Mogadishu, January 27: Driven from their homes by a killer combination of conflict, drought and hunger, rape is adding to the endless suffering of Somali refugees.

“Three armed men in government uniform came into the camp,” Kadija Mohamed, 36, told AlertNet in Dinsoor camp on Thursday, January 26.

“The strongest one shone a powerful torch in my eyes, he strangled me and then raped me in front of my crying kids,” she said.

The Somali widow said she waited for sunrise before making her way to a nearby clinic only to be told there were no doctors.

Hyderabad, January 27: Maulana Hazrat Naimatullah Qaudri ustad Jamia Nizamia and Mr. Zahid Ali Khan editor Siasat inaugurated a hospital built by the administrative committee at Masjid Osmania Feelkhana Qadeem, Begum Bazaar.

Minor girl kidnapped

Hyderabad, January 27 (Siasat News): Some unidentified abductors kidnapped an 11-year-old girl in Naredmet. The kidnap took place in a Hindi film style.

This morning, Sai Divya, resident of Defence colony and student of class V, was standing near her house along with her mother.

In the meantime, some unidentified persons reached there and asked the address of a temple with Divya’s mother. As Divya moved a little further to guide them, the unidentified persons took the advantage of the situation and kidnapped her.

Nirmal, January 27: In what could be a case of human sacrifice, a 14-year-old boy fell prey to the designs of treasure hunters in Adilabad district. The body of Pasuparthi Ganesh was dug out from a trench in an old fort on the outskirts of Nirmal town on Thursday morning. Two accused, who confessed to murdering the boy for hidden riches, were arrested. Police are looking out for seven others involved in the conspiracy.

Tehran, January 27: A Russian news network says Iran can react to the European Union’s new sanctions on its oil sector by stopping oil exports to EU member states.

The Russia Today reported on Thursday that Iran’s move will be a good response to EU sanctions which have been already slammed by Iran’s close allies like China.

The report quoted Nasser Soudani, a member of Iran Majlis (parliament) Energy Committee, as saying that in reaction to EU measure, Iranian lawmakers are drafting a new law, which would stop oil supply to European countries as soon as possible.

Washington, January 27: A prominent political analyst says US President Barack Obama’s praise of the “courage, selflessness and teamwork” of America’s Armed Forces in his State of the Union address was “sickening and laughable.”

“From beginning to end, Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech was replete with delusion and falsifications,” Finian Cunningham wrote on the Global Research website.

Cunningham added that Obama’s promise of building an “America that lasts” was predicated on a “sentimental, but utterly disingenuous notion of selfless teamwork.”

Kolkata, January 27: Criticising the government for the controversy surrounding Salman Rushdie’s visit to the Jaipur Literature Festival, novelist Vikram Seth on Thursday said the affair was whipped up because of “power”, “politics” and “misuse of religion”.

“The whole affair was whipped up because of power and politics and because of the misuse of religion. And the government did nothing. Frankly this is madness,” he said at the Kolkata Literary Meet here.

Islamabad, January 27: Pakistan’s top leadership greeted their Indian counterparts on the occasion of Republic Day, saying the two sides should work to resolve outstanding issues for the development of their people.

In a message sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan is “fully committed to developing friendly relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect and commonality of interest”.

Madina, January 27: The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has criticized sponsors who search their housemaids before allowing them to return home.

The practice is to ensure maids haven’t stolen any of the families’ valuables or items which can be used in sorcery. The families use women to search the housemaids and make them change clothes just before going on holiday.

New York, January 27: GOOGLE has been savaged by critics after revealing plans to link user data across its email, video, socialnetworking and other services.

In a move denounced by some as a massive invasion of privacy, the changes will piece together information from Gmail to YouTube to the Google Plus social network.

For example, if you spend an hour signed in to a Google account searching the Web for skateboards, the next time you log into YouTube, you might get recommendations for videos featuring Tony Hawk, along with ads for his merchandise and the nearest place to buy them.

