Housing beneficiaries will get online payment: Minister

Housing Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday informed that the State Government has decided to weed out intermediaries to make payments to the beneficiaries of housing schemes.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday at the State Secretariat, the minister requested all the eligible beneficiaries to open bank accounts so that the government could directly transfer funds to them online. He said that this move would weed out the intermediaries and corruption from the housing departments.

84 riots: 2-minute silence everyday in court

In an unusual decision, a Delhi court hearing a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case involving senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar today said a two-minute silence will be observed before commencement of everyday’s proceedings in memory of the innocent people killed in the carnage.

The court also said “hundreds of murders” had taken place during the riots which were “never investigated or tried”. “Hundreds of murders that took place during the riots were never investigated or tried.

Hyderabad airport gets greenhouse certification

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here has received ISO 14064 certification, becoming the second airport in India and the third in Asia to complete verification of greenhouse gas emissions.

The airport successfully accredited its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory including greenhouse gas emissions and removals for reporting years 2009 to 2011, according to the ISO 14064-1:2006 specification.

Bureau Veritas conducted independent audit and issued the verification statement, said a release from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), which operates the airport.

Bhanwari Devi trial to begin from April 20

The trial of Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case would begin in a local here from April 20. The ST/SC court gave this date after pleas from both the sides. All the 13 accused (except Pukhraj, Dinesh, Reshmaram and absconding Indira) were produced in the court today after the committal of the case from the CBI court.
After the court expressed its wish to start the trial, the counsels of both the sides requested the court to defer the trial till April 20.

Security for CBI official probing Jagan case

Andhra Pradesh has provided ‘Y’ category security to CBI Joint Director VV Laxminarayana, who is heading investigations into high profile cases, including an illegal assets case against YSR Congress party leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy and the Sohrabuddin encounter case, a police source said Monday.

The top official would now be protected by two armed guards round the clock. He would also be provided a bullet proof vehicle.

Role of police under scanner in Medak violence

Failure of the police to act swiftly and also in an unbiased manner led to escalation of violence in a clash between two communities four days ago in Sanga Reddy, headquarters of Medak district, about 60 kms from here.

Preliminary inquiry by government established that the local police “grossly” failed in containing the arson, as a result of which tension escalated leading to imposition of curfew in the town.

CBI files memo in Jagan’s assets case

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed a memo in the CBI Special Court, Nampally, seeking permission to continue its probe in the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Admitting the CBI’s memo, the court adjourned further hearing to April 9. The CBI has sought court’s permission to continue its investigation as it had wider ramifications. Earlier, the CBI filed its chargesheet against 13 accused including Jagan on Saturday in connection with the illegal assets case.

Kamalapuram MLA Veerasiva Reddy on Monday fired a fresh salvo against YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Vijay Sai’s bail petition hearing adjourned to April 4

The Special Court for CBI on Monday adjourned the hearing to April 4 on bail petition of Jagathi Publications vice-chairman V Vijay Sai Reddy, the accused in the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case.

In the bail petition, Vijay Sai Reddy’s counsel observed that his client was innocent and was in no way connected to the case. He said that the CBI has leveled false charges against his client based on the false claims of former minister Dr P Shankar Rao.

SC rejects Srilakshmi’s bail petition

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the bail petition of suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, the accused in illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Company owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.

The apex court while rejecting bail petition directed her to appeal in the CBI Special Court.

The court observed that it could not take any decision at this stage as the CBI has filed chargesheet against Srilakshmi in the case. The apex court also directed the CBI Special Court to take into consideration the High Court orders before sanctioning bail to Srilakshmi.

Cop found dead in car at Noida

A policeman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Noida, adjoining New Delhi.

According to police, the deceased was found dead in a Honda city car in Surajpur Sunday night.

The 48-year-old Bhanwar Singh was a habitual drinker. Police are probing the circumstances under which he died.

The air-conditioner of the car, which belonged to the policeman, was on when the body was spotted by passersby.

India to send to Pakistan 26/11 files: Report

India will soon send to Pakistan all documents related to 26/11 terror attacks case that were authenticated by four key witnesses during the visit of a Pakistani Judicial Commission last month.

The nearly 700-page bulky file contain documents like the confessional statement of the lone surviving Pakistani perpetrator Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, post mortem reports of slain terrorists and 26/11 victims prepared by two doctors and the case diary of Mumbai attack case.

Government thinking of doing away with Haj subsidy: SM Krishna

External affairs minister S M Krishna on Monday said the government is having “second thoughts” on continuing the Haj subsidy as a number of Muslim organisations have demanded its abolition.

A large number of Muslim organisations have approached the Centre, seeking abolition of the subsidy concept for Haj, he told reporters here when asked if there are plans to provide similar package for Christian pilgrims going to the Holy Land.
