Qutub Shahi Mosque Balapur surveyed again

Hyderabad, January 31: Qutub Shahi Mosque of Balapur which was demolished earlier was surveyed again jointly by the officials of Revenue and Wakf Board. Two weeks back it was demolished by land developers for converting it into plots.

Muslims had protested against its demolition. Siasat had published a pictorial news report a few days back about this mosque. The surprising thing is that even after 13 days of its demolition, the officials of Wakf Board have not been able to assess the area of land registered under wakf act.

New Delhi, January 31 : The Gandhi family will hit the campaign trail in Uttar Pradesh from February 1 with Congress president Sonia Gandhi addressing rallies at Deoria and Gonda.

Two Pakistan Spinners Among Top 10

Abu Dhabi, January 31: Pakistan spinners Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman were listed among the top 10 test bowlers in rankings published by the International Cricket Council on Sunday.

The duo played a key role in their team’s remarkable 72-run win against England in the second test on Saturday.

According to the ICC, two Pakistan spinners have not made the top 10 in 23 years.

Mumbai, January 31: A junior police official in Mumbai requested his boss to permit him to commit suicide as he could no longer take the mental torture that was being inflicted on him.

US drone operations anger Iraqis

Washington, January 31: Washington’s unauthorized surveillance drone operations in Iraq have prompted outrage among senior Iraqi officials and the public.

Iraqis say the US must respect the country’s sovereignty and consult with the Baghdad government before carrying out any operation now that “the war is over.”

But Iraqi officials say they have never been consulted by the US about the drone operations and that despite the official US withdrawal from Iraq, it maintains a strong presence in the country.

‘I was sacked for refusing to do a favour to DGP’

Bonanza for salaried class in Budget 2012-13?

New Delhi, January 31: Union Budget 2012-13 may bring cheer to the salaried class as the Centre is said to be mulling a restructuring of the income tax slab.

According to reports, Monday, Union Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee may announce a rejig in income tax slabs and also increase the income tax exemption limit from the existing Rs 1.8 lakh to at least Rs 2 lakh.

A newspaper report said that the new tax slabs could be in line with the Direct Taxes Code Bill, which was introduced in Parliament in 2010.

TRS leader booked for slapping Municipal official

Warrangal, January 31: A TRS leader was Monday booked for allegedly slapping and swearing at a deputy commissioner of Warangal Municipal Corporation (WMC).

A case has been registered against TRS urban constituency in-charge A Vidyasagar under section 169 of Indian Penal Code after he reportedly slapped N Shankar during a ‘dial your commissioner’ programme. Vidyasagar swore at Shankar, who was conducting the programme in the absence of the commissioner, threw the grievance papers and slapped the deputy.

Haiti won’t try Baby Doc for rights abuses

Haiti, January 31: A Haitian judge has recommended that former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier face trial for corruption but not for human rights violations.

Investigative Magistrate Jean Carves said on Monday that Duvalier should not face charges of human rights abuses allegedly committed during his 15-year rule because those charges fell outside Haiti’s statute of limitations.

Duvalier is alleged to have embezzled between 300 million and 800 million dollars of assets during his presidency.

He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
