Turkey to challenge Israel’s Gaza siege

Ankara, September 04: Turkey says it plans to challenge Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip at the International Court of Justice, amid rising tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced the decision on Saturday, one day after the release of a United Nations report on Israel’s May 31, 2010 attack on a Gaza-bound aid convoy in international waters and the deaths of nine Turkish nationals on board the fleet.

‘Gaddafi men kill 800 in Sirt in 3 days’

Tripoli, September 04: At least 800 people showing support for Libya’s revolution have been killed by loyalists of fugitive Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi in his hometown of Sirt over the past three days, a Libyan revolutionary official says.

Shamsiddin Ben-Ali, a spokesman for fighters from the Libyan city of Benghazi, reported the casualties on Saturday, adding that many people in Sirt want to join the revolution, the Guardian reported.

The Makkah Royal Clock Tower began working this Ramadan

Makkah, September 4: The Makkah Royal Clock Tower, the second tallest tower in the world, started emitting 16 light beams to a height of 10 kilometers to announce the beginning of Ramadan.

The loud speakers installed at the top of the tower carries the sound of adhan (call to prayer) from the Grand Mosque to seven kilometers far. The powerful lights in white and green blinking at the time of adhan can be seen from a distance of 30 kilometers. The lights are also helpful for people with hearing difficulties to know prayer times.

Homicide will not save Israel: Ahmadinejad

Tehran, September 04: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has lashed out at Israel for committing criminal acts against the Palestinian people, saying crimes and homicide will not save Israel from “definite death.”

In a telephone conversation with Hamas Political Bureau chief Khaled Meshaal on Saturday, President Ahmadinejad said the general situation in the world is changing in favor of the Palestinian people and the resistance.

The Iranian chief executive expressed hope the “Palestinian land will be released in the near future,” IRNA reported.

US military contractors’ fraud revealed

Washington, September 04: The US Congressional Commission on Wartime Contracting has released a report detailing gross negligence, waste of funds and fraud by US contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The panel’s report stated that as much as USD 60 billion has been lost due to fraud or has been wasted in the two countries, describing it as a “troubling” failure that cannot continue amid the country’s deepening economic crisis.

Two held for possessing knives

Hyderabad, September 04: The City Police arrested two persons for possessing lethal knives in the limits of Dabeerpura Police Station.

According to police, a police team nabbed two persons – Syed Vikar and Raza Ali, both residents of Dabeerpura while they moving in a suspicious manner at Bood Ali Shah Khidki on Friday at about 4.30 pm. When they were searched, the policemen found two Jambiyas (large size lethal knives) in their possession. During interrogation, they confessed that they were trying to sell the knives to the needy customers.

US and Britain helped Gaddafi?

London,September 04 :British and US intelligence cooperated closely with Libya, with prisoners being offered to Muammar Gaddafi’s regime under the rendition programme, a report said on Saturday citing files found in Tripoli.

The CIA was among a number of foreign intelligence services that worked with Libya’s agencies, documents found at a Libyan security agency building in Tripoli showed.

Four member inter-state burglars gang held

Hyderabad, September 04: The City Police arrested four members of an inter-state gang of house burglars which was involved in 18 different cases in the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police limits.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, City Police Commissioner AK Khan said all members of the gang hailed from Maharashtra. The gang was involved in eight cases of burglary in SR Nagar, four cases in Punjagutta limits and one each in Habeeb Nagar, Humayun Nagar, Sanath Nagar and Balanagar police station limits.

GHMC’s general body meet on Sept 15

Hyderabad, September 04: The next ordinary general body meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would be held on September 15. This has been decided in the GHMC’s Standing Committee meeting held here on Saturday.

Further, the Standing Committee has also approved the payment of compensation of Rs 2.51 Crore for 271.05 sq yds of land that the GHMC acquired for road widening of Road No 36, Jubilee Hills. Similarly, a compensation of Rs 1.54 lakh has been approved for the acquisition of 1164.75 sq yds of land for road widening from Natraj Nagar to Yousufguda.

Sound bomb blast rocks western Iran

Tehran, September 04: A sound bomb explosion has rocked the western Iranian province of Kordestan, but there were no reports of any injuries or damage.

The percussion bomb, placed under a telephone booth near a petrol station in Lashkar Square in the provincial capital Sanandaj, went off at about 8 p.m. local time (1630 GMT) on Saturday, the Mehr News Agency reported.

There were no injuries and no damage to property as a result of the blast, the report said.

Deputy provincial police commander Ebrahim Kazeminejad said the police has launched an investigation into the incident.
