to Emergency days, Kumar said that if such powers are given to a secret intelligence agency of the Central government, they will remain prone to misuse against political rivals and asked the government to immediately withdraw it.

O&M contractor selected for Metro Rail

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRL) has selected Keolis SA of France as an O&M contractor for operating and maintaining the Hyderabad Metro Rail System (HMRS).

It has been decided to involve Keolis during the formative stage of the project in order to take advantage of the French company’s expertise in metro rail operations and maintenance. Besides, early involvement would give sufficient time to Keolis to review the detailed design and accordingly recruit and train the manpower.

Keolis will also be helpful in testing, commissioning and trial runs of the HMRS.

Yousuf in trouble with Bangladesh intelligence

Pakistan’s former captain Mohammad Yousuf is in trouble as he is being investigated by the Bangladesh intelligence agencies for allegedly submitting a fake clearance letter to play in the Dhaka league.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has handed over the matter to the intelligence agencies after participating clubs in the Dhaka Premier League which remains suspended refused to resume playing in the event until the Yousuf matter was resolved.

The BCB had to step in after Yousuf appeared for the Victoria sporting club in the league against Abhani club on March 28.

Naked body scanners at airports soon

Naked body scanners could soon be a reality in the UK as scientists have declared them safe, reported Daily Mail.

An EU study concluded that the risk from the scanners, which uses X-Rays to scan through passengers’ clothes is ‘close to zero’.

The European Commission is expected to approve the technology and the scanners could be rules out in UK airports.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said they were waiting for this report from EU because the UK and US governments had carried similar tests and concluded the same findings.

10 killed in US terror drone strike in NW Pakistan

The unmanned aircraft targeted Dar-i-Nishtar residential region in Shawal area, some 70 kilometers (45 miles) west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan early Saturday, killing ten people and injuring several others.

Mamata unmoved, says NCTC not acceptable

Slamming the Centre for taking a unilateral decision on formation of NCTC, key UPA ally and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said such institutions “upset” the federal structure of the country and was “not acceptable” to the state.

She said setting up of institutions like National Counter Terrorism Centre with the proposed powers of arrest and seizure upsets the federal structure of the country and strongly urged the central government to withdraw order on its formation.

Omar can’t tweet live NCTC proceedings

Omar Abdullah could have tweeted live proceedings of the chief ministers’ conference meet in New Delhi on the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Saturday but the fear of being asked to leave the venue has prevented him from doing so.

In a tweet on Saturday morning, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister posted on Twitter: “NCTC meeting today. Would have live tweeted the proceedings but I’d probably be turfed out from Vigyan Bhavan.”

Jammu and Kashmir is one of the worst terrorism-hit states. Tens of thousands have died in the state since 1989 in the violence.

President Patil visits cheetah conservation centre

President Pratibha Patil came in close contact with a cheetah and caressed it during a visit to a conservation project for the endangered big cats near here.

Patil, who is here on an official visit, drove down to the project of the Cheetah Outreach Friday evening to see for herself the work being done in South Africa for conserving the fastest land animal.

A Kansas City woman who converted from Christianity to Islam has been awarded $5 million in punitive damages by a jury who found the telecommunications giant AT&T created a “hostile work environment” after her conversion, according to a judge’s order issued Friday.

Susann Bashir, a 41-year-old married mother, sued AT&T unit Southwestern Bell for what she said was a pattern of offensive and discriminatory conduct by her supervisors that began when she converted to Islam in 2005, six years after she started working for the company as a network technician.
