Hunger strike of Osmania University Teachers from today

Osmania University Teachers’ Association (OUTA) and N.G.O’s Association have demanded the vice chancellor and the Govt. to solve their long pending demands. The leaders of these unions have threatened to organize relay hunger strike in front of Arts College from today Dr. B. Manohar, Secretary, OUTA told that many representations have been made but so far no action has been taken. University authorities are deliberately avoiding to solve these problems, due to which the teachers and the N.G.O.’s are forced to resort the direct action.

It is a pathetic story of Mr. Shaik Amjad, an auto driver. He pooled up Rs. 12,500 and approached the financier who lent him Rs. 50,000 to buy an auto. The rate of interest was 2%. He repaid 18 installments. He could not pay four installments due to his daughter’s marriage for his default, the financier Pentu imposed new rates of interest as “cut money” by which, he had to pay Rs. 1500 p.m. Meanwhile auto rickshaw was damaged and he had to spend Rs. 12,000 for its repairs.

He said that so far, he has paid Rs. 2 lakh interest for the loan of Rs. 50,000.

15 member doctors’ team from Palmer University Davenport, IOWA (USA) arrived in Hyderabad yesterday under the stewardship of Dr. Moin Ansari. Dr. Syed Ghouseuddin and Dr. Mohammed Samiullah khan welcomed the guests at the airport. Members of the team Dr. Julie Johnson and Dr. Winda Corbett told that they have visited Hyderabad earlier and they have seen the historical places. Man stoned to death by son

In a gruesome incident, a father was allegedly stoned to death by his son over a property dispute, police said on Sunday.

Bishambhar (60), a resident of Kherikarmu village in Prabudhnagar district, was stoned to death by his son Sandeep before being strangulated with a cycle tube.

A case has been registered and hunt is on to nab the absconding culprit, they said.

Meanwhile in another case, a 22-year-old youth Amit Kumar hanged himself to death in Shamli town of Prabudhnagar district, police said, adding that reasons behind the step are yet to be known.

Aarushi’s case transfer plea in SC today

The Supreme Court will on Monday take up petition of Dr Rajesh Talwar and his wife Nupur, who want the trial of their daughter Aarushi’s murder case shifted from Ghaziabad to Delhi.

Aarushi’s parents have pleaded the court citing security concerns and also said that most of the witnesses are in Delhi.

Yeddyurappa turns 69, deadline to BJP ends

With Karnataka BJP strongman BS Yeddyurappa remaining defiant after being rebuffed by BJP chief Nitin Gadkari in his bid to regain chief ministership, all eyes are on the former chief minister’s birthday bash Monday as he is expected to take a “drastic” decision whether to continue in the party or not.

Khap leaders meet to decide on quota strategy

After the unsuccessful talks between Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Jat leaders in Delhi, Khap (caste council) leaders would now meet at Jind in Haryana Monday to decide the further course of action to demand OBC status and quota for the community in goverment jobs.

Eight killed as car hits lorry

Eight persons, including four women and two children, were killed when a car they were travelling in dashed against a lorry near Alangulam on Sunday evening.

The police said a group of people was returning home in the vehicle after attending a function at Tirunelveli.

The dead were identified as G. Ammaiyappan (44) of Melagaram, his daughter A. Selvi (20), son A. Gowtham Raj (9), U. Arumuga Kalanjiyam (55) of Seevanallur, K. Jayakumari (37) of Sivagiri, her daughter K. Gayathri (13), son K. Harish (10), and car driver A. Bala (32) of Tenkasi.

Strong blast hits at eastern Afghan airport

Afghan police say a large explosion has gone off at the gates of Jalalabad airport in eastern Afghanistan.

Provincial police spokesman Hazrad Mohammad confirms “a very strong” blast hit this morning at the entrance to the airport in Nangarhar province but says he does not yet have further details

An AP photographer reports seeing at least four destroyed cars at the airport gates. The airport serves both civilian and international military aircraft.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the blast, but Mohammad says many are feared.

A decade of Gujarat Carnage 2002

India has witnessed many an acts of communal violence. Starting from the Jabalpur riot of 1961 to the last major one of Kandhmal (August 2008). Many an innocent lives have been lost in the name of religion. Amongst these the Gujarat carnage is a sort of marker. It came in the backdrop of massive Anti Sikh pogrom of 1984, the anti Muslim violence of post Babri demolition and the horrific burning of Pastor Graham Steward Stains in Kandhmal. It was a quantitative and qualitative departure from the other major carnages which have rocked the country.

Corrupt leaders will be ousted from power like Gaddafi

Baba Ramdev envisions a Libya-like popular revolution in India in which the corrupt leaders will be ousted from power like Muammar Gaddafi, the slain long-time ruler of the north African country.

Speaking to reporters here Sunday after his day-long fast against “corruption, black money and illegal mining”, Ramdev also said that one family and one party had been responsible for bankruptcy and looting of India.

“Those corrupt people who are in power, will be wiped off like Gaddafi. Only there, people used violence, while I am advocating democratic means,” Ramdev said.

SP trying to hijack Muslim quota: Rahul

The Samajwadi Party on Sunday faced the ire of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi for trying to cash in on the Muslim quota issue even though there was nothing concrete that was done by Mulayam for the community during his reign in Uttar Pradesh. Rahul accused the SP for trying to ride the Congress bandwagon in which the UPA government had decided on giving 4.5% quota to Muslims under the OBC category.

Rahul also accused the BSP government of siphoning thousands of crores of rupees sent by the UPA government to provide scholarships to poor Muslim students.

BJP urges govt to bring a law on diversion of SC,ST funds

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today requested the government to bring an effective law in the ongoing Assembly Session to prevent diversion of SC,ST’s sub-plan funds. In a letter to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, a copy of which was released to the press here, Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatraya said for the past few years, there were reports that the funds relating to SC,ST Welare Funds under SCSP and TSP were being diverted for other works.

5 killed in AP mishaps

Five persons, including a mother and her 9-month-old daughter, were killed and six injured in two road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today. At Ranga Reddy district, a 28-year-old woman and her daughter were killed and her brother seriously injured when a two-wheeler in which they were travelling was hit by a lorry at Kesara Mandal in the district. The mishap occurred at Rampalli-Cheralpalli Road when they are proceeding to Yadagirigutta from Cherlapalli.

US wants ties with Pakistan: Envoy

A US diplomat reiterated Sunday that Washington wants bilateral ties with Islamabad.

Charge d’Affaires Richard Hoagland told Geo News in an interview the US was waiting for the Pakistani parliament’s decision regarding the relationship between the two countries.

After a NATO air strike on two Pakistan Army check-posts killed 24 soldiers, Islamabad said it needed to rethink its relationship with Washington.

4 arrested for raping minor girl

Four youths were Sunday arrested for raping a Class 10 student after abducting her and forcing her to drink alcohol, police said. However, a senior police officer said that the girl had gone with them willingly and all that happened was with her consent.

Himanshu Sharma, 23, Rahul Kumar, 24, Sunil Singh, 22, and Saurabh Chauhan, 23, were arrested from near the Spice Mall here and a car used in the crime seized. One more accused, identified as Neeraj, is still at large.

According to Superintendent of Police (City) Anant Dev, the accused had raped the 16-year-old girl Friday night.
