Botsa rules out President’s Rule

Anantapur, October 05: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday ruled out the possibilities of imposition of President’s Rule in the State.

Talking to media persons after holding a meeting with Anantapur district party workers, Botsa said that the opposition parties were unnecessarily floating rumours about the President’s Rule. He said that State was not facing any such crisis that necessitates the President’s Rule.

I’m neutral towards Telangana: Naidu

Hyderabad, October 05: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has announced that he was neither against nor supports the formation of separate Telangana State.

Talking to reporters at the NTR Trust Bhavan here on Tuesday, Naidu said that he was completely neutral on the state bifurcation issue. “In case of state’s bifurcation, I will be a leader for both Telangana and Seemandhra regions,” he hoped. He said he needs to protect the interest of his party in both the regions.

‘T’ activists block highways

Hyderabad, October 05: Road transport on three major highways came to a standstill on Tuesday following a highway blockade call given by the pro-Telangana parties demanding seven hours of power supply to farmers.

Telangana activists staged massive protests by squatting on the highways demanding that the government exempt farmers from the power cuts which were necessitated due to power shortage caused by the Sakala Janula Samme or the people’s general strike demanding separate Telangana.

SCR to run 204 Special Trains in Oct

Hyderabad, October 05: In view of the festival season of Dussera and Deepavali, the South Central Railway will be operating a large number of Special Trains on popular routes between various destinations during the month of October 2011.

As many as 16 Special trains would be operated on routes like Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Tirupati, Nagarsol, Mancheiryal, Nanded and Adilabad on specified days. Altogether, these trains would be making 142 trips during October.

Another suicide for Telangana?

Hyderabad, October 05: A 45-year-old man committed by hanging from an electricity pole near Chilkanagar in the Uppal police limits here on Tuesday.

The deceased was later identified as Chandramouli, a resident of Chilkanagar.

Since the deceased was wearing the pink colour ‘khandva’ of TRS, locals suspected that he might have committed suicide for Telangana. However, Uppal police said the reasons behind his suicide are yet to be ascertained.

Sanatan Sanstha ashram raided in Goa by NIA

Panaji, October 04: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the right wing Hindu organisation Sanatan Sanstha’s headquarters located in North Goa’s Ponda Tuesday night.

NIA officials raided the residential as well as official quarters of the ashram at Ramnathi, 30 km from here, of the Sanatan Sanstha, whose members have been chargesheeted for carrying out blasts in Goa as well as several parts of Maharashtra over the last few years.

Superintendent of Police (North) of the Goa Police Arvind Gawas said that the state police personnel were accompanying the NIA officials.

Girls strip friend nude, circulate MMS

Chandigarh, October 04: Four girls allegedly made an MMS (multimedia messaging service) clip of their estranged friend after stripping her in a car and circulated it to all the contacts in the phonebook of latter’s mobile phone in Haryana’s Panchkula district recently.

The MMS scam, which has taken Chandigarh by storm, seemed to be an act of revenge by the girls on the victim. She has been seeking justice since the incident.

DMK warns rebel candidates

Chennai, October 04: The opposition DMK today warned stern action against rebel candidates who entered the fray against official nominees in the local body elections. DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan, in a statement here, said District Secretaries and those in-charge of elections have complained to the party about rebel candidates. Before the party launched an enquiry into the complaints, the rebels should withdraw from the contest and extend their cooperation to the official candidates, failing which, they would be expelled from the party, Mr Anbazhagan warned.

Four killed in road accidents

New Delhi, October 04: Four people were killed and two injured in two different accidents in south Delhi, police said Tuesday.

Rizwan, 26, and Montu, 17, both residents of Dakshinpuri in south Delhi, were killed and their friends Nitin, 18, and Ashish, 19, were injured after their bike hit a road divider on the Barapullah flyover near Sarai Kale Khan early Tuesday, police said.

London, October 04: The UK today announced that Indian and other non-EU professionals will have to return to their countries of origin after their work visa expires instead of being allowed to settle here after working for five years.

