Miracle birth from murdered mother

Madrid, October 01: Spanish doctors cared for a new-born boy delivered by emergency workers after a deranged gunman shot and killed his expectant mother in a church, officials said.

A medical worker said she decided “in just seconds” to deliver the baby inside the Madrid church by emergency caesarian after failing to save the life of the 36-year-old mother.

The team had to resuscitate the boy because his heart had stopped but it was too early to know whether he had suffered any brain damage, she added.

DTC buses collide, 17 injured

New Delhi, October 01: At least 17 passengers were injured when two Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses collided here Saturday, police said.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Outer Ring Road in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area.

‘Both the buses were heading towards Nehru Place. A bus running on route No. 442 was just ahead of another bus on route No. 568, when suddenly it was hit by the second bus.’

‘In the resulting jolt, a total of 17 passengers sustained bruises,’ a police officer said.

Senior Haqqani Leader Captured in Afghanistan

Kabul, October 01: NATO-led forces said on Saturday that they had captured the senior commander for the Haqqani network in Afghanistan, Haji Mali Khan, during an operation in eastern Paktia province earlier in the week.

Khan is “the uncle of Siraj and Badruddin Haqqani … one of the highest ranking members of the Haqqani network and a revered elder of the Haqqani clan,” the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

Siraj, or Sirajuddin, Haqqani and his brother, Badruddin, are sons of veteran Afghan militant commander Jalaluddin Haqqani.

Don’t delay decision on Telangana, Karat urges PM

New Delhi, October 01: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Saturday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take a decision on the Telanagana issue immediately.

‘Procrastination will only worsen the situation. I would urge you to see that a decision is taken on the matter without any further delay,’ said Karat said in a letter, which was released to the media.

The CPI-M leader noted that for the past three weeks, the Telengana region has been paralysed by the agitation of the people demanding a separate state.

New Delhi. October 01: The CPI(M) on Saturday demanded immediate release of senior Gujarat police officer Sanjiv Bhatt, saying his arrest on “concocted” charges showed how the Narendra Modi government was trying to cover up its involvement in the 2002 communal incidents.

The party Politburo maintained that Bhatt had “told the truth about the connivance of the Chief Minister and the state administration in the communal violence against the minorities in 2002” and filed an affidavit on the matter before the Supreme Court.

Hyderabad, October 01: Andhra Pradesh’s Infrastructure Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy Saturday resigned to protest the delay of the Congress leadership in taking a clear decision for formation of a separate Telangana state.

Venkata Reddy, who hails from Nalgonda district of Telangana region, met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation as minister.

He later also submitted his resignation as member of the state assembly. Another Congress legislator C. Lingaiah also resigned.

Bomb blast kills 5 Pakistani policemen

Islamabad, September 01: The incident took place on Saturday near a police van in Toor Ghar area of the town of Mansehra.

The policemen, recently recruited, were heading to a training center.

No group has taken responsibility for the attack.

Security forces cordoned off the area and the injured were shifted to a local hospital.

The death toll is expected to rise as some of the wounded are said to be in critical conditions.

Violence has been on the rise in northwestern parts of Pakistan where the government has launched an offensive against pro-Taliban militants.

Hardoi,October 01:Yoga guru Ramdev has said that had he not fled from the Ramlila ground in Delhi during the police crackdown in the wee hours on June 5, he too would have met the same fate as Rajbala.

In reply to a question from one of his followers in Hardoi on Friday, Ramdev claimed he would have been killed had he not fled from the Ramlila maidan.

“I would not have been here among you had I not fled that day,” he said. Ramdev is currently undertaking a ‘Swabhiman Yatra’ and is touring various districts of Uttar Pradesh.
