Sohrabuddin encounter: SC grants bail to Rathod

The Supreme Court on Friday granted regular bail to suspended police inspector V A Rathod in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Rathod is the first accused policeman to get bail in the case after the Central Bureau of Investigation took over the probe under the directions of the apex court.

Rathod’s lawyer Punit Juneja said a division bench of SC comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Desai granted bail to his client since the CBI, which proposed to discharge him from the case, had no objection.

Seerath exhibition in Salar Jung Museum

Intermediate exams held peacefully in A.P.

(Siasat News) Intermediate examination 2012 in A.P. was started in a peaceful manner yesterday the first paper of Intermediate examination consisted of Language paper i.e., Urdu, Hindi, Telugu, Sanskrit and Arabic as the first language. For Intermediate (general) 8,89,876 and for Intermediate (Vocational) 89,431 candidates are appearing. In all. 9,29,307 candidates had registered their names but 70,284 candidates appeared yesterday and 7.17% of the candidates remained absent.

Andhra speaker disqualifies 16 Jagan loyalists

Ending the long suspense, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly speaker on Friday disqualified 16 rebel lawmakers belonging to the ruling Congress party who were loyal to YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

The speaker has also accepted the resignation of another Jagan loyalist Shoba Nagi Reddy of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP).

A statement about the disqualification was released from the office of Speaker Nandendla Manohar on Friday night.

73 killed in violence in Pakistan

At least 73 people, mostly militants, were killed today in separate incidents of violence, including a suicide attack outside a mosque and a fierce clash between security forces and terrorists, in the restive tribal belt of northwest Pakistan.

A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a mosque in the volatile Khyber tribal region this afternoon, killing 23 militants of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam group and injuring over 20 others, officials of the local political administration told the media.

Falak taken out from ICU; may be discharged soon

Two-year-old girl child Falak, who was brought to hospital in a battered state two months back, was on Friday shifted from an ICU to the children’s ward after doctors at AIIMS found her medical condition stable.

Doctors at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, attending on her since the past 45 days, also said Falak will be discharged soon if she continues to show improvement in her medical condition.

US Mosques Increase in Number Despite Post-9/11 Suspicions

A new survey finds that the number of U.S. mosques has grown dramatically in the decade since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, despite protests against their construction and allegations they have promoted radicalism.

The survey is sponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America and other groups in conjunction with the Hartford Institute for Religion Research, which tracks church membership and other aspects of religious life in the United States.

Shehla Masood: CBI arrests another woman

Saba Farooqui, a close friend of architect Zahida Parvez, was on Friday arrested in connection with the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood by the CBI which claimed to have got “clinching evidence” of Parvez’s alleged involvement through call details and her seized diary.

The agency believes that the murder was purportedly triggered by Parvez’s obsession with a BJP MLA who was also close to Masood.

Lawyers’ Assault on Mediapersons thirty Policemen Injured

A group of lawyers here on Friday took law into their hands and thrashed media persons, stoned their vehicles, police and college students at a court complex injuring 30 policemen and 10 others from the media.

Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda condemned the violence and announced a judicial probe into the incident.

Troubled erupted when a large number of journalists had gone to the complex to cover the court appearance of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy in an illegal mining case.

Rhino poaching continues unabated in South Africa

Despite an intensified crackdown, rhino poaching continued unabated in South Africa, authorities said Friday.

In the latest attack, a rhino was killed and two others were critically injured after poachers struck in the Eastern Cape Friday, according to the Hawks, a special anti-crime task force.

“Rangers at the Kariega Game Farm were patrolling this (Friday) morning when they found three dehorned rhinos,” said Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela.

“The police have cordoned off the scene and are investigating,” he said.
