India has no right to celebrate its Republic Day in Kashmir: Gilani

Srinagar, January 26: The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that India has no right to celebrate the Republic Day in occupied until it gives right to self determination to people of Kashmir.

Gilani, while talking to Dr R K Jain Director of Jain TV Channel in New Delhi, stated that he was not against the Republic Day celebrations and people of India but wanted right to self-determination.

Severe flooding, landslides kill 6 in Fiji

Fiji, January 26: Severe flooding and landslides in Fiji have killed six people and left hundreds more homeless.

The permanent secretary of information for the South Pacific nation said Thursday that heavy rain since last weekend has forced 3,500 people into temporary shelters. Sharon Smith-Johns also says some people have lost all their possessions.

‘Musharraf may be returning to his own grief’

Islamabad, January 26: Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf’s heroics in returning to his country could prove to be another misadventure for him, a Pakistani daily said on Thursday.

Not only half a dozen court cases await Musharraf in Pakistan but all political parties in the Senate have agreed that the former Army chief and president should be arrested on arrival and tried for treason, said a report in Dawn News.

In two cases, courts have proclaimed him a “proclaimed offender”.

Iran won’t move toward nuclear weapon in 2012 – ISIS report

Washington, January 26: Iran is unlikely to move toward building a nuclear weapon this year because it does not yet have the capability to produce enough weapon-grade uranium, a draft report by the Institute for Science and International Security said on Wednesday.

The report by the institute founded by nuclear expert David Albright offered a more temperate view of Iran’s nuclear program than some of the heated rhetoric that has surfaced since the United States and its allies stepped up sanctions on Tehran.

Taliban rocket kills woman, child in Afghanistan

Kabul, January 26: Officials say a rocket fired by Taliban insurgents has killed a woman and her child in eastern Afghanistan.

President Hamid Karzai and NATO’s commander for Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, condemned the insurgents on Thursday for firing the rocket in Kapisa province.

The provincial governor’s chief of staff, Abdul Sabor Wafa, says insurgents fired a mortar round during a battle with Afghan army soldiers trying to clear militants from a stronghold in Alasay district on Wednesday.

Governor laments rising militancy in Meghalaya

Shillong, January 26: Governor R.S. Mooshahary Thursday regretted that militancy was rising in Meghalaya as the scenic state celebrated Republic Day amid a shutdown called by a rebel group.

After unfurling the national flag and taking the salute at a ceremonial parade here, the governor spoke about militancy in the Garo Hills region.

“My government is determined to deal with this threat squarely and to banish the scourge of militancy from the state for good,” he said. “We need to join (hands) and be united to fight such insidious forces.”

‘UPA behind disruption of Rushdie’s address’

Amritsar, January 26: BJP leader Arun Jaitley today accused the Congress-led UPA of being behind the last-minute disruption of author Salman Rushdie’s video address at Jaipur Literature Festival to garner Muslim votes in the five poll-bound states.

Talking to reporters here, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha said the votebank politics of Congress-led UPA had led it to play “a highly questionable role in the entire Rushdie episode” to please fundamentalists.

Militants explode bomb in Imphal

Imphal, January 26: Suspected militants exploded a powerful bomb in the capital complex here on the Republic Day today, but no casualty was reported.

The bomb went off at about 9 a.m. near Shamashakhi School area, police said.

The militants also exploded two powerful bombs in Kakwa area in Imphal West district last night, but none was injured.

Axe murderer eats victim’s brain and eye

Washington, January 26: A man has been arrested in Florida for killing a homeless person from Connecticut and eating some of his victim’s body parts.

The murderer turned up at his cousin’s place after the incident covered in blood. He allegedly claimed that he had consumed the victim’s eyes and brains after killing him with a hatchet.

The killer also said that the eyeball tasted like an oyster.

The cousin told the authorities that the killer had blood on his pants, was carrying an axe and wanted to take a shower to clean himself up.

Stage collapsed: Kishan Reddy fell down

Medak, January 26: BJP president G. Kishan Reddy reached Medak at 10 ‘O’ clock yesterday during his padyatra. The stage erected at Ramdas crossroads fell down when he was showing the sword after finishing his speech.

Mr. Kishan Reddy and three other BJP leaders were injured. They were admitted in a private nursing home. As soon as the stage fell down there was panic among the BJP workers. They started running here and there Mr. Narendra had got off the stage earlier.

CBI wants to conduct narco tests on Vijay S Reddy

Hyderabad, January 26: CBI on Wednesday filed an application in a local court seeking permission to conduct narco-analysis tests on Vijay Sai Reddy, arrested in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Ravindhra Nath, CBI Deputy Legal Adviser, said the application would come up for hearing on January 30.

Vijay Sai Reddy, arrested on January 2, had exclusive knowledge of many issues, and was not cooperating with interrogators, making the investigation difficult, the CBI counsel said.

New Delhi, January 26: An impressive display of armour and unmanned aerial vehicles recently added to India’s military prowess was on full display at the 63rd Republic Day parade today that also showcased the country’s rich heritage.

The early morning chill did not deter people along the 8-km-parade route as they gathered on both sides of the majestic Rajpath, the country’s ceremonial boulevard facing the Raisina Hills, and cheered the contingents as they went past portraying the diverse culture of the country.
