Recipe: American Potato Salad

American Potato Salad is buttery with a slight tang.

Ingredients

3 pounds small white potatoes (use waxy or red potatoes)
Salt and ground pepper
5 large hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 medium red onion, chopped finely
2 Tbsp chopped sweet basil leaves
1 cup corn
½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (2-3 lemons)
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp pasta seasoning

Procedure

Recipe: Shortcrust Pastry

Shortcrust pastry is buttery, crumbly and a tasty treat.

Ingredients

150g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened

100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar

1 tsp grated lemon rind

120 g (1 cup) plain flour, plus extra for dusting

120 g (3/4 cup) potato flour

Procedure

Cream together butter, sugar, and lemon rind in a bowl.

Sift together the plain and potato flours into a mound.

Make a well in the center of the mound and add the creamed mixture.

Knead lightly until the dough is consistent.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour before use.

Delhi Police warns against drunk driving on Holi

With more than 400 drunk drivers prosecuted in the last three days, the Delhi Police on Sunday warned Delhiites against driving under the influence of alcohol to ensure a safe Holi.

According to a message posted by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg on Facebook, which has over 100,000 followers, Garg said that the stringent drive will continue after Holi too.

“439 drunk drivers in 3 days: City had 146 drunk drivers on Saturday. You check them any day and they are there to be caught, to go to jail and of course get injured and may be dead,” Garg posted.

Dubai prosecutor seeks death for Pakistani woman who fatally stabbed man

A Pakistani woman will stand trial in Dubai for killing a man with the help of a friend and the prosecutor is demanding death punishment on premeditated murder, a newspaper said on Monday.

The 30-year-old woman confessed to murdering the man and said she had done this because he had insisted on having an affair with her. Police found out later the victim had reported the woman for giving him a dud cheque although she denied it.

Obama to meet Netanyahu

61 dead in al-Qaida attack

Al-Qaida militants have overrun an army base in southern Yemen, capturing heavy weapons and turning them on soldiers in intense clashes that left 61 dead, a military official says.

The Sunday battle near the town of Zinjibar in the southern province of Abyan killed 36 government troops and 25 of the militants, he said. A medical official confirmed the death toll. Scores were wounded from both sides, they said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to talk to the media.

3yr old girl punished for wetting bed, dies

In a horrific incident in Alaska, a little girl died of hypothermia after her mother and boyfriend locked her in a freezing bedroom for wetting the bed.

Two sisters, aged 1 and 3, suffered hypothermia, when they were locked inside the room and a window was left open to air the room out, while temperatures outside were minus 30 degrees in America’s nothernmost community, reports Daily Mail.

6 Indians burnt alive in Oman accident

In a fatal traffic accident in Oman six Indians were burnt alive and two nationals seriously injured on Sunday evening.

According to a ‘Times of India’ report, the deceased were travelling towards their worksite, when their twin-cabin pick up collided with another vehicle and caught fire. Four of them died on the spot while two succumbed to burns at hospital, the paper added.

The deceased who worked for a construction company hail from the South Indian state of Kerala. The company has initiated procedures tohave the bodies repartriated.

‘Putin returns as Russian President’

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his supporters are celebrating victory in Russian elections, that will give him a third presidential term after spending the last four years as the country’s PM.

With nearly all the ballots counted, he secured nearly 64% of the vote, election officials say.

Mr Putin told supporters in Moscow he had won in an open and honest battle.

But opposition groups claim widespread fraud, and plan a protest rally in Moscow later on Monday.
