Doha,January 30 :Several Taliban negotiators have begun meeting U.S. officials in Qatar, where they are discussing preliminary trust-building measures, including a possible prisoner transfer, said several former Taliban officials on Saturday.

The former officials said four to eight Taliban representatives had travelled to Qatar from Pakistan to set up a political office for the exiled Afghan militant group.

Auto Drivers’ Day

Hyderabad, January 30: Greater Hyderabad Auto Drivers Co-operative Credit Society has decided to observe Auto Drivers Day, by providing excellent services to the passengers on February 14, the Valentine’s Day.

Society’s president R. Hiranaiah told media that a meeting will be held at Indira Park in this connection from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. He told that on the occasion, the society will hand over the autos purchased on bank loan to the auto drivers.

Telangana auto drivers JAC convenor Mohammad Amanullah was also present on the occasion.

Polling underway in Punjab, Uttarakhand

Dehradun, January 30: Polling began on a dull vote in the Assembly elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand on Monday with around 10% polling recorded in both states till 10 am.

In Punjab, only about 10 percent of around 1.76 crore voters exercised their franchise till 10 am when reports last came in.

The polling remained peaceful in the initial two hours with no reports of violence received, special Chief electoral Officer Usha R Sharma said.

She said the polling is likely to pick up as the day advances.

Right to reject can be considered: SY Quraishi

New Delhi, January 30: Asking government to take up electoral reforms in the coming session of Parliament, Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi on Sunday said the time has come to consider the Right to reject proposal.

The CEC rejected the suggestion for state funding of elections, saying “this will only further add to the problem and not curb the use of money power in elections”.

Shutdown by Dalit groups in Andhra

Hyderabad, Janaury 30: A day-long shutdown began in Andhra Pradesh Monday on a call given by Dalit groups to protest the recent desecration of statues of B.R. Ambedkar.

Schools, colleges, shops and business establishments remained closed in many districts while protestors blocked roads to stop buses of state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).

Student organistaions, especially Osmania University student Joint Action Committee has also called for a shutdown to protest the desecration of statues in Amlapuram and other parts of East Godavari district.

Biryani prices in Dubai, Sharjah increase by as much as Dh4

Dubai, January 30: Restaurants and cafeterias in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman have increased the price of biryani by between Dh2 and Dh4.

Owners have attributed the hike to an increase in meat and commodity prices.

“We have been selling chicken biryani at Dh10 per plate for more than two years. However, recently we have increased the price to Dh12 because the price of chicken, mutton, fish and other commodities have gone up. Even drinking water companies and cooking gas companies have been increasing their prices,” said the manager of an Indian restaurant in Al Qouz Mall, Dubai.

Hyderabad, January 30: (Siasat News) Under the auspices of Abid Ali Khan Educational Trust, Urdu tests of ‘Zabandani’ and “Urdu Insha” were conducted in the state and also in the neighboring states. According to Mr. Mohammed Habeebur Rahman, incharge of the section, the test was conducted at 116 centres in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. In other districts of A.P. 37 centres were set-up. In all 11024 persons wrote the examination.

India won’t scale down its petroleum imports from Iran: FM

New Delhi, January 30: India, which imports 12 per cent of its oil from Iran, will not scale down its petroleum imports from Tehran despite US and European sanctions against the Islamic republic, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said. “It is not possible for India to take any decision to reduce the imports from Iran drastically, because among the countries which can provide the requirement of the emerging economies, Iran is an important country amongst them,” Mukherjee told reporters here.

Destitute Muslim dead bodies buried

Hyderabad, January 30: (Siasat News) On receiving a request from Mr. Venkateshwarlu, Inspector of Police, Kachiguda, Mr. Amer Ali Khan, News Editor, Siasat made arrangements for the burial of the dead body of Ms. Fatima. Similar request were received from Mr. Sreedhar, Inspector of Police, Nampally, and Inspector of Police, Habeebnagar. Altogether six dead bodies were procured from the mortuary of Osmania General Hospital and arrangements were made for their burial at Amanullah Shah Graveyard.

10 women hurt as RTC buses collide

Hyderabad, January 30: As many as 10 women passengers were hospitalised with minor injuries after an RTC bus in which they were travelling was rammed by another RTC bus.

The injured were shifted to a nearby private hospitals and discharged after first aid. According to police, the accident took place around 5.30 a.m. when a city bus belonging to Ravulapalem depot and on its way to Hyderabad rammed into a bus which was parked at the bus shelter at Innaguda village under Hayatnagar police station limits.

Permission for Milad meetings as per norms

Hyderabad, January 30: With Milad-un Nabi round the corner, allegations of permission denial by police for conducting meetings in public places and decorating them with flags and buntings have surfaced but the police maintain that permissions were being given ‘as per the norm.’

Sections of people have been complaining that applications for meetings (Jalsas) are being denied. According to complainants the police had denied permissions to conduct meetings in public places in Falaknuma, Santosh Nagar and some other areas.
