28 children fall sick due to food poisoning

Hyderabad, September 05: At least 28 children fell sick after they ate contaminated food at a roadside hotel at Janapriya Nagar in Miyapur locality.

The children suddenly started vomiting and complained of stomach ache after eating the morning breakfast brought from the hotel. The parents immediately rushed their wards to Osmania General Hospital. However, the children were then referred to the Niloufer Hospital for treatment.

Pro-Jagan MLAs to meet Governor, Speaker

Hyderabad, September 05: Former minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose on Sunday stated that the 29 pro-Congress MLAs will meet Governor ESL Narasimhan and Speaker Nadendla Manohar to press for acceptance of their resignations.

The MLAs have resigned to their post in protest against the inclusion of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s name in the CBI’s FIR in disproportionate assets’ case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. The MLAs will meet the Governor and Speaker on Monday.

Telugu youth killed in US

Rajahmundry, September 05: Another software engineer from Andhra Pradesh died in the United States of America in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to family sources, the deceased, 35-year-old Chekka Shiva Kiran, 35, was drowned accidentally in the Grand River in the US. The incident took place when Shiva Kiran along with his family members went to picnic on Sunday.

Shiva hails from Ullithota in Rajahmundry of East Godavari district. He was working as a software engineer in the US for the past 10 years. His brother is a businessman while his brother is a dentist.

Muslim scholars heading for Islamic awakening conference

Tehran, September 05:About 500 Muslim scholars from 80 countries have been invited to attend the upcoming international conference on Islamic awakening, the secretary of the conference has announced.

Ali Akbar Velayati, who is also the Supreme Leader’s top advisor, made the announcement at a press conference which was held in IRIB conference hall on Sunday.

He said that the conference, which is the first of its kind, is scheduled to be held on September 17 and 18 in Tehran.

New york, September 05: For nearly four years, Salman Khan kept his nerve disorder close to his chest and continued to work even though at times he felt an ‘electric shock’ in a part of his forehead with excruciating pain, the actor disclosed. Salman said he underwent an eight-hour-long surgery

CBI questions Sai Reddy for second day in Jagan’s case

Hyderabad, September 04: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team interrogated Vice-Chairman of Jagathi Publications V Vijay Sai Reddy at Dilkusha Guest House here for the second day today. The Jagathi Publications is owned by YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Sai Reddy is the second accused in his disproportionate assets case. Sources said the CBI grilled Sai Reddy for few hours after it did the same exercise for nearly six hours yesterday to ascertain about the investments made into the Jagathi Publications.

Niamey, September 04: Leaders of the Tuareg people in Niger and Mali are urging countrymen who fought in Muammar Gaddafi’s army to stay in Libya and rally to its new rulers rather than head south to their fragile, poverty-stricken homelands.

The return of thousands of armed Tuareg fighters could, they fear, be devastating to a region which has suffered years of rebellions and is now struggling to counter local al Qaeda allies plying the lucrative trade of foreign hostages.

Four killed in road accidents

New Delhi, September 04: Four people, including a policeman, were killed in separate road accidents here Sunday, police said.

In the first accident, Head Constable Rakesh Kumar, 38, was found dead in south Delhi’s Cantonment area early Sunday.

A police van spotted Kumar lying unconscious in a pool of blood. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police said they were investigating whether he was crushed under a speeding vehicle or his two-wheeler skidded due to rain.

On Sunday, former state Health Minister B Sriramulu resigned from his state Assembly membership. Sriramulu, who had been sulking over denial of ministerial berth, sent his resignation letter to the Assembly Speaker.

BJP doesn’t endorse privilege notices to Team Anna

New Delhi, September 04: With privilege notices slapped on some Team Anna members, BJP on Sunday said it did not endorse the move, saying MPs should show largeheartedness and not get provoked by “uncharitable” comments from civil society.

“MPs must show largeheartedness and magnanimity and must not get provoked by comments including uncharitable ones by civil society members,” BJP chief spokesman and General Secretary Ravishankar Prasad said here.

