Bomb scare on flight, all passengers safe

Kochi, September 04: A bomb scare took place on Sunday on a jet flight from Kochi to Bahrain via Mumbai.

An anonymous caller raised an alarm when the flight landed in Mumbai.

Central Industrial Security Force and security teams checked the plane.

All passengers are safe. They were put on alternate flight to Bahrain.

Tropical Storm Lee forms off Louisiana

Miami, September 04: A large storm system churning in the Gulf Of Mexico grew Friday into Tropical Storm Lee, beginning a weekend-long assault that could bring up to 20 inches (50 centimeters) of rain in some spots from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.

The storm was expected to make landfall on the central Louisiana coast late Saturday and turn east toward New Orleans, where it would provide the biggest test of rebuilt levees since Hurricane Gustav struck in 2008.

Strauss-Kahn back home in French capital

Paris, September 04: Dominique Strauss-Kahn returned home to a mixed welcome in France on Sunday, for the first time since attempted rape accusations by a New York hotel maid unleashed an international scandal that dashed his chances for the French presidency.
New York prosecutors later dropped their case against Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund, because of questions about the maid’s credibility.

Maharashtra gang held for theft

Hyderabad, September 04: Police busted a notorious inter-state four-member gang from Maharashtra on Saturday, who were involved in property offences. Gold ornaments weighing about 178 tolas, 80 tolas of silver articles, Rs. 5.60 lakh, a Tata Indica, two televisions, one washing machine and one refrigerator all worth Rs. 57.50 lakh were recovered from them.

The four accused had rented a flat and started to break into houses, police said.

Don’t need security: Hazare

Ralegan Siddhi, September 04: Anna Hazare reiterated Sunday that he did not need the the Z-category security cover provided to him by the Maharashtra government.

He, however, said he would think about it and write to state Home Minister R.R. Patil on the matter.

Hazare, who returned to his village Thursday, told reporters that freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Rajguru did not have any security.

?Why do I need any security,? he asked.

Hazare was Saturday provided Z-category security cover, comprising four armed guards and two personal security officers round the clock.

8-year-old dies in pandal collapse

Hyderabad, September 4: An eight-year-old boy died on the spot due to major head injuries when the concrete roof of a Ganesh pandal collapsed at Shankernagar near Chaderghat on Saturday.

According to police, at around 6.30 p.m on Saturday, Krishna and his friends started playing outside the pandal. As part of their game, Krishna entered into the pandal which was set up in a temporary shed in the locality. As soon as he entered the shed, the main concrete roof of the shed collapsed and fell on Krishna’s head causing major injuries.

CBI searches in Machilipatnam

Hyderabad, September 04: Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation continued to obtain files from various government departments in connection with Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s illegal assets case, a team of sleuths of the investigating body on Saturday carried out searches on few premises in Machilipatnam in Krishna district.

Sources said that a CBI team arrived in Machilipatnam on Saturday morning and headed straight to few places where, it is learnt, the officials seized some documents. Already, the CBI, in its FIR, has named 74 accused in Jagan’s case.

Hussainsagar to be fully clean by 2013: CM

Hyderabad, September 04: The polluted Hussainsagar will be restored to its pristine glory by March 2013, according to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Inaugurating the Interception and Diversion structure at Necklace road to divert sewage from Kukatpally nala on Saturday, he said out of Rs. 370 crore sanctioned under the Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project, about Rs. 122.65 crore has been spent.

3 killed in train accidents

Hyderabad, September 04: Three persons died on the spot after local trains hit them while they were crossing the railway tracks in three different places – Borabanda, Khairatabad and Nampally. While railway police have identified two deceased, the details of the one who died at Borabanda are yet to be known.

According to railway police, one devotee G Lakshmaiah (62) died on the spot at the Khairatabad railway track after being hit by a local train near the Ganesh idol.

Squad for demolition of illegal buildings

Hyderabad, September 04: With an aim to take up the drive against unauthorised constructions effectively, an enforcement squad was set up by the GHMC on Saturday.

Officials said the decision to constitute an enforcement squad was taken as the drive against illegal constructions had not been satisfactory, as there was no proper monitoring on the performance of concerned circle and zonal offices. The enforcement squad will help to take necessary and quick action on unauthorised constructions and deviations to approved plans, officials said.

Two youth drown in Nizam Sagar canal

Hyderabad, September 4: Two youth drowned while swimming in Nizam Sagar canal. The incident occurred last evening. According to details Imram of Pholang locality arrived at his relatives’ house residing at Baban Saheb pahadi area along with his friend Mohammad Ghouse for Eid millap. They entered into Nizam Sagar canal for swimming when Imran started drowning. Seeing this, Ghouse also entered into the water in order to rescue Imran. Ghouse didn’t know swimming as a result both of them fell into the trap of flowing water and drowned.

Cancellation of Penal Provision of RTI Act Urged

Hyderabad, September 04: Mr. Jannath Hussain, IAS (Rtd) convened a meeting with the members of the civil society at 11 am on Saturday 3rd September 2011.

A.P. Information Commission has started convening such meetings on first sarturaday of every month. The participants of the meeting urged the Govt. to drop sections 8 and 11 of RTI Act after conducting detailed discussions. They complained that on accopunt of the provisions of penal action, many departments are not furnishing the information asked for.
