Adelaide, January 24: On a batsmen friendly pitch, Australia wrested back the initial advantage from the Indians as they finished with 335/3 on the first day of the Adelaide Test on Tuesday.

Ricky Ponting (137*) and Michael Clarke (140*) were on the crease at stumps as they forged a partnership of 251 runs to pile misery on the Indians who are in search of an elusive win on Australian shores this summer.

Four Indians die of gas poisoning in Bahrain

Dubai, January 24: Four Indians working as labourers in Bahrain have died of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning in the country’s Hamad Town.

Police said the men never woke up after lighting a wood fire in an empty paint drum before going to bed in the room they shared on Sunday. A fifth worker survived.

All the five were from Kerala, the Gulf Daily News reported. The bodies were discovered yesterday morning by their colleagues who went to check on them after they failed to show up for work.

RIL’s Rs 10,440 cr share buyback to start from Feb 1

New Delhi, January 24: The country’s most-valued firm Reliance Industries, Tuesday said its Rs 10,440 crore share buyback offer will start from February 1 and closes on January 19, 2013.

In a public announcement, Reliance Industries said that the buyback which is possibly the largest such programme in the history of the Indian capital market, would start on February 1 and closes on January 19 next year (12 months from the date, the board of directors of the company approved the buy back).

RBI cuts CRR by 0.5% but keeps rates unchanged

Mumbai, January 24: RBI on Tuesday injected Rs 32,000 crore into the system by lowering the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by half-a-percentage point but kept the short-term lending rate unchanged in view of persisting inflationary concerns.

“Based on the current inflation trajectory, including consideration of suppressed inflation, it is premature to begin reducing the policy rate,” RBI Governor D Subbarao said while unveiling the third quarterly monetary policy review.

With additional liquidity by CRR cut, there is a possibility that banks may reduce the interest rate to attract borrowers.

Oldest dinosaur nursery found in South Africa

Washington, January 24: An ancient dinosaur nursery – the oldest nesting site ever found has been unearthed in an excavation at a site in South Africa.

The 190-million-year-old nesting site of the prosauropod dinosaur Massospondylus reveals significant clues about the evolution of complex reproductive behaviour in early dinosaurs.

It discover clutches of eggs, many with embryos, as well as tiny dinosaur footprints, providing the oldest known evidence that the hatchlings remained at the nesting site long enough to at least double in size.

‘Pro-Gaddafis not in control of Bani Walid’

Tripoli, January 24: Libya’s interim government has rejected reports that the supporters of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi have taken over the town of Bani Walid, southeast of the capital, Tripoli.

The denial came after former National Transitional Council (NTC) member M’barek al-Fotmani said on Monday that “the loyalists of Gaddafi took control of the entire city of Bani Walid.”

According to Fotmani, the loyalists were carrying green flags and chanting pro-Gaddafi slogans.

San Francisco, January 24: The crackdown on file-sharing site Megaupload is expected to do little to reduce overall piracy of music, software and Hollywood movies, while potentially stifling emerging means of distributing content online.

In the wake of last week’s surprising indictment of the digital storage company and seven executives, other companies have begun changing their policies even as Megaupload officers maintained their innocence in a first court appearance in New Zealand.

Women on the pill have less menstrual pain

New York, January 24: Young women on birth control pills tend to have less painful menstrual periods than those not on the contraceptives, a new study find.

Swedish researchers found that of 2,100 women followed from age 19 to 24, those on the combined birth control pill (estrogen and progestin) had less-severe menstrual pain over time.

It`s already common practice for doctors to recommend the Pill to women with dysmenorrhea — menstrual cramps, back pain and other symptoms that are severe enough to disrupt a woman`s life.

Applications invited for ESIC posts

Hyderabad, January 24: According to Syed Nazimuddin (retd. Lecturer), president Aman Educational and Welfare Association, Rahul colony Phase II Tolichowki, applications are invited by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) for filling up 120 posts of Upper Division Clerk (UDC).

The educational qualification required for 49 posts of UDC is graduate with knowledge of computer data base. For 72 posts of Multitasking Staff (MTS) the candidates must have passed SSC.

Study: Stem cells may aid vision in blind people

Los Angeles, January 24: Two legally blind women appeared to gain some vision after receiving an experimental treatment using embryonic stem cells, the scientists have reported.

While embryonic stem cells were first isolated more than a decade ago, most of the research has been done in lab animals.

The new results come from the first tests in humans for a vision problem. Researchers caution the work is still very preliminary.

9 yr-old girl gang-raped

Cuttack, January 24: Yet another case of alleged rape has surfaced in the state, this time the victim is a nine-year-old girl from Bhadrak. The minor girl with severe perineal injuries is undergoing treatment at the SCB medical college and hospital, Cuttack. The girl was referred from Bhadrak district headquarter hospital to SCB in a very critical condition on Sunday night. Dhanush all set for his debut Hindi film

Chennai, January 24: After making a splash all over India with his chartbuster ‘Kolaveri Di’, Dhanush is all set to sizzle the Bollywood silver screen.

The national award winning actor will be teaming up with ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ director Anand L Rai for a film titled ‘Raanjhnaa’.

Shah Rukh, Imran turn brothers in ‘Vettai’ remake?

Mumbai, january 24: After tasting instant success with Tamil blockbuster ‘Vettai’, UTV Motion Pictures are keen to remake the film in Hindi.

In the original, Madhavan and Arya play brothers, where one is peace loving and the other is a ruffian. In the Hindi version, UTV wants to try the fresh pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Imran Khan as brothers.

Apparently, UTV’s this decision has not gone down well with Madhavan, who is very much a successful star in Tamil and Hindi cinema. Buzz has it that Madhavan is keen on essaying his character in the Hindi remake.

Manmohan joins Twitter

New Delhi, January 24: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has joined Twitter to capture the attention of young Indians and inform people about the work done by his office through 140 characters on the microblogging site.

“The Prime Minister’s office is now on Twitter @PMOIndia Thank you for your support,” Manmohan Singh’s newly appointed communications advisor Pankaj Pachauri said on his own Twitter account.

Within hours of opening the account late Monday, Manmohan Singh attracted nearly 7,000 followers and written three tweets till Tuesday afternoon.

Riyadh, January 24: Personal disputes must be kept out of work and those who use labour laws to settle scores will not be tolerated, the Ministry of Labour has warned.

The Ministry made the statement as it annulled a report by a company that one of its workers has absconded after it found out that the complaint was triggered by the employee’s sister because of a personal rift.

2G scam: Vinod Goenka moves HC against framing of charges

New Delhi, January 24: The Delhi High Court today issued notice to CBI and sought its response on the plea of DB Realty MD Vinod Goenka challenging the order on framing of charges against him by the trial court in the 2G scam case.

“Issue notice to CBI for March 13,” Justice ML Mehta said while admitting the petition of Goenka.

Goenka was arrested on April 20, 2011 for his alleged role in the scam and was granted bail on November 23, 2011 by the Supreme Court.
