Two killed in attack on Pakistan police station

Two policemen were killed and six injured Friday when Taliban guerrillas stormed a police station in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, a media report said.

The brazen attack was carried out a day after a deadly car bomb killed over a dozen people and injured more than 20 in Peshawar.

Imtiaz Altraf, an official, said besides the two policemen, the two attackers were also killed in Friday’s incident. Police are searching and clearing the building.

“We have found body parts of the two attackers,” the official said.

Dept of Archeology failed to preserve ancient cannons

(Siasat News) Ancient historical cannons of erstwhile Qutub Shahi period are lying abruptly here and there without any care. There are nearly 70 such cannons. It is quite likely that the antique collectors might grab these cannons anytime. There are Arabic and Persian inscriptions on these cannons. Dept of Archeology must take care of these cannons immediately as they are of historical importance.

Plea to Bardhan for representing Minorities educational issues

(Siasat News) Members of Students’ Islamic Organization (SIO) of Karimnagar district met Mr. A. B. Bardhan, General Secretary of Communist party of India and discussed the issues relating to the students they requested him to exert pressure on Govt. to solve educational issues of Minorities. Mr. Amer Ahmed Khan requested Mr. Bardhan to till the Govt. to allow the elections of students’ union. He told that the role of the opposition in getting 4% reservation for the Minorities is lendable. He also requested him to represent to the Govt.

Historical monument Mahmood Gawan’s school faces danger

(Siasat News)Due to the wreckage of electronic shock observer equipment setup on Mahmood Gawan’s historical school, the building is facing a threat to its existence.

Its minaret is in danger. The iron bar fixed to the minaret has also been broken. The other minaret of the Mosque adjacent to Madrasa has also been damaged earlier.

Madina Charter was the first constitution for peace

(Siasat News) Mr. Mohammed Asifuddin, member of Jamaat-e-Islami (Bidar) said that Islam never confined women in four walls of their houses. In Makka ther was an arrangements for education and training or women. Preferring to civic problems. Mr. Asifuddin told that Prophet Mohammed (SAWS) had told people when he arrived in Madina to wriden roads and to leave space between the houses at the time of construction. For the flow of rain and drainage water, canals were dug.

Marriage hall in Sirpur still incomplete

(Siasat News)Only newspaper statements are being issued but the construction works are not being taken up for the marriage hall in Sirpur town. Leaders have been giving assurances in public meetings to complete the construction of marriage hall but no action seems to be taken in this regard. Former M.P. Dr. Venugopala Chari and former MLA P. Rajya Laxmi had laid the foundation stone in February 2002. KCR had announced Rs. 5 lakh but this amount has not been released. If this work is not done the Muslim voter would teach a lesson to politicians in the next elections.

Maulana Izhar Ashraf passed away

(Siasat News)Maulana Syed Shah Mohammed Izhar Ashraf Ashrafi Jeelani, the Sajjada Nasheen of Kachocha shareef breathed his last yesterday in a hospital in Mumbai. He was 76 years old.

Mosquito Menace – Health Minister admits

(Siasat News)Health Minister Mr. K. Murali admitted that there is mosquito menace in the city which is causing inconvenience to the citizens. He told that many slum areas are affected by it. He assured the Assembly that Govt. will take appropriate measures to end mosquitoes. Govt. will try to launch a campaign through Municipal Corporation for eradication of Mosquitoes. He also said that Govt. has provided relevant medicines in Govt. hospitals.

NYPD spied on New Jersey Muslims

The New York City police have spied on Muslim communities in nearby US sate of New Jersey’s biggest city, in an operation so secretive even the Newark mayor did not know about.

New documents released by the Associated Press show that the NYPD’s secretive Demographics Unit engaged in eavesdropping activities to gather information on mosques and Muslim-owned businesses in Newark in 2007.

Discussion on liquor syndicate – TDP insisted

Request to issue pilgrims passport on priority basis: Ahmedullah

(Siasat News) Minster of Minorities Welfare, Govt. of A.P. made a representation to Dr. K. Srikara Reddy to issue passports to Haj pilgrims on priority basis as this is pre-requisite for submission of Haj applications. He told the passport officer that Haj applications will be received from 1st March to 16th March. He hoped that passport officer will extend cooperation this year also.

Dr. Srikara Reddy assured that the work relating to issue of passports will be expedited.

Bombings kills at least 60 in Iraq

Coordinated attacks across Iraq have left at least 60 people dead and dozens of others wounded, to mark one of the bloodiest days of violence since the start of 2012.

Baghdad suffered the largest number of mortalities on Thursday in nearly 10 bomb explosions that ripped through the capital city during the rush hour and other attacks that hit police patrols, commuters and crowds in shopping areas.

