Somali mom raped in front of crying kids

Mogadishu, January 27: Driven from their homes by a killer combination of conflict, drought and hunger, rape is adding to the endless suffering of Somali refugees.

“Three armed men in government uniform came into the camp,” Kadija Mohamed, 36, told AlertNet in Dinsoor camp on Thursday, January 26.

“The strongest one shone a powerful torch in my eyes, he strangled me and then raped me in front of my crying kids,” she said.

The Somali widow said she waited for sunrise before making her way to a nearby clinic only to be told there were no doctors.

Minor girl kidnapped

Hyderabad, January 27 (Siasat News): Some unidentified abductors kidnapped an 11-year-old girl in Naredmet. The kidnap took place in a Hindi film style.

This morning, Sai Divya, resident of Defence colony and student of class V, was standing near her house along with her mother.

In the meantime, some unidentified persons reached there and asked the address of a temple with Divya’s mother. As Divya moved a little further to guide them, the unidentified persons took the advantage of the situation and kidnapped her.

Hidden Treasure: Hyderabadi Boy throttled to death

Nirmal, January 27: In what could be a case of human sacrifice, a 14-year-old boy fell prey to the designs of treasure hunters in Adilabad district. The body of Pasuparthi Ganesh was dug out from a trench in an old fort on the outskirts of Nirmal town on Thursday morning. Two accused, who confessed to murdering the boy for hidden riches, were arrested. Police are looking out for seven others involved in the conspiracy.

‘Iran can turn off oil tap to EU’

Tehran, January 27: A Russian news network says Iran can react to the European Union’s new sanctions on its oil sector by stopping oil exports to EU member states.

The Russia Today reported on Thursday that Iran’s move will be a good response to EU sanctions which have been already slammed by Iran’s close allies like China.

The report quoted Nasser Soudani, a member of Iran Majlis (parliament) Energy Committee, as saying that in reaction to EU measure, Iranian lawmakers are drafting a new law, which would stop oil supply to European countries as soon as possible.

‘Obama’s praise of US army sickening’

Washington, January 27: A prominent political analyst says US President Barack Obama’s praise of the “courage, selflessness and teamwork” of America’s Armed Forces in his State of the Union address was “sickening and laughable.”

“From beginning to end, Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech was replete with delusion and falsifications,” Finian Cunningham wrote on the Global Research website.

Davos, January 27: With HCL Technologies announcing 10,000 jobs for locals in the US and Europe, India Inc Thursday chose the WEF meet to send a strong message that Indian IT firms are creating and not stealing jobs in troubled western economies.

GHMC not to allow hoardings in religious places

Hyderabad, January 27: GHMC has decided not to renew annual licences for hoarding put up at religious places like temples and mosques, graveyards and on drains, lake or river beds once the period is completed later this year. It has also filed an affidavit to this effect in the A.P. High Court.

The municipal corporation appears to be determined to break the designs of vested interests behind hoardings put up in the religious places with the step as part of its overall effort to bring some order into the chaotic advertisement wing.

Cabinet to decide future of UID project

New Delhi, January 27: The Cabinet Committee led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet on Friday to take a decision on the continuation of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) project led by Nandan Nilekani.

11 new solar systems hosting 26 planets discovered

New Delhi, January 27: The Kepler space telescope science team has confirmed the discovery of 11 star systems piled with 26 exoplanets.

Kavita’s Padyatra foiled

Hyderabad, January 27: (Siasat News) Hyderabad City police yesterday arrested Ms. Kavita, President Telangana Jagruthi who was organizing Payatra demanding to install Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Assembly premises. Earlier, she garlanded Dr. Ambedkar’s statue at Tank Bund and started her Padayatra to go to Assembly. Police arrested her and some of her supporters and shifted them to Nampally Police Station.

Meanwhile, speaker of A.P. Assembly Mr. N. Manohar gave an assurance that he would instruct the Govt. for the installation of Dr. Ambedkar’s statute in the premises of Assembly.
