Delhi woman killed by in-laws, husband

A 27-year-old woman in the capital was pushed to her death by her husband and in-laws from the roof of the building in which they live. The trio have been arrested, police said Saturday.

Farzana, the mother of a three-month-old baby, was pushed from her in-laws’ house at Lahori Gate, situated in Delhi’s walled city area, around 9.30 p.m. Friday.

“The victim’s husband Javed (28) and her in-laws – Khursid (55) and Hamida (50) – were arrested Saturday on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s sister, Tahira,” a police officer said.

British biker wearing headphones killed by train

A man, believed to be wearing headphones while riding a bike, has been killed by a train in Britain, police said.

Victim Phil Dawn of market town Kirkby-in-Ashfield was hit by a train at a crossing between Sutton Park and Mansfield railway stations in Nottinghamshire Wednesday afternoon, The Sun reported.

British transport police said: “We believe at this stage he was riding his bike and had headphones on. The incident appears to have been a tragic accident.”

Unable to get married, Lucknow lovers hang themselves

After having failed to convince their families into agreeing to their marriage, a young couple committed suicide here Saturday.

The tragedy occurred in the Kasimpur village of Goasiganj area in the state capital.

India assumes ADB board of governors’ chair

Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was Saturday elected chairman of the board of governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a year.

Mukherjee will hold the chair till the conclusion of the next board of governors’ meeting, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi May 2-5 next year.

Archer Deepika Kumari wins first World Cup title

India’s Deepika Kumari won her first World Cup individual recurve gold medal Saturday in Antalya, Turkey, beating South Korea’s Lee Sung Jin by six set points to four in the final, according to information received here.

Deepika won the second set (29-27), fourth (27-26) and the fifth set (28-27) after losing the first (27-30) and the third (27-29).

Deepika is the current junior World Champion and a gold medallist at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. She had also won the Cadet World Title in 2009.

Two Omanis shot dead in Abu Dhabi

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two Omani nationals in Abhu Dhabi’s Al Ain city following a traffic accident.

According to the director of Al-Ain police, Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al-Amimi, the incident occurred Thursday and the victims died inside a car which had a Qatari number plate.

Investigations into the incident have been launched to identify the suspects and the car in which they fled the scene, he added.

Dad rapes 6-year old daughter

A Moroccan man in his 50s raped his six-year-old daughter and was after her elder sister, 10, before he was arrested by police in the north African Arab Kingdom, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The man, described by the local press as a “heinous human wolf” has just been released after serving a jail term on charges of raping his wife’s sister.

His wife discovered the crime when she noticed blood on her little daughter underwear and doctors told her that the girl had been raped.

EC to act tough against cash and liquor flow in by-polls

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Saturday assured of taking adequate measures to stop flow of liquor and cash to lure voters in the by-elections for the 18 assembly and one Parliament seats in the State.

Talking to reporters at the State Secretariat, Bhanwarlal said that the Election Commission would also ensure that all candidates stop their campaign 48-hours before the polling. He informed that nearly Rs 5 crore cash and about 30,000 litres of liquor have been seized at different places in 12 districts where elections are to be held on June 12.

AP possibly heading for President’s rule: TDP

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Saturday said that Andhra Pradesh was possibly heading for President’s rule after the by-elections to 18 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat on June 12.

King orders envoy back to Cairo

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah directed Ambassador Ahmad Al-Qattan to reopen the Kingdom’s embassy in Cairo and resume his duties on Sunday.

The king’s directive also included the reopening of the two consulates in Alexandria and Suez, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting an official statement yesterday.
