Google to become top online ad seller in US by 2013

The online advertising business of search engine giant Google is growing faster than anticipated and is expected to surpass Facebook to be the top display ad seller in the US by 2013, a study has said.

Display ad is a form of graphical advertising on the internet usually appearing next to web content as banners or short video clips.

Research firm eMarketer said Facebook crossed Yahoo to be the top display ad-selling internet company in the US last year, and is set to continue the lead in 2012 with a revenue of $2.58 billion, Xinhua reported.

Pakistani security personnel attacked near ‘Osama town’

Two security personnel were shot dead by gunmen Wednesday night while on patrol in Pakistan’s Abbottabad district, famous for being the hideout of slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

A passer-by was also killed in the attack, Xinhua reported citing Geo News Urdu.P

Police said the attack took place when two security personnel patrolling on a motorbike were ambushed by the gunmen in Mir Alam town of Abbottabad district, 60 km north of Islamabad.

The gunmen fled the scene after opening fire on the security personnel, police said.

Iran ready to work with Saudi in PG

Managing director of the National Iranian Offshore Oil Company (NIOOC) says Iran is ready to cooperate with Saudi Arabia to develop the Farzad A joint gas field in the Persian Gulf.

Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh said Wednesday that Iran follows a policy of cooperation, not rivalry, with its neighbors for the development of joint oil and gas fields, especially in the Persian Gulf.

“The National Iranian Offshore Oil Company, therefore, welcomes Saudi Arabia’s willingness to develop this offshore [gas] field,” he added.

Judge to deliver Mubarak verdict on June 2

A Cairo judge has set June 2 as the date for sentencing former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The judge set the date on Wednesday in the final hearing session of the landmark murder and corruption trial of Mubarak.

More than 16,000 people gave testimonies to the prosecution before the trial began in August.

The former president, his sons, Alaa and Gamal, as well as former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli face charges ranging from corruption to involvement in the deaths of hundreds of protesters in the revolution that unseated Mubarak last February.

US may attack Iran from Kyrgyz airbase

Russia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich says the US might use its airbase in Kyrgyzstan for an attack against Iran, which has caused concern Central Asian countries.

“It cannot be excluded that this site (Manas airbase) could be used in a potential conflict with Iran,” Lukashevich said on Wednesday.

“We hope that such an apocalyptic scenario will not be realized,” he added.

“The statements from Washington which do not rule out a military solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis have caused serious worries in the Central Asian region,” Lukashevich said.

Communal riots not new to Gujarat: Modi told SIT

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi not only refused to take the blame for the 2002 anti-Muslim riots but also claimed that communal violence was not new to the state it went as far back as 1714.

“Since long and even before my birth, Gujarat witnessed series of incidents of communal violence,” Modi told the Supreme Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT) on March 27-28, 2010.

“As per available history from 1714 AD until now in Gujarat, thousands of incidents of communal violence have been recorded,” Modi said in his deposition accessed by HT.

McCain sees tension between US, Israel over Iran

US Republican Senator John McCain says there is tension between the United States and Israel as the two allies have different views about how to deal with what he called the “Iran threat.”

Speaking to reporters a few hours after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, McCain said there is “daylight” and “tension” between Jerusalem and Washington over the Iranian issue.

“There should be no daylight between America and Israel in our assessment of the [Iranian] threat. Unfortunately, there clearly is some,” he added.

11 TRS MLAs suspended from Assembly for two days

CBI court extends custody of OMC, Emaar cases accused

The CBI Special court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, OMC managing director B Srinivas Reddy, former mines director V D Rajagipal and another accused IAS officer Y Srilakshmi to March 7.

The CBI court extended the judicial custody of the four accused following expiry of their custody on Wednesday.

The designated court also extended the judicial custody of B P Acharya, Koneru Prasad, Sunil Reddy and Vijaya Raghavan, the accused in the Emaar scam, up to March 7.

Parathasarathy denies TDP’s charges on housing allotment

Krishna District in-charge Minister K Parthasarathy on Wednesday stated that he was ready to face any disciplinary action if the TDP proves charges of irregularities in the allotment of Indiramma houses in Krishna district against him.

Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, the Minister denied the charges leveled against him by the TDP and termed them as ‘baseless and far from truth’. He said he acted as per rules and regulations and did not recommend any names in the allotment of houses violating the GOs issued by the government.

EC issues notifications for by-polls

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued notification for the by-elections in 7 Assembly constituencies in the state.

As per the notification, by-elections will be held in Mahbubnagar, Kolhapur, Nagarkurnool, Adilabad, Kamareddy, Station Ghanapur, Kamareddy and Kovvur Assembly segment in Nellore district on March 18.

The last date for filing nominations is February 29 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 3.

The counting of votes will be done on March 21.

Sunil Reddy’s bail petition hearing adjourned to Feb 27

The CBI special court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on bail petition of N Sunil Reddy, a close aide of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and accused in Emaar Properties case, to February 27.

The special court gave these directions when the Chanchalguda Jail officials presented Sunil Reddy in the court. Sunil Reddy’s counsel stated that his client never collected any money with regard to the township project as being alleged by the CBI and sought bail for his client.
