Islamic revolution only solution to all problems

Karachi, January 02: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Syed Munawar Hasan said Sunday that Islamic revolution is the only solution to the problems in the country, saying that all major parties have miserably failed to deliver.

Addressing a big public meeting at Bacha Khan chowk in Karachi, he said that all previous military and civilian governments failed to solve problems of the people and Islamic revolution can get rid of frustration of the masses.

19 teens arrested for trouble at Khobar mall

Dammam, January 02: The Eastern Province Police Friday arrested 19 teenagers for disturbing shoppers and breaking the glass of a gate because they were not allowed to enter a mall in Al-Khobar.
Col. Ziyad Al-Ruqaiti, spokesman of the Eastern Province Police, said: “We received a call that there were some adolescents standing in front of a mall. They had tried to force their way into the mall. We arrested them immediately.”

Emirati mom delivers at 12:01am on 01.01.12

Dubai, January 02: The UAE recorded its first birth in 2012 when an Emirati mother gave birth to a girl in Abu Dhabi just in the first minute of the new year.

Mariam was delivered at the Corniche gynaecology hospital and doctors, quoted by the semi-official daily ‘Al Ittihad’, said she came to life just in the first minute of 2012. Her father said he was very happy to have Mariam.

“I pray to God that the birth of my daughter at such a distinct time and date will always be a good omen for her and her family,” Hamad Al Shamsi said.

Major quake rattles Indonesia’s Sumatra island

Jakarta, January 02: A 5.3-magnitude earthquake rattled the northern tip of Indonesia Monday, geologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of one kilometre around 160 kms southeast of Banda Aceh on Indonesia’s Sumatra island at 2:09 am local time, the US Geological Survey said.

Aceh province is frequently hit by earthquakes and was devastated by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

New Delhi, January 02: In what could be a major embarrassment for Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, an official transcript shows that she did praise Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the National Integration Council (NIC) meeting last September.

According to the transcript of the NIC meeting released by the home ministry on its website, Mehbooba had referred to her meeting with a Muslim businessman from Chennai, who narrated to her his experience during a meeting with Modi seeking solution to his problems to do business in Gujarat.

2014 polls will be a referendum:CM

Hyderabad, January 02: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday said that the 2014 elections would be a referendum on the Congress government’s performance and not just a performance graph for the ruling party.

Interacting with the media at his camp office, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that a detailed plan of action was being readied to meet the requirements of all needy sections of society.

“Our agenda for 2014 elections will be development and welfare. We are reviewing our policies and strategies to promote inclusive growth,” he said.

2G case trial to resume today

New Delhi, January 02: After a week’s break, the trial in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case, involving former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and corporate honchos as accused, will resume on Monday in a Delhi court.

The day-to-day trial in the special court had to be adjourned for a week due to winter break and would continue from tomorrow with Raja questioning his former aide Aseervatham Achary, a key witness in the case.

Achary, who is testifying as seventh prosecution witness, has so far stood by his earlier statements made to the CBI indicting Raja and others.

Jagan Party Not To Contest In Telangana

Hyderabad, January 02: In a surprising development, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday announced that his party would not contest in the Telangana region in the forthcoming by-elections in the state.

In a statement in the evening, Jagan said his party would acknowledge the sentiments of the people of Telangana.

Advisory panel pushes for Muslims’ welfare

New Delhi, January 02: The Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) has asked the government to focus on welfare of minorities in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-13 to 2016-17), a recommendation that comes ahead of the Assembly polls in five states in January-February.

The move follows the government’s December 2011 move to approve a 4.5 percent sub-quota for minorities within the existing 27.5 percent quota for the other backward classes in central jobs and admission to central educational institutions.

AP gets 140 proposals for 3,00,000 Cr investment

Hyderabad, January 02: Andhra Pradesh has received 140 proposals that can fetch Rs 3,00,000 crore investments from industries across sectors; according to industries minister J Geeta Reddy.

The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) has given nod to 24 projects including two in the automotive sector where Mahindra & Mahindra will participate and two in the petrochemical sector of Amerind Petrochemicals (Rs 9,950 crore) and Al Qebla Al Watya (Rs 40,000 crore) in the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Regions (PCPIR) in Visakhapatnam.

Dishonour killing: Youth killed by girl’s brother

Meerut, January 02: In yet another case of honour killing, a youth was killed and his girlfriend left battling for her life after the girl’s brother allegedly shot at the couple on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place in Incholi area near the town here.

While the youth died at the spot, the girl was admitted in a serious condition at a nearby hospital, they said. The deceased has been identified as Devendra, a resident of Maithana village.

Central scheme for rural electrification

Hyderabad, January 02 (INN): The State Government has urged the Centre to sanction free domestic connections to around 20 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) consumers besides electrification of the colonies of marginalised sections under Rajiv Gandhi Grameena Vidyuthikarana Yojana (RGGVY).

The state has also permitted for mobilisation of funds to a tune of Rs 4,000 crores through power bonds, the Energy Secretary, Dinesh Kumar said in a press release here on Sunday.

Malnourished tribal kids used as guinea pigs in MP

Bhopal, January 02: The malnourished children in tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh were subjected to drug trials by doctors at their clinics in defiance of set norms.

Documents accessed by DNA reveal that 20 malnourished children who suffered tuberculosis were tested for Bonnisan – an ayurvedic drug manufactured by Indian pharmaceutical company – at Nainpur in Mandla district. All the patients were in infancy or early childhood. Their age ranged from 8 months to 2½ years. The average age of children came to around 19 months.

Docs advise Anna not to fast for at least 1 month

Pune, January 02: The health of Anna Hazare, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Pune after suffering from viral infection, is improving. However, doctors attending him said on Sunday that Hazare will need to remain in hospital for a week. The doctors have also advised him not to go on fast for at least one month.

“I am not as unwell as people may think. My condition has improved. I will get better soon, please do not worry about my health,” Hazare said.
After examining him, the doctors said they have advised Hazare not to fast at least for the next one month.

BJP would rather see nation fail than govt succeed: Bansal

New Delhi, January 02: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal criticised the BJP on Sunday over its stand on the Lokpal Bill. He said the Opposition party could rather see the country fail than the government succeed.

He said the criticism over conducting the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha was motivated criticism. Bansal was in the city in connection with the Mayoral elections in the Municipal Corporation.

Eight killed in Hyderabad on New Year’s Day

Hyderabad, January 01: At least eight people were killed on New Year’s Day in accidents in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

Four revellers were killed and another critically injured when the motorcycle they were riding fell in a drain after hitting a road divider in Secunderabad here early Sunday.

The youngsters were returning home after participating in New Year celebrations.

As all the five were riding one bike, it lost control, hit the road divider and fell into a nearby drain, police said.