Currently, immigration rules allow non-EU professionals to settle in Britain indefinitely after working for five years.

This provision is likely to be soon scrapped under the David Cameron government’s plans to cut immigration.

Farrukhabad, October 04: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev has said he will not contest elections but will undertake tours for establishing high moral values in politics.

The main issue in upcoming assembly elections will be corruption as black money has been stashed in foreign banks, he told his followers here last evening.

Ramdev, on his ‘Swabhiman yatra” in different parts of the state, said he would not contest elections.

However, he would undertake election tours to establish high moral values in politics, the yoga guru said.

Sanjiv Bhatt stands his ground, says won’t compromise with ‘goons’

New Delhi, October 04: Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt refused to make any compromise with the Gujarat government after a local court proposed that if he went on police remand for about three hours his bail plea could be heard today itself.

The response by Bhatt, who has accused Chief Minister Narendra Modi of complicity in 2002 post-Godhra riots, came after Sessions Judge G N Patel made the proposal during hearing on the state government’s revision application for his remand.

Lokayukta wants another Uttar Pradesh minister to go

Lucknow, October 04: After getting two ministers sacked, Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta Justice (retd) N.K. Mehrotra Tuesday recommended removal of yet another minister facing charges of large scale corruption and of amassing wealth far disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income.

‘Secondary Education Minister Rangnath Misra has been found to be indulging in large scale corruption, bribery and amassing huge assets. He therefore deserves to be removed from the state council of ministers,’ Mehrotra told media persons here.

Telangana: Protesters Pelt Stones, Disrupt Traffic

Hyderabad, October 04: Vehicular traffic on the national highway no 9, passing through Nalgonda district in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, remained obstructed for several hours today following blockades placed by the pro-Telangana activists who even pelted stones on some private vehicles, police said.

The highway links Hyderabad to Vijayawada.

The vehicular movement en-route and at various places in the district virtually came to a standstill for the second consecutive day as protesters pelted stones on a few private vehicles after forcibly stopping them from plying.

Anna is back, and he is angry with the Congress

New Delhi, October 04: Putting the Congress on notice on the Lokpal issue, Anna Hazare on Tuesday said he will ask people to inflict a “comprehensive” defeat to the ruling party in the five election-bound states this year if the Centre fails to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in the winter session of Parliament.

To begin with, Hazare said, he will appeal to voters in Hisar Lok Sabha constituency in Haryana where bypolls are scheduled on October 13 not to vote for the Congress candidate as the party was “deliberately” not bringing the Jan Lokpal bill.

Centre agrees to supply power to Andhra

Hyderabad, October 04: Reeling under a power crisis due to the ongoing strike by coal workers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Tuesday received some respite with the central government agreeing to provide 1,000 MW.

The Eastern Grid will provide 800 MW from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. while the Haryana government will supply 200 MW round the clock from its Jhajjar power plant.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for coming to the rescue of the state.

Afghanistan has suffered enough from terrorism: India

New Delhi, October 04: India Tuesday urged all countries in South Asia to facilitate the process of peace and development of Afghanistan, saying Kabul has “suffered enough” from terrorism.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who signed an important strategic cooperation pact with Afghan President Hamid Karzai here, also said that India will take part in the upcoming international meet on Afghanistan this year.

Girl injured in acid attack

Jaipur, October 04: A 19-year-old girl sustained severe burn injuries when an unidentified man threw acid on her in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, police said Tuesday.

The girl, Sangeeta Meena had gone to participate in ‘garba’ dance near her house in Pratap Nagar area and was returning home around 10.30 p.m. Monday when she was attacked.

‘Someone suddenly came out of darkness and threw acid on her. The girl, in her statement, said that he was wearing a mask,’ a police official told IANS.

President unveils Tagore’s bust at Swiss universit

Lausanne, October 04: As the world celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday unveiled a bronze bust of the Nobel laureate at the University of Lausanne here, describing him as a “goodwill ambassador” of modern India.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the University to establish Rabindranath Tagore Chair on Indian Studies that will begin with the teaching of Hindi.
