The Obama Administration claimed bin Laden was put in a bag and hurled into the sea, which it insisted was “in keeping with Islamic practices,” whereas some were calling for his body to be kept around so it could be overtly desecrated.

Togadia booked for “hurting sentiments” of a community in JK

Police today registered a case against VHP General Secretary Parveen Togadia for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a community at a public rally in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

An FIR has been lodged against Togadia under section 153-A of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) for hurting the sentiments of a community in Rajouri town yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Vijay Singh Sambyal told PTI.

Togadia had made a statement during public rally in Rajouri yesterday.

Gujarat govt contemplating defence manufacturing policy: Modi

‘Enemy lacks courage to take on Iran Army’

A senior Iranian commander says the prowess of the Army has stripped the enemy of the courage to attempt an act of aggression against Iran.

“The Iranian Armed Forces are … fully prepared to counter any [act] of aggression,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan said Monday.

Pourdastan said the Ground Forces had taken “major steps” in their martial preparedness, adding that they also monitor every move by extra-regional forces operating close to Iran’s borders.

US plans to legally justify targeted killings of Americans

The Obama administration is set to offer legal backing for the targeted killing of American citizens suspected of involvement in terrorist activities against the United States overseas.

The underpinning legal principles of the issue will be discussed by US Attorney General Eric Holder at Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago on Monday afternoon.

The initiative came after the US administration was pressured by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to provide justifications that killing Americans suspected of terrorist acts is a legitimate act.

US-Israel ties unbreakable: Obama

US President Barack Obama has reiterated his promise of support of Israel on security issues, insisting that the United States’ ties with Israel are unbreakable.

Krishna and Godavari Deltas modernisation to be over in three years

Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudharshan Reddy on Monday informed the State Legislative Assembly that under the modernisation of Krishna and Godavari Deltas would be completed in the next three years.

The minister said that under the modernisation of Krishna dn Godavari Deltas, it has been proposed to take up modernisation of canals and drains by bringing them to original standards, dredging operations and maintenance works of Sir Arthur Cotton and Prakasham Barrages.

Bodies not missing from Osmania mortuary

Medical Education, Health and Family Welfare Minister Kondru Murali Mohan on Monday denied reports that several unidentified bodies were missing from the mortuary of Osmania General Hospital.

The minister made this statement in his written answer to a question raised by MLAs D Sudheer Reddy and Kuna Srisailam Goud. The minister also denied that authorities of mortuary and others were selling these unidentified bodies to various private medical colleges. (INN)

The State Government has started taking measures to grow crops in barren lands.

In a written answer to a question raised by MLA J Ramesh, Rural Development Minister D Manikya Varaprasad Rao informed the House on Monday that under Mahatra Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes works were being taken up for development of fallow lands, including works such as bush clearance, boulder removal, land leveling and slit application to make the land fit for agriculture.

Facebook launches Messenger for Windows

Here is something that can make you even more addicted to Facebook. The social networking giant, Facebook, has now officially launched Facebook Messenger for Windows, which is a standalone app that lets you IM friends via Windows 7.

The newly introduced app lets you chat, receive notifications, and read your news feed from your desktop. In other words, the messenger lets you use Facebook without being on www.facebook.com. However, missing elements from the app are video chat (through Skype) and group chat, which are there inside its web interface.

Animals fed on a diet supplemented with the vitamin developed bones 20 percent weaker than those that ate normally, within just eight weeks, says a study.

The study looked at the effect of alpha-tocopherol, the most common form of the vitamin, on bone strength, the journal Nature Medicine reported.

Congress MLA ‘forged’ documents to admit daughter in DU

A senior Congress MLA in the city is in the dock for allegedly admitting his daughter in a Delhi University college using fake documents following which the college authorities have filed a complaint with the police.

The allegation was levelled by Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta while releasing documents related to a police complaint filed by Mata Sundri College against Jungpura MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who is also Parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Police said it was investigating the matter.

Russian police break up anti-Putin protests

Russian police have arrested hundreds of people and broken up protests in Moscow and St Petersburg following Vladimir Putin’s victory in the presidential election.

Police moved in to disperse a protest at Pushkin Square in central Moscow, after hundreds of people refused to leave the venue at the end of a larger rally earlier.

Activists who installed themselves on top of a fountain in the square were pulled off by their legs and dragged away by their hands and feet.

UP Polls: SP to sweep Mayawati out of power, says survey

n a battle that almost every poll pundit predicted to be a four-cornered contest ending with a hung assembly in Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) has pulled off a coup, according to the CNN-IBN-The Week post-poll survey conducted by the CSDS.

The survey projects the SP to win 232-250 seats in the 403-member Assembly, thereby ensuring a clear majority for the party. Incumbent Chief Minister Mayawati’s BSP is projected to be a distant second with 65-79 seats while arch rivals Congress and BJP are expected to win 36-44 and 28-38 seats respectively.

Iran court overturns death sentence for US marine accused of spying

Iran’s Supreme Court has overturned a death sentence for spying handed down to former US Marine Amir Mirzai Hekmati, Iranian media reported on Monday, quoting a top judiciary official.

“The sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court … The case has been sent back” to the court for retrial, prosecutor general Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei told a press conference, ISNA news agency reported without elaborating.

CM seeks time from Telangana employees

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Monday said the government was waiting for the high court’s consent to implement an agreement reached with the Telangana employees at the end of a 42-day-long strike last year.

The chief minister told the assembly that the government has sought the court’s permission to implement the agreement and hoped that the matter would come up in a couple of days.

Adjournment of house not proper: TDP
