Gilani says he would appear before SC tomorrow

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said he would appear in Pakistan’s Supreme Court tomorrow for the sentencing in a contempt of court case that could decide his fate.

Addressing a meeting of his cabinet, Gilani said: “I will appear before the Supreme Court tomorrow.”

The government has always respected the judiciary and acted on its orders and will continue to do so, he said.

NATO misleads with ‘Afghan-led’ label: Report

A new report Wednesday by a Kabul-based think tank accuses international forces of misleading the public by calling military operations “Afghan-led” even in cases where NATO or U.S. forces are the only troops on the ground.

The charge cuts to the heart of a public perception battle being waged in Afghanistan, where international troops are eager to showcase successes by Afghan forces and to downplay the role played by international soldiers as NATO draws down forces and hands over security to Afghan control.

‘Pak reluctant in taking action against safe havens’

Pakistan is reluctant to take a strong action against the terrorist safe havens inside the country which is a major source of frustration, a top US General has said.

“The border with Pakistan is a source of frustration,” Marine Corps Maj Gen John Toolan, commander of the 2nd Marine Division and former commander of Regional Command-South West, said.

In a breakfast meeting yesterday, Toolan told Defence Writers’ Group that during the year of his stay in Afghanistan the Pakistani Army’s 12th Corps was positioned across the border.

MNREGA hit by scams, says Congress MP

Corruption has badly hit the ambitious task of providing jobs to rural poor through the MNREGA, a Congress member lamented in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Datta Meghe said MNREGA may have been started with lofty ideals seven years back but its result was “not that good” as corruption has virtually made the scheme hollow.

Noting that crores of people have been provided job under the scheme envisaging 100 days employment in a year, he alleged that the work performed is not of good quality even though huge sums have been spent.

Solar plane to make first cross-continent flight

The world’s largest solar-powered plane, Swiss-made Solar Impulse, will take its first-ever cross-continent flight in May or June.

The plane, co-piloted by Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, will attempt for the first time to fly more than 2,500 km, taking off in Payerne in western Switzerland, crossing the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean without using fuel, and landing in Morocco.

The exact date for taking off will be decided according to weather condition, said Andre Borschberg, co-founder and CEO of Solar Impulse that made the aircraft.

No change in visa policy for Indian students: US

The US has said that there is no change in its policy towards issuing visas to Indian students.

“I don’t think we’ve changed our policy with regard to the way we interview applicants,” state department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily news conference.

“I think what we are doing is making sure that the sponsoring organisations truly are what they say they are in the United States; that if they say that they are bringing students over to educate them, that they intend to educate them, not put them to work, et cetera,” she said.

750gms Boneless mutton
½ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Kalonji (onion seeds)
5 Cloves
1 tsp saunf (fennel seeds)
1 tsp Red chili powder
2 tbsp Ginger
2 tbsp Garlic
½ cup Coriander (chopped)
8 Whole Red Chillies
1/2 cup
7 tbsp Mustard Oil
Salt (according to taste)

Procedure:

Chop onions and tomatoes.

Roast the whole spices separately. Grind them altogether.

5 apricots
Dry Fruits
Ghee, as required

Procedure:

Fry the dry fruits & apricots in 2½ tbsp ghee, with a little salt (to taste).

The preliminary 16-person study holds promise for supporting digestive health.

The research is the first study of pistachios and almonds and their modulating role on the gut microbiota composition.

“Gut microbiota, or the microbial environment in the gastrointestinal tract, provides important functions to the human host,” said Volker Mai, PhD, lead study author and assistant professor at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
