KCR to fast at Rajghat today

New Delhi, September 02: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao will sit on a fast at Rajghat on Sunday as a mark of protest over the crisis over separate statehood.

The Andhra Pradesh leader is also likely to meet Central leaders in New Delhi.

The Telangana agitation has meanwhile entered its 20th day on Sunday as the government is yet to find a solution for the deadlock over the issue.

Bhatt’s Arrest “Naked Dictatorship” Of BJP In Gujarat : Cong

New Delhi, October 02: Congress today condemned the raid by Gujarat police on arrested IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt’s house alleging BJP’s “naked dictatorship” is visible in the state.

“Why is it that this officer is being targeted shortly after he the blew whistle about Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his government’s doings in Gujarat. BJP’s naked dictatorship is visible in Gujarat”, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters adding the charge against Bhatt was “laughable”.

Lucknow, October 02: Going full throttle to woo SC and ST voters, Chief Minister Mayawati today (Oct 1) wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding increase in quota for them as per their population and job reservation in the private sector and the judiciary.

In her latest missive to Singh, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister contended there has been an increase in the population of these communities but the quota has remained static, making it difficult to provide facilities to them.

Group-II exams on Oct 15, 16

Hyderabad, October 02: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission on Saturday informed that the Group-II Services examination will be held October 15 and 16, as per schedule.

The APPSC is making the necessary arrangements to conduct the examination across the State. The Hall Tickets are placed in the Commission’s Web-site: www.apspsc.gov.in for down-loading by the eligible aspirants from October 2 onwards. The rejected candidates’ lists are also made available for information of the candidates.

Govt denies salary to T staff on strike

Hyderabad, October 02: Around 5.70 lakh out of 10.32 lakh State Government employees have been denied their September month salaries.

The 12-day emoluments for September have not been paid, so far, to the Telangana employees joined the Sakala Janulu Samme or the people’s general strike from September 13. But back in Secretariat all most all have received their pay and about 16 to 17 personnel from the Information and Public Relations Department were not paid.

Nagarjuna booked for abusing woman journalist

Hyderabad, October 02: Leading Telugu actor Nagarjuna was on Saturday booked on charges of abusing a woman journalist and for criminal intimidation, police said.

The Jubilee Hills Police registered a case against Akkineni Nagarjuna, based on a complaint filed by Y Sunita Chowdhary, who alleged that the actor had used “filthy and vulgar” language against her and had even threatened to kill her when she met him during the film shooting of ‘Damarukam’ on September 29.

Man raped in footpath attack

Hampshire, October 02: A man was raped after being attacked on a footpath in Southampton.

The incident happened near the Clover Nook Flats, off Old Redbridge Road, at about 05:00 BST.

The 22-year-old was walking along a footpath when he was approached by a male stranger who raped him before running away, police said.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in tall with short hair and wore a white T-shirt, blue jeans and white trainers. He also had a tribal tattoo.

Officers carried out house-to-house inquiries earlier and sealed the area off for forensic investigation.

CAG should revise 2G findings: Congress

New Delhi, October 01: Amid reports that the CAG had overruled its own official on 2G loss calculation, Congress on Saturday said if the government auditor had the slightest doubt about its findings, it should revise the same.

“We are not here to debunk the figures. But certainly, if the figures are notional it deserves to have a very serious look and it behoves for an institution like the CAG to itself revise it estimates if it has the slightest doubt about it,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

UPA seeks more time for decision on Telangana

New Delhi, October 01: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government Saturday said it was aware of the ‘gravity’ of the ongoing agitation for a separate state in Telangana but needs ‘some more time’ to find a solution to the vexed issue.

‘We are aware of the gravity of the situation. We are in the process of consultations. We need some more time and further consultations,’ Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters here, a day after Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also the party in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, submitted a report on the issue to party chief Sonia Gandhi.

2G row: Pranab’s remark misleading, says Swamy

Lucknow, October 01: Janata Party president Subramanium Swamy on Sunday said Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s assertion that he was not in the know of the ministry’s March 2011 note was “misleading the people”.

The note being mentioned is actually an “office memorandum” which is not prepared without the assent of the minister concerned, he said.

Terming 2G spectrum as a “test case”, Swamy said the “exposures” in it and action taken thereafter against the accused have proved that the prevailing laws were effective enough to deal with corruption.

CPI for CBI probe into PC’s role in 2G scam

New Delhi, October 01: The CPI on Sunday demanded a CBI probe into the role of Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum licensing issue, but unlike CPI(M), did not seek his resignation.

Maintaining that the latest disclosures on the 2G scam “warrant an investigation” into Chidambaram’s role, the party said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also “cannot escape his accountability to the nation by taking offensive against the media and the Opposition and trying to find hidden hands to destabilise his Government.”

Congress, BJP wrangle over Bhatt’s arrest

New Delhi, October 01: The Congress Saturday defended the arrested Indian Police Service Gujarat officer Sanjiv Bhatt saying he is being ‘victimized’ while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) justified his arrest for allegedly threatening a policeman.

‘Bhatt is being victimised. His premises are being raided again and again. There is no law and order in Gujarat,’ said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Bhatt’s arrest Friday for allegedly making the policeman sign a false affidavit.
