Emraan gets his first ‘U’ certified film, thanks kids

Actor Emraan Hashmi, known for his serial kisser image, has revealed that he has signed his first ‘U’ certified film and gives credits to children for doing it.

“There is an untitled, Universal film, it would be my first ‘U’ certified film,” said Emraan.

“Actually, I was shooting in Jaipur three-four years back and some children told me that we watch your songs, but our parents don’t allow us to see your films. So I said, one day when I get a good script, I’ll definitely make a film for you all.”

Obese girls show greater poise when happy with their shape

Young women who may be obese but are happy with their size or shape show greater levels of self-possession, which offsets any ridicule they are likely to face.

The study led by Kerri Boutelle, associate professor of psychiatry and paediatrics, University of California-San Diego School of Medicine, surveyed a group of 103 overweight adolescents between 2004 and 2006.

Researchers assessed body satisfaction, weight-control behaviour, importance placed on thinness, self-esteem and symptoms of anxiety and depression, among other factors, the the Journal of Adolescent Health reports.

MPs raise issue of attacks on northeast students

Members of parliament from the northeast Monday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of attacks on students from the region and demanded an inquiry into the alleged murder of a Manipuri student in Bangalore.

Raising the issue during the zero hour, Congress MP from Inner Manipur Thockhom Meinya said there has been a spurt in incidents of attacks on northeast students.

Al Qaeda’s top leaders, including its new chief Ayman al-Zawahri, continue to “burrow” in Pakistan’s tribal areas, said a top US official as a Pakistani journalist warned that a dead Osama bin Laden is as dangerous as a living one.

Graft case: SC to decide on CBI probe against BSY

The Supreme Court is expected to take a decision on Monday whether to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into land denotification and graft charges against former Karnataka chief minister and BJP leader BS?Yeddyurappa.

The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee’s (CEC) looking into illegal mining in Karnataka had earlier found prima facie evidence that Yeddyurappa and his close relatives, including sons BY Vijendra and BY Raghavendra, had illegally denotified land and made “windfall profits”.

Five miscreants arrested with weapons in Jammu

Jammu Police have arrested five miscreants along with sharp-edged weapons from the heart of the city of this winter capital, police said. “The night patrolling party of Pacca Danga Police Station late last night incepted a group of six people in the city area,” police sources said here. They said the miscreants tried to escape on seeing the police but were apprehended after a hot chase. “Five of them were arrested but one managed to give a slip to the police,” they added.

Telangana issue disupts Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon on Monday over the vexed issue of carving out a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.

As soon as the house met at 11 am, the members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) came to the well of the house holding placards and shouting slogans, “We want Telangana” and “Jai Telangana”.

Despite the repeated requests of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to raise the issue during zero hour, two TRS members sat near her podium, shouting slogans, even as question hour proceeded.

Aarushi case: Nupur Talwar’s bail plea rejected

The Ghaziabad special CBI court on Monday rejected dentist Nupur Talwar’s bail plea and sent her to judicial custody in connection with the 2008 Aarushi Talwar-Hemraj double murder case.

She would be shifted to the Dasna Jail around 4pm this evening following the court’s order.

The special court passed its order after hearing the arguments of the CBI and Nupur Talwar’s lawyer regarding her bail. She can now file an appeal for bail in the sessions court tomorrow.

US,Taliban resume talks in Qatar over US-led Afghan war

The development comes as previous talks between the two sides have failed to make any headway, especially in a plan for a prisoner exchange.

A five-member Taliban delegation led by Tayyab Agha, the brother-in-law and spokesman for Afghan Taliban supreme commander Mullah Mohammad Omar, travelled to Qatar three weeks ago and held two rounds of talks with US officials, Taliban leaders said, quoted in news reports on Saturday.

Maulvi Shahabuddin Dilawar, a former Taliban envoy to Saudi Arabia, is reportedly another member of the delegation.

WHO calls for early treatment to stop HIV from spreading

Any HIV infected person should be given immediate treatment to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus to his/her partner, suggests World Health Organization.

The recommendation is part of a global crackdown on the spread of HIV.

Last year, a clinical trial found that giving antiretroviral drugs to an infected partner earlier reduces the risk of transmission by 96 per cent.

The new strategy is part of a drive to stop HIV spreading, even if it means treating people whose immune systems are not yet depleted to the levels that usually require therapy.

Bahraini demonstrators demand release of jailed political activists

They also gathered in front of a court in the capital, Manama, on Monday to protest the trial of political prisoners.

Top Bahraini opposition figures including leader of the al-Wefaq group Ali Salman also attended the demonstration in Manama.

Bahrainis also expressed solidarity with prominent jailed human rights activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been on hunger strike for more than two months.

His wife said on Sunday that Khawaja “was drugged and force-fed against his will” on April 23, but a spokesperson for the Bahrain Defense Forces Hospital rejected the issue.
