Mumbai, October 03: Mumbai Mirror has revealed how Bollywood star Katrina Kaif got her surname Kaif. It’s none other than the cricketer Mohammed Kaif. While Mohammed Kaif is now on the sidelines of cricket, unnoticed, Katrina has zoomed to become the lucky mascot of Bollywood films, the latest being Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

This was revealed by Ayesha Shroff, the producer of Kaizad Gustad’s film Boom – the film that launched Katrina in Bollywood.

Police begin investigations against Nagarjuna

Hyderabad, October 02: Hyderabad police Saturday began investigations against leading Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, who was booked for allegedly abusing a woman journalist and for criminal intimidation.

Police sources said the the police may question the actor and also record the statement of Y. Sunita Chowdhary, who lodged a complaint against him.

A case under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code was booked against Nagarjuna on Saturday at Jubliee Hills police station.

Indians rank top in unprotected sex: Survey

Mumbai, October 02: As many as 72 percent of sexually active young people across the country have had sex with new partner without any protection, an international survey says.

A full 40 percent of the youth polled in India say they had problems accessing contraceptives when they needed, 36 percent said they knew a close friend/ family member who has had an unplanned pregnancy.

Nearly a one-third got wrong information about contraception from friends.

New Delhi, October 02: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will look into the grievances of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, an organisation of Muslim scholars, if any, a secretariat meeting of the IUML decided here on Sunday.

School topper gang raped in Pakistan

Islamabad, October 02: A girl who topped the class 10 examination was gang raped in Lahore, a media report said.

Two men gang raped the teenager in Shahkot area of Lahore, reported Geo News.

The men had called out the girl, who topped in Secondary School Certificate exam, from her institute on the pretext of her mother’s illness.

They then gang raped her.

The victim was in trauma and not able to record her statement before the police, the news report said.

Bhopal, October 02: Saba, the elder daughter of the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has become the first woman to head the Awqaf-e-Shahi, becoming the patron of Waqf properties in Bhopal and abroad worth over Rs.300 crore, an official said Sunday.

Saba officially took charge of as Mutawali or patron of Waqf properties spread out from Bhopal, including Bhopal’s picturesque Jama Masjid, to Saudi Arabia.

Ssaba was named the naib-mutawalli (deputy patron) by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 2008.

Women think more about food than sex: Study

London, October 02: More than 50 percent of women in a study confessed that they thought about food more than sex.

Ten percent of those surveyed by the weight loss company Atkins, revealed they would feel guiltier straying from their diet than being unfaithful to their partner.

The most common reason for women in Britain to start a diet is trying to attain “the perfect beach body”, while one in seven said they were motivated by cruel taunts over their weight, Daily Mail reported Saturday.

New Delhi, October 02: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has said he has no desire to hold any post as it would then not be possible for him to continue with the work he is doing at present.

Foreign funds investments in September at $6.97 mn

Mumbai, Octber 02:With Indian markets trading volatile for most of September, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold in droves and net investments from overseas funds in the month stood at a paltry $6.97 million.

FIIs were bearish in August and had pulled out $2.48 billion. According to data available with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), overseas funds participation in Indian stock markets is now at a low $51.3 million.

Data available for the four trading days of last week showed net FII outflows at $372.92 million.

2.5 mn Pakistanis need flood aid

Islamabad, Octber 02:Over 2.5 million people affected by floods in Pakistan are in desperate need of food, drinking water and sanitation facilities, the UN has said.

According to Humaira Mehboob, an official of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), about 1.75 million people also require emergency shelter.

The country’s southern Sindh province has been devastated by floods since mid-August due to incessant rains.

Lahore dengue toll rises to 127

Islamabad, Octber 02:The toll in the dengue outbreak in Pakistan’s Lahore city Sunday rose to 127 after three more people succumbed to the disease, a media report said.

According to the Punjab health department, more than 12,000 cases of dengue were reported in the province, of which over 11,240 cases were recorded in Lahore, the provincial capital. So far 139 people died of dengue in the province.

Currently, 1,649 dengue patients are under treatment in different hospitals in Punjab, Geo TV reported.