The BJP leader said he did not share the view of MPs of slapping privilege notice against civil society members.

WikiLeaks:India’s secret deal with Pakistan on Kashmir

New Delhi,September 04 :According to secret US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks, Singh told the Congressional delegation in April 2009 that India and Pakistan had made great progress prior to February 2007, when Musharraf ran into trouble.

“We had reached an understanding in back channels,” Singh told the delegation.

The cable was sent by US Charge d’Affairs Peter Burleigh to his bosses in the US State Department on April 21, 2009.

US drone shot down in Somalia

Somalia, September 04: Local fighters say they have shot down a suspected United States operated aerial vehicle in the south of Somalia near the capital, Mogadishu. Press TV reported.

Al-Shabaab fighters say the drone crashed into the sea after it was hit near the lower Shabelle region in Merka town, located south of the capital.

The fighters say six other drones have been seen flying over Mogadishu and the nearby town of Merka.

Numerous US remote-controlled drones have in the past few weeks crashed in Somalia.

Yemenis call for intensified protests

Sanaa, September 04: Yemeni protesters have held demonstrations in several cities across the country, calling for intensified anti-regime protests until victory is achieved, Press TV reports.

Demonstrators took to the streets on Sunday, one day after the chairman of the Yemeni National Council rejected a deal initiated by the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Mohammed Basindwah warned on Saturday that the Yemeni opposition would accept the deal unless Ali Abdullah Saleh resigns first.

‘US mired in war of attrition in Iraq’

NSA Menon capitulated before Chidambaram: US cable

New Delhi, September 04: National Security Adviser (NSA) Shivshankar Menon had capitulated to Home Minister P Chidambaram on intelligence issues soon after taking over his post, a diplomatic cable leaked by whistleblower site WikiLeaks says.

In the cable dated Feb 1, 2010, then US envoy Timothy J. Roemer observed: “While Menon is battling to preserve much of the territory and power of the NSA, he may well have capitulated to Chidambaram on some intelligence issues.”

Menon had taken over as the NSA on Jan 23, 2010 and Roemer had met him just five days later.

‘No gutkha, pan masala export in plastic sachets’

New Delhi, September 04: Exports of gutkha and pan masala in plastic sachets will not be allowed, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has said.

The direction comes amid contrasting views expressed by the Chief Commissioners of Customs on whether to allow exports of gutkha and other tobacco products in plastic sachets after the Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011, were notified.

CBI to give presentation on Pandya case to PC

New Delhi, September 04: The CBI will be giving a presentation to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on its proposal to file a Special Leave Petition in Supreme Court challenging the acquittal of 12 people in the murder of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya in 2003.

Sources in the agency said a presentation was to be made soon before the Home Minister during which it was expected that he may point out to the CBI the possible weaknesses in the case and suggest further course of action.

Mamata opts out of PM’s Bangladesh visit

Kolkata, September 04: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was to accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his two-day visit to Bangladesh on Sunday said she was not going.

“I am not going,” Banerjee said here when asked whether she will visit Bangladesh.

She did not specify any reason for deciding not to go to Bangladesh.

Banerjee and chief ministers of four other states bordering Bangladesh were scheduled to accompany the Prime Minister on his visit starting on September six.

Bomb scare on Jet Airways flight

Mumbai, September 04: A Jet Airways international flight Sunday late evening was held back at the Mumbai Airport after the staff received an anonymous call claiming a bomb was on board.

Security agencies including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Mumbai Airports Authority were alerted and the Kochi-Mumbai-Bahrain flight is being thoroughly checked.

All passengers are, however, safe.

Two killed as CPI-M, Trinamool clash in Bengal

Kolkata, September 04: Two people were killed in a clash Sunday between Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists over sowing of paddy on a plot of land in West Bengal?s South 24 Parganas district, police said.

Two others were also injured in the clash near the plot in Baruipurin. Firearms and sharp weapons were used in the incident, police sources said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Presidency Range) Siddhinath Gupta told IANS: ?Two persons have been killed. The clash had political overtones.?
