New Delhi, September 05: Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh’s statement on Sunday accusing Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal of evading taxes has resulted in a strong rebuttal from Anna Hazare and his supporters. Singh claimed Kejriwal deliberately flouted rules of his government service and used his NGOs to amass crores of rupees.

Hazare has publicly stated that he trusts Kejriwal despite the accusations, and many supporters have labeled the notice as politically motivated.

Truck Driver Burnt Alive

Kundapur, September 05: In a macabre accident that occurred at Ottinene bend on national highway 66 near Byndoor in the taluk on Sunday at around 8 pm, the driver of a tanker was charred to death. While a truck was reduced to ashes in the accident, the tanker was partially burnt.

Lokayukta row: Guj HC to hear Modi govt’s plea

Ahmadabad, September 05: The Gujarat High Court, Monday, is expected to take up state government’s petition challenging the appointment of Lokayukta by the Governor without consulting the Chief Minister.

On Aug 25, Governor Kamla Beniwal, bypassing the state government, appointed Justice (Retd) RA Mehta as the state Lokayukta. The decision was challenged by the government in the court.

Mumbai airport runway reopens after four days

Mumbai, September 05: After remaining shut for four days, the main runway of the Mumbai airport was on Monday reopened after a team of engineers towed away a Turkish Airways’ Airbus 340 aircraft, which got stuck in the mud when it skidded off the tarmac, airport officials said.

“The Turkish Airways’ plane TK-740 was towed away at 1:17 am,” the airport spokesperson told a news agency, adding that the runway has been “handed over” to ATC at 6:51 am for operation.

The plane was taken to the Air India hanger for repair.

Iran hangs six convicts in prison

Tehran, September 05: Iran on Sunday hanged three people found guilty of “forbidden acts” as well as two convicted rapists and a drug trafficker in a prison of the southwestern city of Ahvaz, ISNA news agency reported.

Three of the prisoners were hanged for committing “forbidden acts against religion,” the report said, without elaborating.

Other charges against the three included kidnapping and theft, Khuzestan provincial judiciary spokesman Hojjatoleslam Abdolhamid Amanat was quoted as saying.

CBI arrests Karnataka’s Reddy brothers

New Delhi, September 05: In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested former Karnataka tourism minister and mining czar G Janardhana Reddy and his brother Srinivasa Reddy after conducting raids at their residence and offices.

As per report, a ten-member team of the CBI conducted the raids and seized computer hard disk and vital documents related to Reddy brother’s illegal mining operation in and outside Karnataka.

MP Hajj Pilgrims Asked to Deposit Amount for Accommodation Allotted from Central Govt

Bhopal, September 05 (Pervez Bari): The Madhya Pradesh pilgrims of Hajj-2011 who have been allotted seats from the Central Government’s discretionary quota and of waiting list are required to deposit entire amount of Azizia category accommodation facility till September 10, 2011.

Apart from it, the pilgrims will have to submit passport with passport size photo and pay-in-slip of deposited amount to the Madhya Pradesh Hajj Committee office. Information about the applicants who have been confirmed in waiting-list is available on website of Hajj committee.

Public Service Delivery Week to be Observed from Sept. 12-18 in MP

Bhopal, September 05 (Pervez Bari): Public service delivery week will be observed from September 12 to 18 under the Public Service Delivery Guarantee Act in Madhya Pradesh. During the week, Gram Sabhas will be held at all the villages of Gram Panchayat in order to educate the people about provisions of the Act.

A team of 3-5 members of executive officers-employees at Gram Panchayat level will inform the people about the Act. Village Patwari, Panchayat secretary will compulsorily be members of the team. The team members will be imparted training regarding the Act before September 12.

Parallel government for Telangana: Bapuji

Hyderabad, September 05: Telangana Rashtra Sadhana Udayama Committee president Konda Laxman Bapuji on Sunday called upon Telangana people and leaders to launch a parallel government and assembly to govern themselves.

Talking to media persons, Bapuji said that there was no point in staying in the united Andhra Pradesh without honour. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) N K Kaushik awarded life sentence to Shahin Saifi, saying that the the case did not belong to “the rarest of rare” category warranting death sentence to the convict.

TET results declared, over 47 per cent qualify

Hyderabad, September 05: Nearly 47 per cent of candidates have cleared the Teachers’ Eligibility Test whose results were declared here on Sunday.

Secondary Education Minister K Partha Sarathi on Sunday released the results of Teachers’ Eligibility Test, conducted for the first time, by the Education Department in the state on experimental basis. Mamata to lecture at Harvard

Kolkata, September 05 :Months after forming the West Bengal government by defeating the communists, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has received an invitation from Harvard University to give a lecture on the politics and culture of the state, officials said.

Sources close to Banerjee said the formal invitation from the hallowed institution was received at the chief minister’s secretariat Saturday. Banerjee has been requested to speak on either the “Culture and Politics of Bengal” or “Demographic Changes in Bengal”.
