Vijay Mallya promises salaries, employees set deadline

Facing heat from restive employees, Kingfisher airlines boss Vijay Mallya promised to clear the outstanding salaries from Wednesday after tax authorities unfroze bank accounts but the staff today demanded part payment of dues tomorrow itself setting a 8 PM deadline.

Mallya’s promise failed to cut ice with several pilots and staff of the cash-strapped carrier failing to report for duty today to protest delays in salaries leading to cancellation of at least ten flights from Delhi and Mumbai.

2nd black teen shot by US police

The killing of another African-American teenager by police has shaken the US, as Americans were already angered over the earlier controversial murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by a volunteer watch guard.

The 19-year-old college student, Kendrec McDade, was shot and killed by two Pasadena police officers on March 24.

The incident occurred when a Pasadena resident, Oscar Carrillo, called the police to report that two armed men had robbed him of his computer and backpack and that one of them had pointed a gun at him.

Petrol in Goa at Rs 54 per litre

The cost of petrol in Goa was Rs 54 per litre from today as the state government has reduced VAT from 20 per cent to 1 per cent. The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar fulfilled one of the most popular pre-election promises in its party manifesto to reduce VAT on fuel in the state from April if his party came to power. From Midnight, the VAT on the fuel has been reduced, bringing huge relief to two, three, four wheeler vehicle owners. The Price of petrol has dropped to Rs 54 from Rs 65. HC allows KKR to use microphones at Eden

Calcutta High Court today granted permission to use microphones during IPL matches at the Eden Gardens, the home ground of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). A Bench comprising Justice Pratap Roy and Justice Dipankar Dutta uissued the ruling on a petition filed by KKR. The Bench issuing the order, directed the state government to file an affidavit in six weeks explaining why the state government had impose a ban on using microphone during matches at the Eden Gardens. The court, however, held that the sound of microphone must be within 90 decibel.

Swine flu cases causing scare in Vizag

Andhra Pradesh Ports and Infrastructure Minister G. Srinivasa Rao today directred the medical and health officials to take steps to prevent the spread of swine flu in the Port City. Mr Srinivasa Rao, who had visited a Swine flu patient who was being treated in a Corporate hospital here, a couple of days ago, instructed the District Health Officer, Dr G Savitri to ensure that drugs were available in all the hospitals for treating swine flu cases and educate the people on the precautions to protect themselves.

Blind can gain eyesight with help of stem cells

Those who have turned blind due to burn injuries or acid can now regain their sight with the help of stem cells. This was stated by Dr Virender Singh Sangwan, Associate Director and Chairman of Cornea Service at L V Prasad Eye Institute while speaking on the issue of transplant of stem cells at a function organised at Pt B D S University of Health Sciences today. Dr Virender Sangwan said stem cells could enable the blind to gain sight irrespective of the cause of their blindness. Vice-Chancellor S S Sangwan also spoke on the occasion.

CM fulfills promise of water augmentation scheme in AP town

MPs urge T youth not to resort to suicides

Two MPs Nandi Yellaiah and Suresh Shetkar have appealed to the Telangana youth and students not to commit suicides demanding separate Telangana State.

Speaking to the media at the CLP office here on Monday, the MPs said that the Congress party high command was seriously considering creation of separate Telangana State. Chakrapani examining disqualification petition

The Legislative Council Chairman Dr A. Chakrapani has said that he was examining the disqualification petitions against Congress MLCs.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Chakrapani said that the members concerned have asked for two weeks to submit their explanations as at that time the Council was going on. Botcha regrets being in politics

PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana has said that the way the ACB has acted in the liquor syndicates affair with regard to his Vizianagaram district has caused him mental agony. He said he was beginning to regret being in politics.

CBI probe is much ado about nothing: Raghavulu

CPI(M) State secretary B V Raghavulu has said that the CBI investigation is like the proverbial ‘much ado about nothing’.

Talking to the media here on Monday, he said that leaving high officials and ministers, who could be responsible for irregularities, the names of private companies were mentioned in the CBI charge-sheet. DL seeks debate in Assembly on land allotments since 1995

Health Minister Dr D L Ravindra Reddy has demanded that the State government allow a discussion in the Legislative Assembly on land allotments since 1995. He also demanded that the State government order a comprehensive inquiry into the liquor shops and ration cards in Chittoor and Kadapa districts.

2,677 Posts of panchayat secretaries to be filled soon

The State government has accorded permission for filling of vacancies of panchayat secretaries (Grade IV) under Direct Recruitment on regular basis.

According to a GO issued on Monday in this regard, the State government has accorded permission to all the district Collectors in the State for filling of 2,677 posts of panchayat secretaries Grade-IV by direct recruitment through District Selection Committee duly following the selection process prescribed in the existing service rules.