Davos, January 27: With HCL Technologies announcing 10,000 jobs for locals in the US and Europe, India Inc Thursday chose the WEF meet to send a strong message that Indian IT firms are creating and not stealing jobs in troubled western economies.

Also, a message emerged from British Prime Minister David Cameron’s advice to the European Union (EU) that instead of being a threat, the emerging economies like India can be of great help to Europe.

Concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India by the year-end would be in Europe’s interest, he said.

Hyderabad, January 27: GHMC has decided not to renew annual licences for hoarding put up at religious places like temples and mosques, graveyards and on drains, lake or river beds once the period is completed later this year. It has also filed an affidavit to this effect in the A.P. High Court.

The municipal corporation appears to be determined to break the designs of vested interests behind hoardings put up in the religious places with the step as part of its overall effort to bring some order into the chaotic advertisement wing.

Lucknow, January 27: BJP’s election manifesto for Uttar Pradesh, with focus on education, health, employment and law and order will be released Friday.

“The manifesto will also give due consideration to problems of farmers, dalits, backwards, poor and unemployed youths,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here yesterday.

New Delhi, January 27: The Cabinet Committee led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet on Friday to take a decision on the continuation of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) project led by Nandan Nilekani.

Today’s meeting comes a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held discussions with senior Cabinet colleagues to resolve the issue amid reports of difference between Home Ministry and Planning Commission over continuation of UIDAI project.

New Delhi, January 27: Condoling the death of noted writer Kartar Singh Duggal, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said the world has lost one of its “most versatile and distinguished personalities”.

“I am deeply grieved to learn of the passing away of the eminent writer Kartar Singh Duggal. In Duggal’s sad demise, the Indian literary and cultural world has lost one of its most distinguished personalities,” Singh said in his condolence message.

Taif, January 27: Shomouk’s father was in Makkah working as a taxi driver when his brother rang to tell him that his daughter died at the hospital. When he got to the hospital, the police told him that his daughter had been murdered by his wife. New Delhi, January 27: The Kepler space telescope science team has confirmed the discovery of 11 star systems piled with 26 exoplanets.

With this latest revelation, the number of known multi-planetary star systems has just tripled and the list of confirmed planets beyond our solar system has doubled.Prior to the Kepler mission, we knew of perhaps 500 exoplanets across the whole sky,” Discovery News quoted Doug Hudgins, Kepler program scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C as saying.

Lucknow, January 27: Election process for the fifth phase of polling in 49 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh would start tomorrow with the issuance of notification by Governor B L Joshi. The polling would be held on February 23 which will cover the sensitive political areas of Samajwadi Party. The phase will cover regions of Bundelkhand and Central UP.

Mumbai, January 27: Actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, who is donning the hat of a director for the sequel of Salman Khan starring blockbuster ‘Dabangg’, says he is not looking to compete with the original movie.

“When I did the first one (‘Dabangg’) my intention was to tell or make a story that I believed in and I was excited about. This is exactly what I am going to take forward..to get excited about the story that I am going to tell and not worry what happened in the past,” he says.

Hyderabad, January 27: (Siasat News) Prof. Kodandaram, President Telangana political JAC demanded the Govt. to alter the design of Metro train project. If the present design is implemented, many historical buildings on this route will get affected which are the heritage of Telangana. The Govt. can alter the plan so that no such building is affected. If this demand is not accepted, Telangana JAC would launch a mass agitation in consultation with the other leaders of the committee in the meeting scheduled to be held today.

Hyderabad, January 27: (Siasat News) Hyderabad City police yesterday arrested Ms. Kavita, President Telangana Jagruthi who was organizing Payatra demanding to install Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Assembly premises. Earlier, she garlanded Dr. Ambedkar’s statue at Tank Bund and started her Padayatra to go to Assembly. Police arrested her and some of her supporters and shifted them to Nampally Police Station.

Meanwhile, speaker of A.P. Assembly Mr. N. Manohar gave an assurance that he would instruct the Govt. for the installation of Dr. Ambedkar’s statute in the premises of Assembly.
