Amethi,October 04 : Supporters of India’s anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has started a fresh campaign by targeting Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi constituencies in Amethi to garner support for the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Hazare supporters initiated a survey to determine the vote bank for Gandhi and the Congress party, during the next general elections, in case the Congress Party fails to pass the people’s Ombudsman Bill in the Parliament.

Hyderabad,October 04 :As the indefinite strike by all sections of Telangana people completed three weeks on Monday, with no signs of any decision by the Centre on the demand for a separate Telangana state, the border between Andhra and Telangana region in Nalgonda district looked like a battle zone. Angry Telangana agitators went on a rampage against private buses coming from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, shattering the glass-panes of more than 20 buses in heavy stone-pelting.

Man arrested for looting 4000 Investors

New Delhi, October 04 : A 58-year-old man was arrested here for cheating around 4,000 people across India by inducing them to make investments in his company, police said Monday.

Akhtar Ansari, resident of Pant Nagar in south Delhi, was arrested Sunday, Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhry said, adding they had received a total of 465 complaints against him already and more were coming in.

Ansari created a website of ‘Anjak Overseas’, which claimed that his family ‘has been a major business group in British Colombia (Canada) for 30 years’.

Boy shot dead as friend uses real pistol as toy

New Delhi, October 04: A 10-year-old boy was accidentally shot dead by his 12-year-old neighbour with a firearm while they were playing cop and thief in west Delhi, police said Monday.

Chandan, a Class 6 student, was shot dead Saturday night in Raghubir Nagar by his friend, police said.

Chandan’s friend has been sent to an observation home and his father Ram Chander and another person have been arrested, police said.

Somali pirates given life sentence in US

Washington, October 04: Two Somali pirates were awarded life in prison by a US court Monday for hijacking and killing two American couples on the high seas, Xinhua reported.

A federal judge sentenced 30-year-old Muhidin Salad Omar and Mahdi Jama Mohamed, who was believed to be 23 or 24 years old, to life in prison for their roles in the hijacking and later death of four Americans, said Neil MacBride, US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Omar and Mohamed were members of a pirate group that kidnapped a US boat in February.

KCR hints at going on fast unto death

New Delhi, October 04: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday failed to break the deadlock over the Telangana issue.

The efforts by the Congress to buy time also suffered a jolt as activists and Telangana Rashtra Samithi said that they would intensify the stir.

TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao rejected the Prime Minister’s appeal to call off the agitation.

Expressing dissatisfaction over his meeting with the Prime Minister, the TRS chief hinted at the possibility of going on a fast unto death.

Mumbai Police Stops Deepika’s Housewarming Party

Mumbai, October 04: Bollywood star Deepika Padukone’s housewarming party witnessed the presence of a large number of stars and the fun was going on at full blast late into the night, when policemen walked in.

Deepika did not realise the music that was playing was too loud for her neighbours.

Talking to a source, an eyewitness said, “A police patrolling van stopped outside the building around 3:15 AM. An officer went to Padukone’s flat on the 26th floor. Local residents had called up the police control room complaining of loud music.”

CM asks Transco to save standing crops

Hyderabad, October 04: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the transport department to see that more contract and private buses ply on the roads immediately.

The Chief Minister said that at least 1000 contract buses should ply on the roads to help the common people, particularly in view of the ensuing festive season. The officials informed that RTC is plying 500 buses already in the city. This is in addition to the 650 contract and private buses being operated between Hyderabad and other important cities like Bangalore, Nagpur, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam etc.

New Libya to be run based on Islam: NTC

Tripoli, October 04: After naming a new Cabinet, the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) leaders say Islam will be the main source of legislation in new Libya.

Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, the head of the NTC, and Mahmoud Jbiril, the head of the executive office of the NTC, made the announcement on Monday at a joint press conference in the eastern city of Benghazi, AP reported.

Abdel-Jalil said that as a majority of Libyans are moderate Muslims they would reject the existence of any extremist factions in the interim government.

No dowry, woman becomes prostitute

Sirsa/Haryana, October 04: A man and his parents allegedly forced a woman into prostitution after they were denied a car as dowry. The entire family has been booked over harassment for dowry case.

The victim, who is a resident of Abubshahar village in Haryana, married a man living in Pilibanga Tehsil in Rajasthan. It has been reported that her in-laws and husband used to torture her for a car.

The victim’s family refused to fulfill her in-laws’ demands. After the refusal, the woman reportedly was being kept in a house in Jaipur and was forced to spend time with other men.

Farmers demand minister’s dismissal

Hyderabad, October 04: A farmers’ delegation from Mahabubnagar district on Monday demanded the dismissal of Textiles and Handlooms Minister P Shankar Rao from the Cabinet alleging that he occupied government lands.

A representation to this effect was submitted to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy here at his camp office by the farmers from Mamidipally village in Kothuru mandal in Mahaboobnagar district. They alleged that Dr Shankar Rao encroached upon 27 acres in Kothuru mandal which resulted in heavy losses to the farmers, the former ZPTC Shyamsunder Reddy told mediaperons.

Group-I Examination passes off peacefully

Hyderabad, October 04: The Group-I main examinations being conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission have passed off peacefully across the state in five centers under tight security arrangements.

The examination was conducted for 198 posts. Earlier, 11,504 candidates qualified in the Group-I Preliminary examination. Out of 11,504 aspirants, approximately 8,400 candidates attempted the main examination.

The APPSC sources, the Group-I main examination results would be announced within three months.

‘Afghan women fear return of Taliban-style govt’

Kabul, October 04: The vast majority of Afghan women are worried about a return to power of a Taliban-style government and over a third say the departure of foreign troops will make the country worse off, according to a survey released on Monday.

The survey of 1,000 Afghan women by charity ActionAid revealed a majority believed they were safer, and their lives had improved, since the Taliban were toppled from power.

Khar ‘completely’ denies aiding anti-India militants

Washington, October 04: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has “completely denied” that Islamabad does not fight militants who use Pakistan as a base to attack Afghans or Americans or Westerners or Indians.

“I would completely deny that. I think we’ve had joint cooperation,” she said in an interview to “CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS” denying retired US military joint chief Mike Mullen’s charges that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has links with the Haqqani network, most deadly of the militant groups in Pakistan.
