NY officials condemn mosque raid

New York, January 03: New York officials have condemned attacks on a Shia Islamic center and two nearby houses in the city, saying an investigation is being conducted into the incident.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Monday that the assaults “stand in stark contrast to the New York City of today that we’ve built together.”

“Personnel from the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit and the 103rd Precinct’s Detective Squad are moving at full steam to investigate and also determine if there are any connections to incidents outside New York City,” Bloomberg added.

Hyderabad, January 03: A function will be held on 6th January 2012 to distribute compensation to the innocent Muslim youths affected after Makkah Masjid bomb blast. Mr. Syed Mohammed Ahmedullah, Minister for Minorities Welfare will preside over the function. Mr. N. Dead body fished out from Hussein Sagar

Hyderabad, January 3 (Siasat News): Police has fished out a dead body from Hussein Sagar but it remained unidentified so far.

According to Ramgopalpet police, the age of the deceased was around 55 years wearing wheatish shirt and purple pant.

It is shifted to Gandhi hospital mortuary for identification. Further investigations are on.

RQA-170’s design confirms US ill intent

Tehran, January 03: Iran’s former Defense Minister says sensors used in a US RQ-170 spy drone, which was recently captured in eastern Iran, clearly prove that it had been designed to violate the country’s airspace.

Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said if the drone was meant to carry out spy missions along the Afghan border, it must have only carried photographic sensors because it would not need a monitoring system as well as thermal and spectrometer sensors which have been found in RQ-170.

High Court clears Group-I interviews

Hyderabad, January 03 (INN): The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday gave clearance to the Andhra Pradesh State Public Service Commission to conduct interviews for the successful candidates of Group-I exams held last year as per schedule from January 4-10.

Earlier, the interviews were stayed by the Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal following a petition by some Telugu medium candidates who alleged irregularities. The Tribunal had also asked the APPSC to file a counter petition by January 20. However, the APPSC approached the High Court challenging the stay.

US army expert arrested with explosives

Texas, January 03: US military officials say the man who was apprehended on New Year’s Eve at a Texas airport while carrying explosives is an army demolition expert.

The officials said Trey Scott Atwater is a member of the so-called elite Green Berets who served in Afghanistan and is now stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Atwater was detained on Saturday after a security agent noticed he had explosives in his luggage while trying to board a flight at Midland International Airport.

The discovery prompted authorities to close the airport terminal for an hour.

Mosque demolition: Chinese Muslims fight cops

Beijing, January 03: Hundreds of Muslims fought with armed police who demolished a mosque in China’s northwest, local police and a human rights group said on Monday, with several people injured in the “riot”.

The violence between local Muslims and roughly 1,000 armed police began after police declared illegal a newly built mosque in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and moved to destroy it, the Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy, in Hong Kong, said.

Tortured Afghan girl to be treated in India

Kabul, January 03: A 15-year-old Afghan girl severely tortured for months by her in-laws in an attempt to force her into prostitution will be sent to India for medical treatment, an Afghan official said Monday.

Sahar Gul’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law were arrested and her husband was being sought, said Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi. The case has shocked Afghanistan, though rights activists say serious abuses against women and girls in the conservative society are common. President Hamid Karzai has said that whoever used violence against Gul will be punished.

No golf play at Golconda

Hyderabad, Janaury 03: A group of 20 odd people were taken into custody by the Golconda police when they protested against what was called the ‘destruction of heritage monument’ at Golconda’s Naya Quila area which is allocated by the government for Golf course project.

Social activist Dr Jasveen Jairath of Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), who had called for the protest at the very site at Naya Quila, along with other activists were arrested in a few minutes from start of the programme.

Student steals cars for GF

New Delhi, January 03: A Delhi University student and his associate — a law student — have been arrested by the south district police for allegedly stealing sedans to woo their girlfriends and finance their lavish lifestyle.

Acting on a tip- off, police officers from the Neb Sarai police station in South Delhi laid a trap and caught Akshay ( 19) and Nitin ( 21) in a Honda City car. The duo failed to produce the papers of the car and on interrogation it was found the car had been stolen, the police said. The auto- match system further revealed it had been stolen from Malviya Nagar.

Saudi father puts up son for sale on facebook for $20m

Riyadh, January 03: A Saudi man put up his son for sale on facebook for a whopping $20 million (Dh73.4m) to beat poverty.

According to ‘Al Sharq’ newspaper, Saud bin Nasser Al Shahry took the extreme step when all doors closed on him. His business of collecting debts and settling disputes had to be shut down following a court ruling, which stated it was not a legal firm, he alleged.
