Hyderabad, October 03: Brand Hyderabad has taken a beating with the ongoing turmoil for separate statehood to Telangana continuing to impact the information technology (IT) sector and new investments in this technology hub.

As the buses of state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) have remained off the roads for the past three weeks and the frequent protests have affected local trains, the IT firms are reporting a low employee turnout.

The business process outsourcing and call centres that operate round-the-clock are the worst-hit.

Lovers end life in Shivrampally

Hyderabad, October 3 (Siasat News): Lovers committed suicide in the suburban area of Shivrampally. Police recovered their dead bodies from a pond. Police suspected that the duo might have jumped into the pond two days ago.

Inspector Shivrampally, Mr. Uma Maheshwar said that duo Ramesh and Jyothi Reddy were the residents of wambe colony, Laxmiguda. Both were in love since last three years and have decided to get married.

CM to bid farewell to 3rd batch of Hajj pilgrims

Hyderabad, October 3: Chief Minister Mr. N Kiran Kumar Reddy will bid farewell to the 3rd batch of Hajj pilgrims at 12 noon on October 3 from Hajj camp Nampally. The batch is comprised of 200 Hajj pilgrims. The pilgrims will leave for Jeddah in the state of ‘Ihram’. Two batches will be leaving for Hajj on October 3. The second batch will leave from Hajj house at 11:30 pm.

US says Israel increasingly isolated

Washington, October 03: US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the Israeli regime is becoming increasingly isolated following the recent popular uprisings in the Middle East.

“It’s pretty clear at this dramatic time in the Middle East when there have been so many changes; that it is not a good situation for Israel to become increasingly isolated. And that is what has happened,” Panetta was quoted as saying by Reuters on Monday.

The American military chief made the remarks on an aircraft ahead of an official visit to Tel Aviv.

Relatives create havoc as patient dies in hospital

Hyderabad, October 3: Relatives of a patient who died in hospital created havoc at the hospital situated at Shalibanda road Moghalpura. It is said that 42 year old Farooq resident of Eidi Bazar was suffering from Kidney ailment. He was shifted to the hospital yesterday night where he died. Farooq’s relatives, blaming the doctors for negligence, created havoc and demanded action against the doctors culpable for death.

Sonia makes first public appearance post-surgery

New Delhi, October 03: After undergoing surgery for an aliment over a month ago, Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday made her first public appearance when she attended a prayer meeting at Rajghat on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 142nd birth anniversary.

Ms. Gandhi, 64, was there for about 15-20 minutes at the memorial along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior BJP leader L. K. Advani.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Urban Development Minister Kamalnath were also present at the memorial among others.

The Dubai Prosecution accused MMA, 35, abra captain, and JAA, 24, cleaner, of forging work visas that they claimed they got from the Dubai Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department.

Al Qaeda deaths hurt plans for attacks: Panetta

Washington, October 03: US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said on Monday that the deaths of several top al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan and Yemen in recent months will make it much more difficult for the terror group and its affiliates to plan and launch large-scale attacks abroad, including against the United States.

Panetta said increased cooperation with Yemen against the al Qaeda affiliate there will not diminish if President Ali Abdullah Saleh leaves power as the US and others have urged.

Ruckus in J&K Assembly over custodial death

Srinagar, October 03: After mikes, chairs, the decorum in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly hit a new low on Monday after Opposition MLAs and the Speaker abused each other, following which an MLA tried to hurl a fan towards the Chair.

The Opposition PDP is up in arms against the government over the alleged custodial death of National Conference (NC) worker Sayeed Muhammad Yousuf.

Yousuf has been accused of taking a bribe of Rs 1.18 crore from two middle-rung NC leaders in return for getting one of them a ministerial berth and the other a legislator’s job.

Now buses denied entry into Telangana

Hyderabad, October 03: Hundreds of passengers were stranded Monday as buses coming from coastal Andhra towards Hyderabad were stopped at the border of the Telangana region in view of threats from groups fighting for a separate Telangana state.

Over 50 private buses coming to Hyderabad from Vijayawada, about 300 km from here, and other towns in coastal Andhra were stopped by authorities at Garikapadu checkpost on the border between Krishna and Nalgonda districts.

Inter student sets herself ablaze for T cause

Hyderabad, October 03: Despite a series of appeals from political leaders, suicides for Telangana cause are continuing. An 18-year-old Intermediate student immolated herself for the separate state cause at her house in Hayatnagar.

The victim was identified as D Bhavani, an Intermediate first year student of Navodaya Junior College in Nagole. According to police, Bhavani, who was an active participant in Telangana movement, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her house in Upparaguda of Hayatnagar on Sunday morning.

Darsgah-e-Jihad centre raided

Hyderabad, October 03: After ignoring the existence of Darsgah-e-Jihad wa Shahadat (DJS) for several months, the city police suddenly woke up to its alleged threat to the society and raided the DJS training centre at Purani Haveli late on Thursday night.

According to sources, the police arrested a member of the DJS, Mohammed Bin Omar, from the centre and seized sticks and karate apparels from his possession.

Four killed in Brazil plane crash

Rio De Janeiro, October 03: Four people were killed in Brazil when a small plane they were travelling by crashed into a farm in the Sao Paulo state, Xinhua reported on Sunday. The accident occurred late Saturday evening.

According to a spokesman for the Sao Paulo fire department, the deceased comprised the pilot, his daughter,18, his son,12, and a female companion. All died on the spot but their bodies could be recovered Sunday.

Cash-for-vote: Amar Singh moves HC for bail

New Delhi, October 03: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, an accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote case, Monday moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail.

Singh moved the high court after his interim and regular bail pleas were rejected on September 28 by a Delhi court which had said his role was “major” in the entire episode aimed at “disgracing” parliamentary democracy.

Hike in water tariff soon

Hyderabad, October 03: The consumers are in for a shock as the state government has agreed to increase water tariff. The government would issue necessary orders soon in this regard. The hike ranges between 25 to 50 percent and will be levied on all types of consumers. The hike will help generate Rs 15 to 20 crore per month which would sustain the Water Board in the long-run, according to officials.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is also the chairman of the water board, gave his nod for increasing water tariff for all categories including domestic consumers.

108 strike called off; services back on track

Hyderabd, October 03: Much to the relief of the people of the state, employees of GVKEMRI called off their strike on Sunday with the management agreeing to several of their demands.

The 4,000-odd employees will resume duties from Monday and 715 ambulances spanning 23 districts will be in operation right from the morning.

The management agreed to increase the salaries by 6 per cent with effect from this month for the remainder of the current financial year.

Plan panel to clarify on poverty cut-offs

New Delhi, October 03: A day after he met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Monday, is expected to clear the stance of the plan panel on its affidavit in the Supreme Court defining poverty line cut-offs.

The affidavit said that poverty line for urban and rural areas could be provisionally placed at Rs 965 per capita per month (about Rs 32 per day) for urban areas and Rs 781 per capita per month (about Rs 26 per day) for rural areas.

1st woman jawan in India Army

New Delhi, October 03: Outperforming her male counterparts in the physical tests, 35-year-old Sapper Shanti Tigga joined the 969 Railway Engineer Regiment of the Territorial Army . A mother of two, she is the first woman jawan.

“Women are allowed to join the armed forces only as officers in the non-combat units. But Tigga has earned the distinction of being the first lady jawan in the 1.3 million strong defence forces,” a senior army officer said.
