Hazare in Bangalore for ayurvedic treatment

Bangalore, February 02: Anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare arrived in Bangalore today for ayurvedic treatment.

India Against Corruption coordinator Prithvi Reddy said Hazare would stay at the Jindal Naturopathy Centre for the next ten days.

“Anna has been recommended to take ayurvedic or some natural process to regain his health. So, he is going to be at the Jindal Naturopathy Centre in Bangalore for next ten days,” said Reddy.

The activist will undergo detailed check up to determine his ailments.

Manmohan Singh, Chidambaram not responsible for 2G spectrum loss: Sibal

New Delhi, February 02: Welcoming the Supreme Court’s judgement of quashing 122 spectrum licences, Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and then Finance Minister P Chidambaram were not responsible for the loss of revenue in the 2G allocation scam.

Two elderly protesters die in Bahrain due to toxic tear gas

Bahrain, February 02: Two elderly Bahraini protesters have been killed after inhaling poisonous tear gas fired by regime forces during attacks on protesters in the village of Ma’ameer and the Naim neighborhood in the capital Manama, Press TV reports.

On Wednesday, an elderly Bahraini man died after the Saudi-backed regime forces attacked his home in Ma’ameer, about 15 kilometers (9.5 miles) south of Manama, with tear gas.

The other victim was an elderly woman who also died after inhaling toxic tear gas in a similar attack by regime forces in Naim.

Cement crisis worsens

JEDDAH, Feb 02: A cement crisis resulting from illegal trading and a steep hike in prices is spreading from Jeddah and Madinah to other major cities and regions in the Kingdom.

In Jeddah a bag of cement now costs over SR25 and most dealings take place through middlemen whereas in Madinah the prices of cement per bag have shot up by SR20.

More than 70 die in Egyptian soccer pitch invasion

CAIRO, Feb 02: Seventy-three people were killed and at least 1,000 injured on Wednesday after a soccer pitch invasion in the Egyptian city of Port Said, a health ministry official said, in an incident that one player described as “a war, not football.”
“This is unfortunate and deeply saddening. It is the biggest disaster in Egypt’s soccer history,” deputy health minister Hesham Sheiha told state television.
Violence at football matches across north Africa has increased significantly since political unrest sweeping across the region began more than a year ago.

Iran said willing to attack U.S. soil

WASHINGTON, Feb. 02 — Iran is increasingly likely to launch terrorist attacks inside the United States and against U.S. and allied targets around the world, the U.S. spy chief said.

Evidence of such readiness can be found in an alleged Iranian plot last fall to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington, Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. told the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Jet strikes kill 20 Taliban in Orakzai: Officials

PESHAWAR, Feb 02: Warplanes pounded militant hideouts in the northwestern tribal area before dawn on Wednesday, killing at least 20 Taliban insurgents, security officials said.

The jets targeted hideouts in the tribal Orakzai district and at least four compounds were hit, they said, in the latest surge of fighting between government security forces and militants in the Afghan border areas.

“At least 20 Taliban militants were killed in the bombing,” a military official in Peshawar said.

Local intelligence officials confirmed the air strikes.

11 Iranian pilgrims kidnapped in Syria

Syria, Feb 02: Eleven Iranian citizens were kidnapped while on a religious pilgrimage in Syria, state television reported on Wednesday, just days after the abduction of another group of pilgrims by an armed group in the country.

“Their bus was on its way … to Damascus when it was attacked by an armed group and 11 out of 35 passengers were abducted,” the television quoted Iranian pilgrimage official Massoud Akhavan as saying.

“The kidnapped men were transferred to an unknown location,” Akhavan said.

Pakistan Has No Secret Plans for Afghanistan, Khar Says

Kabul, Feb 02: Speaking at a press conference in Kabul Mrs Khar stressed that Pakistan will respect the sovereignty and independence of Afghanistan.

She emphasized that good relations between Islamabad and Kabul will bring stability in the region.

“Pakistan stands for Afghanistan’s unity,” Mrs Khar said. “We have got any threat to Afghanistan’s unity and integrity is a threat against Pakistan itself.”

“Let me say that Pakistan has no hidden plans against Afghanistan,” she added.

She called the two countries close to each other and blamed the governments for the tensions.

Ratan Tata seeks report on Radia tapes

New Delhi, February 02: Industrialist Ratan Tata on Thursday urged the Supreme Court to direct the central government to provide him the confidential report on the leakage of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia’s taped conversations.

He asked for the report of the probe by the income tax director general so

that he could implead the telecom service providers as necessary parties in the case.

Be truthful, Tehran tells IAEA

TEHRAN, Feb. 2: Inspectors with the International Atomic Energy Agency will be barred from Iran if they’re suspected of misleading the global community, an official said.

IAES inspectors have returned to Vienna following a visit to Iran to resolve questions regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Mostafa Kavakebian, a lawmaker on the Iranian Parliament’s foreign policy committee, said if the IAEA published an “unrealistic report” on Iran’s nuclear work and misled the international community, inspectors would be barred from entering the country, state-funded broadcaster Press TV reports.

Leaked US document can be “disregarded”: Khar

KABUL, Feb. 2: Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said on Wednesday that a leaked US military report claiming Pakistan supported the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan can be “disregarded”.
“We can disregard this as a potentially strategic leak…This is old wine in an even older bottle,” she told reporters during an official visit to the Afghan capital Kabul.

Andhra home secretary BP Acharya lands in jail

Hyderabad, February 02: Visiting Chanchalguda Central Jail as Andhra Pradesh home secretary, he had received a guard of honour. Just two months later, senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer B.P. Acharya Thursday found himself in the same jail as an undertrial.

A special court sent Acharya to jail in the Emaar-APIIC township scam in which he is the prime accused.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which arrested the 1983-batch IAS officer on Monday, presented him before the special court dealing with the CBI cases. He was remanded in judicial custody till Feb 15.

Court rejects CBI plea for narco test on Jagan aide

Hyderabad, February 02: A special court here Thursday dismissed a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) petition seeking its permission for narco-analysis test on Vijay Sai Reddy, a close aide of YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, in a case involving Jaganmohan’s alleged illegal assets.

The CBI special court refused permission for narco-analysis test on the ground that, as ruled by the Supreme Court, it could not be conducted without the consent of the accused.

Rights group sues US for ‘targeted killing’ memos

Washington, February 02: A leading American rights group has sued the US government, saying the Justice Department should release legal justification for targeted assassination program that killed US citizens abroad.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Wednesday filed a lawsuit in a New York court, demanding the disclosure of documents authorizing targeted assassination drone strikes.

Citing last year’s killing of US born Anwar al-Awlaqi in a drone attack in Yemen, ACLU called for “basic — and accurate — information about the government’s targeted killing program.”

Infant’s dead body found from bushes

Hyderabad, February 2 (Siasat News): L B Nagar police has recovered the dead body of an infant from the bushes in Birmalguda.

According to police sources, following the complaint of the municipal sanitary officer, the police came into action and found the dead body of a male child aged just 2 days.

Someone had thrown the dead body wrapped in a polythene bag. Police has shifted the dead body to the mortuary after panchnama and further investigations are on.
