No looking back for Gujarat: Modi

On the eve of a decade of the Godhra train carnage and the subsequent communal riots, Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dared Gujarat-bashers to try disrupting the peace and bonhomie experienced in the State in the last 10 years.

Dedicating to the people the new ultra-modern and high-tech central jail in Surat, Mr. Modi said that for the last 10 years a “handful of Gujarat-bashers” had left no stone unturned to defame Gujarat and disrupt peace, communal harmony and sense of brotherhood being witnessed in the State.

Missing Pak Actress ‘Laila Khan’ Finally Traced In Dubai

Pakistani actress Laila Khan who had disappeared mysteriously from India last year has been finally traced by a team of Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS).

According to the ATS team, Laila Khan is presently living in Dubai with her mother, four siblings and another person called ‘Ateeq’ who has married Khan’s mother.

The ATS team says that Khan allegedly owed money to a friend and fled the country when payment of this money became a headache for her.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced that his party would field its candidate from Kovvur seat in Nellore district in the by-elections to be held on March 18.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Chandrasekhar Rao said that the if people from Seemandhra could participate in elections from Telangana region, then why people from this region could not win elections in Seemandhra. He said the TRS participation would also expose how voters in Seemandhra region treat Telangana candidates.

GHMC initiates criminal action against Monda Mkt building owners

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday said that it would initiate criminal action against the owners of building at Monda Market whose demolition led to the death of four persons on Saturday.

In a statement, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu said that the building owners Ajay Kumar Kataria, Nirmal Kumar Lalwani, Ashish Kumar Modi and Govind Kumar Modi demolished their premises without taking proper precautionary measures.

BJP demands quality seeds for farmers in Khariff season

In a letter to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the BJP leader said that the farmers have suffered huge losses in last Khariff season due to various factors. Therefore, the government should ensure that such problems do not recur this year.

Lok Satta to contest from two seats in by-polls

The Lok Satta party will field its candidates from two seats in the by-elections to be held on March 18.

Talking to reporters during Rythu Maha Satyagraha Yatra here on Sunday, Lok Satta president Dr Jayaprakash Narayan said that the party would contest from Mahbubnagar and Kovvur constituencies in the by-elections. US troops in Yemeni island for Iran war

A report has revealed that thousands of US troops have arrived in the Yemeni island of Socotra for a possible military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The troops built up comes a few months after the announcement of the creation of a US Army base near Yemeni waters, Islam Today website reported.

This is while Yemen had said that it rejected a deal with Washington for having a temporary military base in the island.

Criminal escapes from Chikkadpally PS, ASI suspended

The City Police commissioner AK Khan today suspended Chikkadpally ASI Venkataiah in connection with escaping of a crimimal from the station. Auto driver Mirza, who was picked up by the Chikkadpally police in connection with a criminal case managed to escape from police custody last evening.

In a release, Mr Khan said the departmental action also would be initiated against Additional Inspector K.Subbirami Reddy, Head Constable Vali and also on station House Officer S Pratap responsible for dereliction of duties. A special team was formed to nab the criminal, the release added. UNI

‘Separated wife entitled to maintenance as per husband’s financial status’

The Delhi High Court has ruled that a wife, though separated, is entitled to maintenance depending on her husband’s financial position.

“A life on alimony is not to be a life different from what the wife would have led if the relationship had not gone sour. The quantum of maintenance inter alia depends upon the status of the husband,” a division bench of acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said.

It rejected the argument that if a husband provides food and shelter after a separation, he owes nothing more to his wife.

MP govt commits to curb cow slaughter: CM

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said the state government is committed to curbing cow slaughter and female foeticide. Addressing a Pratishtha Mahotsav of Jain community at village Ghasoi in Mandsaur district yesterday, the Chief Minister said that a stringent law has been enacted that provides for ensuring strict punishment to those found guilty of cow slaughter directly or indirectly, an official satatement said. Mr Chouhan said a cow sanctuary is being established in 983 acre area in Shajapur district.

Death toll in building collapse rises to 4

The death toll in yesterday’s old building collapse in the busy Monda Market area in Secunderabad in the state capital rose to four today morning as another labourer succumbed to injuries at Gandhi Hospital here.

Two labourers, who were severely injured in the 60-year-old building collapse, were shifted to Gandhi hospital but one labourer succumbed to injuries in the morning, according to police sources here.

41 MRDS to come up in Hyderabad : NDMA VC

As many as 41 Mobile Radiation Detection Systems (MRDS) will set up in the state capital soon to detect radioactive material using in acts of terrorism and disruption. Talking to media persons here today, National Disaster Managment Authority (NDMA) Vice-Chairman M Shashidhar Reddy said such systems would come up at all major cities across the country as part of the preparedness to handle radiological emergencies like the one that hit the Mayapuri area in Delhi in 2010 when one person died and eight people were hospitalised for radiation exposure.
