A drug, which is taken for attention hyperactivity disorder in kids, is showing promise to treat binge eating as well.

Binge Eating Disorder, which affects 1.5million people, is normally treated using psychological therapy.

However, till date there has been no licensed drug for the 30 per cent who fail to respond to counselling.

Last week trials showed a type of amphetamine called Vyvanse could help treating Binge Eating Disorder.

British scientists growing `human spare parts` in laboratory

British scientists claim to be for the first time growing human body parts at a laboratory at the University College London, which they say could soon make organ donation a thing of the past.

A team, led by Prof Alexander Seifalian of the varsity`s Department of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine, claims it`s actually focussing on growing replacement organs and body parts to order, using a patient`s own cells.

“This is a nose we`re growing for a patient next month. It`s a world first. Nobody has ever grown a nose before,” Prof Seifalian was quoted by the `Daily Mail` as saying.

Eye colour linked to severity of skin conditions

Eye colour could be an indicator of whether a person is at a high-risk for certain serious skin conditions, according to a new study.

A study, led by the University of Colorado School of Medicine, shows people with blue eyes are less likely to have vitiligo. It then follows, according to scientists, that people with brown eyes may be less likely to have melanoma.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease in which pigment loss results in irregular white patches of skin and hair. Melanoma is the most dangerous kind of skin cancer.

Curcumin `could be key to beating bowel cancer`

A chemical found in curry is to be tested for its ability to kill bowel cancer tumours in patients.

Curcumin, which is found in the spice turmeric, has been linked to a range of health benefits.

Studies have already shown that it can beat cancer cells grown in a laboratory and benefits have been suggested in stroke and dementia patients as well.

Now a trial at hospitals in Leicester will investigate giving curcumin alongside chemotherapy drugs.

About 40,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK each year.

Gujarat riots: Zakia Jafri gets SIT report

A metropolitan court here has handed over a copy of SIT report to Zakia Jafri, wife of Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the Gulbarg society massacre during the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Reacting to the development, Zakia’s son Tanveer Jafri said, “Getting the report is a big win for us.”
SIT has given its report with 22,000 annexure and 25 CDs to Jafri.

After handing over the SIT report to Zakia Jafri, the court has kept May 10 to discuss whether there is any deficiency in supplying copy of the report and relevant documents.

Zakia had approached court to get a copy of the report.

Pakistan has not taken necessary action against Hafiz Saeed, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday, referring to the Islamist suspected of masterminding an attack by Pakistan-based gunmen in Mumbai in 2008.

India has repeatedly called on Pakistan to bring Saeed to justice, an issue that has stood in the way of rebuilding relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours since the carnage in India’s financial capital, where gunmen killed 166 people.

India is furious Pakistan has not detained Saeed, despite handing over evidence against him.

HC nod to youth for sex change surgery

Observing that there is no law that can prohibit an adult from taking decisions pertaining to his life, the Bombay High Court today gave its nod to Guwahati student Bhidan Bharua to undergo sex change surgery.

The court said both, the Union and state government has no objection to the surgery. “There is no law which prohibits the same. The petitioner (Bhidan) is 21 years old and hence a major and can take decisions for himself,” a division bench of justices S J Vazifdar and A R Joshi observed.

Saudis report first underwater mosque in history

A group of private Saudi divers said they had built what they described as the first underwater mosque in history and that they performed prayers inside it just after it was completed, according to a newspaper.

The divers used massive plastic pipes filled with sand to construct the symbolic mosque under the water off the northwestern town of Tabuk close to the border with Jordan, Almadina Arabic language daily said.

“One of our colleagues came up with this idea last summer and we decided to carry it out,” diver Hamadan bin Salim Al Masoudi said.

Charred dead body creates sensation

(Siasat News): The people of the locality of Golnaka, Amberpet, could not believe their eyes when they spotted a partially charred dead body. This incident was immediately brought to the notice of Kachiguda police station.

The clues team along with the dog squad reached the spot. In the meantime, inspector Kachiguda Mr. B Koteshwar said that police suspect that the dead body of the youth aged between 25 to 30 years might have been killed somewhere else and his charred body was thrown here.

A survey has revealed that most people stick to toast and cereals for breakfast every day with sandwiches for lunch.

And they rely on a handful of favourites such as pasta, chips or pizza in the evenings.

Sixty-eight per cent of people questioned in the survey for PAGB, the trade association for over-the- counter medicines and food supplements, said they routinely buy the same things from the supermarket every week.
