Brazil, India top business confidence index: Report

Amid Eurozone crisis and uncertain economic climate, emerging economies of Brazil and India have topped the business confidence index, confirming their role as key drivers of the global economy, says a Regus report.

The global Business Confidence Index is based on a survey of views on revenue, profit trends and expected growth.

According to the latest bi-annual Regus Business Confidence Index (BCI) report which tracks the opinions of over 16,000 business managers and owners from 86 countries, business confidence in Brazil has reached 148 points in March followed by India 143 points.

Mumbai, April 03: Having “fed the 5,000″ and fulfilled his duty of leading the India hockey team to Olympic qualification, Australian coach Michael Nobbs has set the target of a top-six finish in London.

The former hockey powerhouse won the last of their eight gold medals in 1980 but their gradual decline reached its lowest ebb in 2008 when the team failed to qualify for the Beijing, the first time India missed a Games in 80 years.

So it was a huge relief for the nation when the team won a qualifying tournament in Delhi in February to seal a London berth.

Access Facebook in 8 Indian languages from mobile phones

Social networking website Facebook today announced a facility for its users to access the site in eight Indian languages from mobile phones.

This will be rolled out in phases over the next few weeks, it said.

“With over 50 million people in India on Facebook, we want to make sure that everyone has a great Facebook mobile experience regardless of the device that they choose to use,” Facebook’s Country Growth Manager Kevin D’Souza said in a statement.

iPads could replace books in China school

Students in a Chinese school may soon carry iPads instead of books to their classrooms as the management is planning to allow the use of the gadget.

The Jinling High School in Nanjing city has already allowed three students to bring iPads to their classrooms on a trial basis once their new term begins in September.

The policy has been discussed extensively and will possibly be extended to all students, the management said.

The iPads can set students free from the burden of carrying school bags, said Xin Qihua, vice director of the school’s international department.

INSAT-2E completes 13 years of successful operation

After 13 years of operation, INSAT-2E, the last of the five satellites in the INSAT-2 series, has successfully completed its mission life.

INSAT-2E was built with a planned mission life of 12 years and continued to function beyond that, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said in a statement here today.

Launched on April 3, 1999 by the European Ariane-5 launcher, INSAT-2E was positioned at 830 East longitude in the geostationary orbit.

US is basing its decisions on wrong info from India:Saeed

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) founder and funder of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed today said the bounty the US had offered for his arrest was based on limited knowledge and wrong information being provided by India.

“I believe either the US has very little knowledge and is basing its decisions on wrong information being provided by India or they are just frustrated,” Saeed told Al Jazeera.

Saeed said the US move came after his group organised protests against Pakistan allowing NATO supplies to pass through its territory for troops in Afghanistan.

Yeddyurappa rakes up Karnataka leadership issue again

Continuing to mount pressure on the central leadership, BJP Karnataka strongman BS Yeddyurappa on Tuesday said he would wait for a “few more days” on the party’s promise to reinstate him as chief minister.

BMI `may be understating obesity epidemic`

Body-mass index BMI, the 200-year-old formula widely used by medical experts, health insurers and the fitness industry, may be categorising almost half of women and just over 20 per cent of men as healthy when their body-fat composition suggests they are obese, a US new study has found.

The study uses a patient’s ratio of fat to lean muscle mass as the “gold standard” for detecting obesity and suggests that it could be a better bellwether of an individual’s risk for health problems.

• Soak aval along with salt in 1/4 cup of water for 10 minutes.
• Now heat coconut oil in a pan on low flame.

The action, to be conducted by Mullock’s, is expected to fetch nearly 100,000 pounds. The guide price for the items set by the auctioneer 10,000 pounds to 15,000 pounds is the highest for three items in the collection: the pair of glasses, ‘charkha’ (spinning wheel) and a casket containing the soil and blades of grass from the spot where Gandhi was killed in New Delhi.

The soil and blades of grass were collected by one P P Nambiar, who describes the samples in a provenance, and are placed in a small wooden casket containing a small glass topped box.
