CPI protests against power tariff hike

Demanding the roll back of the power tariff hike, CPI of A.P. organized ‘Raasta Roko. Former MP of Rajya Sabha, Mr. Syed Aziz Pasha led the programme. As a mark of protest, the effigy of CM Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was burnt. The traffic was disrupted for hours.

Talking to media persons, Mr. Aziz Pasha said that with the enhancement of power rates, poor men are suffering. He reminded that in the past TDP had to lose power when power rates were increased. If Congress Govt. does not roll back the power rates hike, it has to lose power.

HC Judgement applauded by Ved Kumar

Mr. Ved Kumar, Chairman, Telangana Resource Centre stated that the LANCO Hills Wakf property belongs to the Muslims and it is an asset of Telangana region. He said that Andhra capitalists are responsible for the backwardness of the Muslims of Telangana.

He told that many capitalists of Seema Andhra region are in possession of various Wakf Properties. He condemned the efforts of L. Rajagopal to prove that this is not a Wakf Property. The court judgement proved that the valuable property acquired by Rajagopal is illegal and all the constructions made on it are illegitimate.

Minority Affairs Ministry failure to utilize funds

Aligarh-based Forum for Muslim Studies & Analysis (FMSA) has expressed grave concern and anguish over failure of the Minority Affairs Ministry to utilize funds worth over Rs.587 crore and subsequently returning it back.

FMSA held a review meeting on the issue. Prof. Razaullah Khan, President of Millat Beadri, presided over the meeting. He pointed out that the parliamentary standing committee on social justice and empowerment has pulled up the ministry for the lethargy. Prof. Khan said, “The ministry should take corrective steps in future.”

Minorities Minister welcomes High Court judgement

(Siasat News) Mr. Mohammed Ahmedullah, Minister for Minorities Welfare, Govt. of A.P. welcomed the judgement of the Division bench of A.P. High Court in the Dargah Hzt. Hussain Shah Vali Rh., Wakf property case of Manikonda Jagir.

He assured that the Dept. of Minorities Welfare will take necessary steps for the protection of Wakf properties in the entire state.

He informed that instructions have already been issued to all the concerned parties to implement the orders of Wakf tribunal.

Cops bust hookah bar; TV serial bahu arrested

Dark affairs of the city of Mumbai once again raised its ugly head yesterday night when in a raid at a hookah lounge, cops arrested 21 party revelers who were having a blast.

The arrest included a TV actress who reportedly hurled abuses at the media trying to capture her image.

This is not the first time that someone from the showbiz fraternity has been arrested in such a raid. Recently, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi was rounded up by the cops along with some hookah smokers at a another lounge on March 29, 2012.

Woman abducted and robbed of jewellery worth Dh9,000 in Sharjah

KAF pays part of pending salary to junior staff

After a long wait of four months, a section of employees of crisis-ridden Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) on Wednesday received part of their pending salaries.

“Some of the junior staff have finally been paid (their dues). But they have received only one month basic salary,” an airline staffer said.

The payment comes following KFA Chairman Vijay Mallya’s assurance to the employees on Monday that their dues would be paid in a staggered manner by 10 April.

JAC gives ultimatum to Congress on Telangana

The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday threatened to intensify the separate statehood agitation once again if the ruling Congress fails to make its stand clear on the issue before the Parliament resumes for the second part of the Budget session on April 24.

Congress should clear its stand on Telangana issue as it had promised to deliver the separate state in the 2004 and 2009 elections, JAC convener M Kodandaram told reporters in Hyderabad.

‘Sex CD’ Accused Swami Nityanand Now Charged With Sodomy

Swami Nityanand, who was arrested in a ‘sex CD’ scandal in March 2010 and is presently out on bail, has been charged with forced unnatural sex with a foreigner who is an IIT graduate of Indian origin.

A chargesheet has been filed against Nityanand in Bangalore’s Ramnagaram court, under section 377, on March 21.

The IIT graduate has alleged that Swami Nityanand sexually exploited him a number of times both in India and America.

Indian Army Chief meets Nepal President

Army Chief Gen V.K. Singh on Thursday met Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav and wished peace and prosperity for his country.

Gen. Singh, who is in Nepal to attend the three-day Regional Seminar on Natural Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, called on President Yadav at the Rastrapati Bhawan in the capital.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad was also present at the meeting.

Gen. Singh during the brief meeting wished “for peace and prosperity of Nepal.”

On the occasion, President Yadav shed light on the age-old friendly ties between Nepal and India.

Bhatt once again demands examination of Modi by riots panel

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt today demanded that Nanavati Commission, which is probing the 2002 Gujarat riots, summon the Chief Minister Narendra Modi on the basis of allegations made by the late Amarsinh Chaudhary, a former Gujarat Chief Minister. Bhatt sent a letter to the Commission today, along with the copy of Chaudhary’s affidavit. The letter said, “The affidavit clearly delineates the deliberate inaction on the part of Chief Minister Narendra Modi during the Gujarat Carnage of 2002 in general and the Gulburg Society massacre in particular.

Pranab to meet jewellers on April 6

With the indefinite strike by jewellers entering the eighth day on Wednesday, a Kolkata-based organisation said that the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has been invited by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to discus their demands.

Mr. Mukherjee has invited the jewellers to meet him in Delhi on April 6, 2012 to discuss their demands, Ashok Begani, president, Calcutta Gem and Jewellers’ Welfare Association, told PTI in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Members of the association are on an indefinite strike in protest against increase in import duty and excise duty on gold.
