Pak court sentences Osama’s wives, daughters to 45 days in prison

A Pakistani court on Monday sentenced Osama bin Laden’s three widows and two of his daughters to 45 days detention for illegal residency and ordered their deportation as soon as possible.

Their lawyer Muhammad Aamir said the period of detention began on March 3, when they were formally arrested on charges of illegal entry and residency in Pakistan and that they would continue to be held at their villa in Islamabad.

Japan experts warn of future risk of giant tsunami

Revised estimates of the potential impact from an earthquake off Japan’s southern coast show much of the country’s Pacific shore could be inundated by a tsunami more than 34 meters (112 feet) high.

A government-commissioned panel of experts says a tsunami unleashed by a magnitude-9.0 earthquake in the Nankai trough, which runs east of Japan’s main island of Honshu to the southern island of Kyushu, could top 34 meters.

An earlier forecast in 2003 put the potential maximum height of such a tsunami at less than 20 meters (66 feet).

Pakistan working to improve India ties: Gilani

Pakistan is working to improve its international ties, including those with India, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said addressing the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in China, it was reported here Monday.

The three-day forum is being held in Boao, a scenic town in China’s Hainan province.

Besides Gilani, the participants include Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Masimov, Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Javad Mohammadizadeh, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

3 professors suspended, college fined Rs 1 lakh

Following the leak of a TYBCom paper, a three-member committee was set up and their findings were released yesterday. Three professors have been suspended and the college has been fined Rs 1 lakh following the probe.

On March 27, when students came to appear for their Business Economics examination at BNN College, they were instead given the Marketing and Human Resource Management (MHRM) question paper for an examination scheduled for the following day (March 28).

Around 510 students at BNN College were given out the papers accidentally.

Illegal use of Old Songs, Saif pays hefty price

In Saif Ali Khan’s recently released spy-thriller Agent Vinod, several old songs apparently were used without due permission from the producers or the labels that own the rights to the soundtracks.

Bank asked to fork out ` 10,000 for widow

HOLDING the Indian Overseas Bank ( IOB) guilty of not following the Reserve Bank of India ( RBI) norms for payment of money to the legal heirs of an account holder after his death, a Delhi district consumer forum has asked the bank to pay ` 10,000 as damages to the widow of one of its customers.

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum ( Central) held the bank guilty of deficient service for not paying the money to the widow, Seema Thakur, of Bansi Lal Thakur, who had his account with the bank.

Petrol prices in Goa plunge, cheapest in the country at Rs. 54.96/litre

Petrol prices in Goa have dropped down to Rs.54.96 since Monday, the cheapest in the country, an official said.

Long queues were witnessed at most petrol pumps with bikers and car owners opting to tank up, instead of regulating their fill of fuel.

“They are saying that the prices of petrol are again going to be increased by the central government,” said Narayan Gaonkar, who was queued up at a Bhartiya Petroleum petrol pump in Porvorim.

The slashing of rates by Rs.11 was a promise given by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in its election manifesto.

Maruti Suzuki sales up 3% in March; fall 11% in 2011-12

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Monday reported highest ever monthly sales in March at 1,25,952 units, 3.28 percent jump from 1,21,952 units in the same month last year.

For the entire 2011-12 financial year however, the company’s sales declined by 10.80 percent to 11,33,695 units from 12,71,005 units in 2010-11, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

In March 2012, the Delhi-based firm reported highest ever domestic sales at 1,12,724 units, an increase of 2.08 percent over 1,10,424 units in March 2011, it added.

Illicit liquor suppliers arrested

(Siasat News): Task Force has arrested three persons from Dhoolpet in connection with supplying of illicit liquor and seized liquor packets from their possession.

It is said that Babloo Singh, 35, Ramesh Singh, 26 and Raju, 25 hail from Dhoolpet and used to supply the illicit cheap liquor to various places of the city.

Yesterday night, they were supplying a load to Sangareni colony of Saeedabad where they were arrested by Task force and later handed over to Saeedabad police.

Sangareddy peaceful – Curfew relaxed

After the one-side communal riots in Sangareddy, peace prevails. Curfew was relaxed between 8 am and 6 pm. On the whole, the situation was peaceful. Moderate quake hits Japan

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit sea off Japan’s Fukushima prefecture on the Honshu island on Sunday, said Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA).

The epicentre of the temblor, which struck at 11.04 pm (local time), was initially determined at 37.1 degrees north latitude, 141.3 degrees east longitude with a depth of 50 km, Xinhua reported.

Though tremors were felt in Tokyo, no alert for tsunami was issued.
