Lucknow, September 02: Tehmina Kazmi works as an usher for a small event-management company here in Uttar Pradesh’s state capital.

For many 19-year-olds that might not be unusual, but for Kazmi, a young woman from an orthodox Muslim home in the old part of the city, it meant donning Western attire–slacks and a blouse–a prospect that infuriated her younger brother.

“He even beat me up when I made up my mind to take up this job,” Kazmi says. “But today, almost a year on, I am still working. I have even bought him a mobile phone!”

Muslims exhorted to maintain true spirit of Ramadan all the year

Hyderabad, September 2: Eid-ul-Fitr prayer was performed with full religious fervour in the twin cities of Hyderabad, and Secunderabad. The largest congregation was seen at Eidgah Meeralam on the occasion of Eid-ul Fitr, where lakhs of Muslims offered Eid prayer.

Explaining the blessings of Ramadan the khateebs of the mosques exhorted Muslims to maintain the same spirit all the year. They advised them to continue worshiping the whole year with the same spirit as they did during Ramadan and continue helping the deserving people.

10 infants die in Andhra hospital

Hyderabad, September 02: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Friday ordered a probe into the deaths of 11 infants in two days at a government-run hospital, allegedly due to clinical negligence.

He asked two ministers from Kurnool district to visit the Government General Hospital and take necessary action.

Seven babies died at the hospital Thursday, a day after four infants lost their lives, allegedly due to a defective oxygen supply system. All the babies were one to five days old.

Playing the villain, he gets to perform daring stunts and mouth the best lines. The rest of the cast only discovered this as the shooting progressed.

In Vipul Shah’s forthcoming film Force, John Abraham sports a tattoo that is strikingly similar to Sam Worthington’s in Avatar.

Both are black abstract designs. What’s more, both the actors have the tattoo on their right arm. We wonder if this is merely a coincidence, or if the tattoo was actually copied from the 3D blockbuster.

New Delhi, September 02: All thanks to Miss Universe contestant, we now have a new word to add to our vocabulary-twagerism.

The act of stealing someone else’s tweets to make you look more intelligent, yes that’s what ‘twagerism’ is.

According to news.com.au, the new word was coined from claims that a Miss Universe contestant “borrowed” tweets originally published by a newspaper columnist.

Miss Universe India, Vasuki Sunkavalli, in her Twitter profile and updates seemed to have a good grasp on politics and current affairs. We now know the source of her knowlegde.

Turkish Airways Plane Lands In Mud At Mumbai Airport

Mumbai, September 02: A major mishap was averted on Friday morning when a Turkish Airways flight veered off the taxiway after landing in Mumbai and landed in mud.The incident occurred at 4:13 am at Mumbai Airport’s Rapid Exit Taxiway – N8. All 97 passengers on board Turkish Airways flight TK 720 are safe.

The main runway of the Mumbai airport was closed and a probe has been ordered by the DGCA into the incident.Another disaster was averted at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday after an Air India flight landed under emergency conditions.

Mumbai, September 02: Bollywood star Salman Khan’s surgery to treat the nerve disorder trigeminal neuralgia he suffers from has been successful.

Sources inform that Salman was taken into the operation theatre Wednesday midnight, IST.

The operation took almost six to seven hours.

The disorder caused acute pain to his jaw and other parts of his face. He had been suffering for a long time and finally decided to undergo treatment.

Rs. 20 crore sinks in rain water harvesting plan

Hyderabad, September 02: Not only has the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (HMWS&SB) proposed Rain Water Harvesting Cell (RWH Cell) hit a wall, many people who had already paid for the service have their money stuck in a dead-end scheme.

Under the Andhra Pradesh Water, Land and Trees Act —2002 (APWALTA), the Water Board had collected money from the consumers to the tune of� Rs. 20 crore in the name of constructing structures to harvest rain water.

But not even 30 per cent of them have been constructed in the the last six years.

Man jailed for raping minor daughter

New Delhi, September 02: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in Tilak nagar area of west Delhi on Wednesday. The accused has been taken into custody, cops said.

“The victim made a PCR call about the incident around 8pm. The girl accused her drunken father of raping her. We have registered a case ,” said a senior police officer.

Turkey declares plan to host US radar

Ankara, September 02: Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal says Turkey plans to host a radar system developed by the United States for NATO.

Turkey’s decision to host the early-warning radar system will boost NATO’s “defense capacity and strengthen [Turkey’s] national defense system,” Turkey’s Anadolu news agency quoted Unal as saying early on Friday.

The official also noted that the plan is in line with NATO’s “New Strategic Concept” adopted by leaders of the military alliance in a summit in Lisbon last year.

NYPD, CIA partner to spy on Muslims

New York, September 02: The New York Police Department (NYPD) and the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) partner in a program devised to spy on the Muslims around the country.

The project also known as the Demographics Unit hires a team of NYPD officials and a CIA officer also known as, the Associated Press reported.

The squad is focusing on the nationals of 28 countries, nearly all of which are Muslim.

Abortions pose mental health risk to women

London, September 02: Women who have abortions are at risk of severe mental health problems, according to a study.

The research found that those who undergo abortion face nearly double the risk of mental health difficulties compared with others and that one in ten of all mental health problems was a result of abortion.

The findings are certain to cause major controversy at a time when the pro- and anti-abortion lobbies are already in the midst of a vicious row playing out in parliament.

Over 2,000kg Laddu offered to Khairatabad Ganesh

Hyderabad, September 02: A sweetmaker from Tappeswaram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh has offered a huge ‘laddu’ weighing over 2,000 kilogram to the 52-feet tall Ganesh idol at Khairatabad here.

“The 2,200-kg laddu contains 150 kg dry fruits, 250 kg ghee,600 kg sugar and 400 kg of Chana dal. Prepared completely with Ghee it will remain fresh for a month,” Mallikarjuna Rao Head of Suruchi Foods, Tappeswaram told PTI.

He said the expenditure for this laddu, which is to be placed on the hands of the Lord, was around Rs 4 lakh.
