Recipe: Delicious Spanish Rice

Try this savoury delicious recipe of Spanish rice in lunch.

Ingredients

1 cup rice
1 lb ground meat
3 tbsp vegetable oil
2 1/2 cup stewed tomatoes
1 tsp salt
2 tsp chili powder
1/2 ea onion chopped
1/2 ea green bell pepper chopped
1 clove garlic minced

Procedure

Wash rice, drain, and allow to dry thoroughly.
Heat oil in heavy skillet; add rice. Cook, stirring constantly, until lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
Add onions, garlic, green peppers and meat. Stir often to break up and brown meat; cook until onion is limp and lightly browned.

`Yoga can cure every disease, but don`t universalise`

Yoga therapy can cure every disease and disorder, even cancer, says a Delhi-based yoga therapist but warns against the mass teaching of yoga – including popular pranayams like kapalbhati and anulom vilom – saying they “can cause complications”.

“Yoga cannot be universalised…like prescribing a paracetamol tablet,” says Subhash Sharma, a yoga therapist who spent 19 years in a gurukul in Rajasthan and is also a post-graduate from the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

It’s official: Fast food is linked to depression

Eating commercial baked goods like fairy cakes, croissants, doughnuts, and fast food like hamburgers, hotdogs and pizza is linked to depression, a new study has revealed.

According to the recent study headed by scientists from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada, the results reveal that consumers of fast food, compared to those who eat little or none, are 51 percent more likely to develop depression.

Oxygen in tumours may foretell prostate cancer relapse

Low oxygen levels in tumours can predict prostate cancer recurrence in men with intermediate-risk disease even before they undergo radiation therapy, a new study has revealed.

“We’ve not only shown that men do worse if they have low oxygen levels (hypoxia) in their prostate cancer, but that they also do worse over a shorter period of time,” said Dr. Michael Milosevic, radiation oncologist in the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Cancer Program, UHN.

“These patients seem to develop cancer recurrence within only a few years of completing treatment.”

The first day of the new financial year has seen a ban on the sale of tobacco-mixed gutka in Madhya Pradesh.

Health Minister Narottam Mishra had said in the assembly some days ago that the licenses of seven gutka companies in the state have been cancelled.

And to control the increasing number of mouth cancer patients, the state government has decided to ban tobacco-mixed gutka pouches, he had announced.

A penalty of up to Rs.25,000 would be imposed on anyone selling tobacco-mixed gutka. However, there would be no ban on the sale of plain gutka.

Bangladesh has arrested two school teachers over a drama that contained blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him).

Rape cases: NCW members to visit Kolkata today

Amid reports of a large number of rape cases across West Bengal, a delegation of National Commission for Women (NCW) is scheduled to visit Kolkata on Monday to meet government officials.

NCW member secretary Anita Agnihotri will lead the delegation.

“She will meet state government officials April 3,” said Sunanda Mukherjee, chairperson, West Bengal Commission for Women.

Mukherjee, however, denied any knowledge of the NCW delegation meeting the rape victims.

“I really don’t know whether they (NCW) will meet the rape victims or not,” she said.

3 devotees killed in clash, fervour marks Ram Navmi

Ram Navmi celebrations turned bloody in Etawah in Uttar Pradesh leaving three worshippers dead and 35 injured as religious fervour and gaiety marked the Lord Rama’s birthday across the country today. Two groups of devotees clashed following a dispute over offering prayers at the ancient Brahmani temple in Balrai area in Etawah, police said. The violence, in which the two sides also traded fire, left three dead and 35, including some policemen, injured, they said. Police also opened fire to bring the situation under control.
