Well heeled politician lives like common prisoner in Chanchalguda jail

Hyderabad, September 7: Gali Janardhan the uncrowned prince of mining, who is counted among the most affluent politicians of India, spent the night like a common prisoner at Chanchalguda jail. He had been arrested the day before. He slept on floor along with the other prisoners.

Famous for living a deluxe life in Karnataka, Janardhan Reddy had to compromise on dal, rice and vegetable for dinner at Chanchalguda jail, who at times went to Bangalore from Bellari on Helicopter just for having breakfast. Janardhan Reddy and his bother-in-law Srinivas Reddy were served Kichdi in breakfast.

Makkah police detain incestuous dad

Makkah, September 07: Police are currently detaining a man in his 40’s accused of sexually abusing his 16-year-old daughter over a period of five months. The man used to assault his daughter when her mother was away from home.

The mother, who started suspecting the health condition of the girl, took her to hospital for a medical checkup. She was shocked when doctors informed her that her daughter was pregnant. The girl burst into tears and confessed that her father had been sexually assaulting her for five months, Al-Watan newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Pakistan ‘main threat’ to Afghanistan: US senator

Chicago, September 07: Pakistan is the “main threat” to Afghanistan and its intelligence service is “the biggest danger” to the government in Kabul, a US senator recently returned from the region warned on Tuesday.

Republican Senator Mark Kirk, just returned from a two-week stint serving as a US Naval Reserve Intelligence Commander, charged in a speech that the militant Haqqani network is “backed and protected” by Pakistan’s powerful spy agency.

A Ghar to give Urdu a new lease of life

Hyderabad, September 07: Nampally, one of the busiest commercial centers in the city, will now host a cultural space dedicated to Urdu language and literature.

In a month’s time, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu) will start Urdu Ghar where ghazals and other cultural and literary events related to the Urdu language will be held. This is part of an academic initiative towards reviving the dying language, university officials said.

Poverty forced us to give daughter away to Arab

Hyderabad, September 07: Even as police arrested a UAE national for marrying a minor Hyderabadi girl on Tuesday, the girl’s mother claimed that they were forced to take the step owing to their desperate economic situation.

The mother, Parveen Sultana, said she has nine children-five girls and four boys-and very little income to support them. “The girl is of marriageable age. We performed the marriage with her consent,” she claimed.

Twin blasts kill three in Pakistan’s Quetta

Islamabad, September 07: At least two persons were killed in twin blasts in Pakistan’s restive southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday. The blasts occurred in the highly guarded and sensitive area where many government offices are located, local media reported.

ARY television reported that three people were killed and several others were injured in the blasts.

The blasts smashed glasses of nearby houses and destroyed several vehicles.
Firing was also heard after the blasts. All main markets in Quetta were closed after the blasts.

Traffic restrictions on Tank Bund

Hyderabad, September 07: Traffic restrictions have been imposed on all the roads leading to Tank Bund and adjoining areas in view of Ganesh idols immersion between September 7 and 11. The restrictions would be in force from 3 pm on the said days.

Traffic police advised citizens to avoid travel through the Khairatabad junction, particularly between 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., till the Ganesh immersion procession completes on September 11.

Hyderabad, September 7: A son killed his father in drunken state. The incident occurred at Angkore village. 70 year old K Venkat Reddy resident of Angkore village was living alone after his wife’s death. His son Venkat Ram Reddy has been residing in Hyderabad along with is wife and children. On Sunday Venkat Ram Reddy reached Angkore and in drunken state hacked his father to death with an axe.

Blast outside Delhi High Court

New Delhi, September 07: A blast was heard Wednesday morning outside the Delhi High Court located in heart of the capital.

Although it would be premature to term it as a bomb blast but eyewitnesses said that the blast was very loud.

The blast occurred near gate number 5 of the High Court. Police officials are at the spot and are taking stock of the situation.

Detained Arab was on his fourth ‘marriage trip’

Hyderabad, September 07: It was during his fourth attempt at marriage that the Arab national Syed Hilal Hamoodi (46) was detained by police on Sunday night. He was caught him when he was allegedly paying huge amounts to a minor girl’s parents for the marriage.

A senior police officer of South Zone said preliminary investigation revealed that Syed Hilal Hamoodi, a native of Sharjah had visited the Old City thrice.

ISI used Nepal as terror hub against India: WikiLeaks

Washington, September 07: In the run up to the hijacking of the Indian Airlines Flight 814 by Pakistan-based terrorist outfits, the ISI had made Nepal a hub of anti-India terror activities from where it pushed huge quantities of RDX into the country, latest US cables released by WikiLeaks say.

In these cable, US officials have conceded that it is the ISI which created various terrorist fronts to carry out terrorist activities in India, including the bomb blasts in the busy areas of Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar in New Delhi and several cities across the country.

India-Bangladesh sign pact on border demarcation

Dhaka, September 07: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina signed a big accord on border demarcation ending their 4-decade old disputes over boundaries. India has also announced 24-hour access to Bangladeshis in the Tin Bigha Corridor.
