Defence review to enhance U.S. leadership in changing world

Washington, January 06: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the new Defence Strategic Review document that calls for a small and lean American Army and a strong presence in the Asia Pacific region along with better ties with India will enhance country’s leadership in a new world order.

“This new guidance is a critical element in our integrated approach to strengthening American leadership in a changing world. It enhances the capabilities and relationships we need to lead and meet our responsibilities for years to come,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.

Pranab calls for top priority to India-Saudi investment fund

New Delhi, January 06: With India eyeing an investment of nearly $1 trillion over the next 5-7 years, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee pitches for focussing on the proposed $ 750-million fund to be set up in cooperation with Saudi Arabia for development of infrastructure, promotion of joint exploration and production of hydrocarbons.

BSF goes digital; Chidambaram inaugurates e-office project

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday inaugurated a Rs. 229- crore e-office project for the Border Security Force (BSF) aimed at providing easy online access to personnel and administrative works.

The Intranet Prahari Project (IPP) has been extended up to 237 locations of the BSF and will benefit about 1.98 lakh personnel of the force.

Prof. Shameem Jairajpuri honoured with lifetime achievement award

Hyderabad, January 6: Prof. Mohammad Shameem Jairajpuri, first vice chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University and Honorary Scientist INSA in Zoology at the Aligarh Muslim University has been honoured with life time achievement award in recognition for his 50 year research services in Helminthology.

Prof. Jairajpuri has been awarded by Zoological society of India in 22nd All India Congress of Zoology held in Lucknow.

Vice chancellor Lucknow university Prof. M K Misra gave away the award. On the occasion Prof. Jairajpuri delivered lecture on “Nematode for human welfare”.

TRS’ bandh against Naidu’s proposed yatra

Warangal, January 06: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has called for a bandh on Friday in protest against TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu’s “Rythu Poru Bata” (farmers struggle) in the district.

The Joint Action Committee of Telangana and BJP also supported the bandh call and appealed people to observe bandh.

Meanwhile, 1500 Telangana protagonists including BJP leaders have been taken into preventive custody by the police in view of the proposed yatra of the TDP chief.

TDP steps up attack on KCR

Hyderabad, January 06: Telugu Desam Party on Thursday stepped up its attack on Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao alleging was an “integrationist to the core” and was leading the movement for a separate Telangana state only to benefit his family.

TDP Telangana Forum leader Motkupalli Narasimhulu exhibited video footage of KCR’s speech in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1996 as the then Transport Minister wherein he spoke in favour of a unified state by abolishing the zonal system and the six-point formula.

Destitute Muslim dead bodies buried

Hyderabad, January 06: On receipt of letter from Superintendent, Osmania General Hospital, Mr. Amer Ali Khan, News Editor, Siasat made arrangements for the burial of destitute Muslim’s dead bodies at the graveyard adjacent to Takia Amanullah Shah. Ms. Sana Fatima’s parents slipped away to Nagpur after admitting her in the hospital. She died here. Eight dead bodies from Afzal Gunj, two from Nampally, three from Kacheguda, one from Chandrayangutta police stations were received for burial. Funeral prayer was offered by Mufti Shakeel Ahmed Rahmani.

Review of Minorities Welfare schemes by minister

Hyderabad, January 06: Mr. Syed Mohammed Ahmedullah Minister for Minorities Welfare convened a meeting to review the implementation of Minorities Welfare Schemes yesterday in his chamber yesterday evening.

He instructed the heads of all the institutions to implement these schemes successfully so that no funds are left out without spending. These funds should reach the beneficiaries without any complaint.

He also instructed the officials to prepare next year’s budge keeping in mind the overall development of Minorities.

Minorities 4.5% reservations challenged in High Court

Hyderabad, January 06: R. Krishnaiah, President B.C. Welfare Association challenged the 4.5% reservation given to Minorities by the Central Govt. Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar accepted the petition for hearing and issued notices to State and Central Govts.

The petition is posted for hearing on 23 January 2012. The court said that all the appointments made and admissions given in educational institutions will be subject to court decision.

Taliban dump 15 naked bodies of Pak security men

Islamabad, January 06: The Taliban on Wednesday dumped 15 naked bodies of Pakistani paramilitary frontier constabulary personnel kidnapped two weeks ago in a north western town, signalling that some militant factions may have spurned peace talks with the government.

“The naked bodies were found in a field near the mountains,” senior police and army officers were quoted as saying by the TV channels.

Aarushi murder: SC to hear Talwars’ plea

New Delhi, January 06: The Supreme Court will on Friday hear the petition moved by Dr Rajesh and Nupur Talwar challenging a Ghaziabad court’s summons issued to them in connection with the murder case of their daughter Aarushi Talwar and their domestic help Hemraj.

Aarushi was found dead inside her Noida residence in May 2008 with her throat slit. The body of Hemraj was recovered a day later from the terrace. The Talwars – both dentists – were home when 13-year-old Aarushi was killed in her bedroom.

Ram Sene men held for bid to hoist Pakistani flag

Bangalore, January 06: SIX ACTIVISTS of the right- wing Sri Ram Sene, who had planned to spark communal violence in the north Karnataka town of Sindhagi by hoisting the Pakistani flag on the mini Vidhan Soudha premises, are now lodged behind bars.

Tension in Warangal, leaders held; JAC gives bandh call

HC asks CBI to probe police torture

Thota Gopala Krishna passes away

Hyderabad, January 06 (INN): Former MP Thota Gopala Krishna passed away here on Thursday. He was 65.

Gopala Krishna was first admitted at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences for by-pass surgery after he suffered a heart attack last week in Kakinada. He was later shifted to Care Hospital in the city where he died on Thursday while undergoing treatment.

Thota Gopala Krishna was survived by wife, one son and a daughter.