At least 32 people were killed in Baghdad’s attacks, including a car bomb that detonated near a restaurant in the northern Kadhimiya district, which killed six people and wounded 18 more.

Science Fair to be held in Bhopal from Feb. 25

The Madhya Pradesh state capital Bhopal is going to come face to face with new hues of science during a four-day Science Fair starting here from February 25.

Anti-Narcotics Cell opened by A.K. Khan

Hyderabad, February 24: A special Anti-Narcotics Cell within the Central Crime Station of Hyderabad police was inaugurated by the City Police Commissioner, A.K. Khan, on Thursday.

The cell would be part of the CCS and under the control of its DCP with the strength of an Inspector, six Sub-Inspectors, 10 head constables and 30 constables. The cell would comprise of Technical, Surveillance and Investigation wings.

The Cyber Crime police station of the CCS would help in analysing the crime and tracking the accused while surveillance unit would keep tab on the movements of suspects.

Mild tension prevailed at Falaknuma depot staff boycott duties

Commuters travelling in city buses in Old City were stranded till late in the evening on Thursday after RTC Falaknuma depot employees boycotted their duties and staged a demonstration protesting suspension of an employee.

Employees also called for one-day bandh across all depots and suspension of services on Friday. Mild tension prevailed at Falaknuma depot for some time in the afternoon, when employees staged a demonstration and stopped buses from hitting the roads.

Indian diplomat asked to pay $1.5 mn to abused housemaid

A New York judge has recommended that a young Indian housemaid deserves nearly $1.5 million for her “barbaric treatment” at the hands of an Indian diplomat and her husband here.

The proposed award includes $500,000 for the “emotional distress” inflicted on Shanti Gurung by Neena Malhotra, who then served as the Press Counsellor at the Indian consulate here, and her husband, Jogesh Malhotra, according to the New York Post.

Torture of Muslims: CPI(M) seeks House panel probe

Hyderabad, February 24: Former Rajya Sabha member and CPI (M) leader P. Madhu on Thursday demanded that the State government constitute a House committee to probe allegations of torture of innocent Muslim youth in Old City by the police.

Addressing a press conference here, he charged the police personnel in Old City with harassing youth by opening rowdy-sheets against them stating that they were involved in communal cases.

Over 59% turnout in U.P. fifth phase

Lucknow, February 24: The fifth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Thursday recorded a turnout of over 59 per cent. Forty-nine seats are being contested over 13 districts.

Election Commission officials in Lucknow and Delhi said 59.2 per cent of the 1.56 crore electorate cast its franchise.

In the 2007 Assembly elections, a total 47.57 per cent votes were cast in these districts.

No player in Sachin’s class: Vengsarkar

Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar on Wednesday, slammed suggestions in the media and views of another former captain Kapil Dev that Sachin Tendulkar should quit one-day cricket, saying that the master batsman needed no advice on this issue.

“There is no need to advise a legend to hang his boots when he himself, I am sure, will do so when the time is right for him to do so,” said Vengsarkar, a former chief selector, in a statement issued here.

Akram backs Dhoni’s moves

Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram has backed Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s controversial rotation policy, saying that there is “good reason” behind the move as senior players are either “not in his control” or they have become a “liability”.

Dhoni’s remarks about senior players being slow fielders has triggered speculation that there are dissensions in the Indian dressing room.

4.5% reservation for minorities in IITs from this year

Hyderabad, February 24: There is good news for IIT aspirants from the minority community. The IIT-JEE Admission Committee has decided to implement 4.5 per cent reservation for them within the 27 per cent seats meant for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) from this year.

Those minority candidates who had submitted the application forms online and have not mentioned their status can do so on the IIT-JEE website — http://jee.iitd.ac.in/obcminority.php — by giving an undertaking that they have a minority status and would submit the certificate before the exam on April 8.

Gul inspires Pakistan to Twenty20 win

Paceman Umar Gul took 3-18 to inspire Pakistan to a thrilling eight-run win in the first of three Twenty20 internationals against England at Dubai Stadium on Thursday.

England, the reigning Twenty20 world champions, were cruising at 120-4 after 17 overs, chasing 145 to win, but Gul took two wickets in the 18th over for just three runs to change the complexion of the game, eventually restricting England to 136-6.

Graeme Swann rocked the middle-order with a burst of three wickets off eight balls to restrict Pakistan, put into bat, to 144-6 with Shoaib Malik making 39.

Dhoni-Viru to sort out rift

The BCCI on Thursday stepped in to bring about harmony in the Indian cricket team in Australia, telling skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and vice-captain Virender Sehwag to ensure that there was unity.

Although the BCCI had claimed that there was no rift in the team and there was nothing to be “concerned about”, it is learnt that secretary Sanjay Jagdale has been entrusted with the task of talking to the team management and helping restore peace in the dressing room.
