Delhi Police prepares sketches of suspects

New Delhi, September 07: Hours after a powerful bomb blast struck Delhi High Court killing 11 people, Delhi Police has prepared two sketches of the suspects, sources informed.

The sketches were prepared based on information obtained from eye witnesses.

A powerful bomb believed to be placed in a suitcase had gone off outside the Delhi High Court at 10.17. Besides 11 people who were killed, another 80 were injured.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation and is probing all angles.

‘Islam in America’ Exhibition Opens in Mumbai Dargah

Mumbai, September 07: US Consul General Peter Haas Tuesday inaugurated a photo and video exhibition on ‘Islam in America’ at the Haji Ali shrine in south Mumbai.

It is for the first time that such an exhibition is being held at the well-known shrine.

“On my very first visit to Mumbai in March this year, I had just walked in here and looked up the history of the place and then decided to come back,” Haas reminisced.

Police tampered with Shehla’s cell phone?

Bhopal, September 07: Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into Bhopal’s RTI Activist Shehla Masood’s murder, reports on Wednesday alleged tampering of her cell phone- key evidence- by police.

As per reports, Masood was shot dead outside her house a little after 11 am on August 16. When the police reached the spot later at noon, they seized her car and two mobile phones for examination.

Washington, September 07: Yahoo profits rise but sales dip Apple in record sales and profits Yahoo! criticised over email scan Yahoo’s chief executive Carol Bartz has been fired by the internet company after two-and-a-half years in the top job.

The company said in a statement that Ms Bartz was removed by the board of directors, effective immediately.

Tim Morse, Yahoo’s chief financial officer, will take over from Ms Bartz.

Yahoo has been struggling to increase its market share as it faces increased competition from rivals such as Google and Facebook.

Bullock cart overturns, 1 killed

Hyderabad, September 7: A man was killed as a bullock car overturned. The incident occurred at Meerpet police station limits. 40 year old Santa who arrived on bullock cart at his daughter’s house to meet her met with an accident while returning. His bullock cart toppled down at Mallapur area and Santa sustained serious injuries in the accident. Yesterday night he died at the hospital. Police has registered a case and investigations are on.

Washington, September 07: Popular music promotes sexual aggression among adolescents, says a research.

“Popular music can teach young men to be sexually aggressive and treat women as objects while often teaching young women that their value to society is to provide sexual pleasure for others,” said the study by Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Researchers looked at the trend of rising use of sexually explicit lyrics in music. They analyzed the lyrics of 100 most popular songs from 1959 to 2009 prepared by Billboard magazine, the journal Sexuality & Culture reports.

We don’t know who attackers are

New Delhi, September 07: It was not possible at this stage to identify the terrorists who exploded a bomb outside Delhi High Court Wednesday killing nine people, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said.

Chidambaram told the Lok Sabha that Delhi was a target for terrorists as it was the national capital.

Accordingly, Delhi had been put on high security alert, he said in a brief statement.

The minister said the blast left nine dead and some seriously injured.

“We are clear that there is no cause that will justify the terrorist act,” he said.

It is said that protesting against slight damage caused to Ganesh idol, local BJP leaders staged dharna before Madanapet police station following which the situation became tensed. Miscreants pelted stones at Madannapet Mandi police outpost and also near India hotel following which police immediately came into action and enhanced patrolling.

Hyderabad, September 7: VAS infrastructure and service located at Hyderabad has launched a new service named “my SMS” which breaks language barrier for mobile users. SMS service will be available in various languages of the country such as English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi and Bangla.

My SMS is an SMS-based application which allows the mobile users to request SMS service in their regional language and it also sends messages in requested language on demand.

7 hungry dogs eat owner

Manado, September 07: Seven dogs starved of food and water for two weeks are suspected of eating their Indonesian owner after he returned to his hometown in Manado from a holiday, local media reported on Tuesday.

A neighbourhood guard was curious when he saw luggage lined up at the front of Andre Lumboga’s house, days after the 50-year old arrived back home. He approached the house, smelled something foul and called the police, according to a report.

Night Shelters in city by December 2011

Hyderabad, September 07: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation plans to construct 20 night shelters in 10 circles of the city by December 2011. A committee is surverying the houseless persons.

It is said that in the night shelters established earlier vagabonds are taking shelter and the really eligible persons are afraid of staying there during night time.

Govt. is providing this facility to provide night shelters to the destitute people who sleep on the footpaths and railways stations.

Urdu Shareef Building in dilapidated condition

Hyderabad, September 07: Urdu Shareef is one of the oldest Urdu Medium Schools of the city of Hyderabad which is located at Shah Gunj Road near Fateh Darwaza. The old building of Urdu Shareef is in dilapidated condition. It is spread our an area of two acres. The school has now been shifted to a four room house. The strength of the students has come down from 700 to 152. The school was earlier housed in Iqbaluddowla palace. It is not known why the school has been shifted from that building. Govt. is requested to provide alternate accommodation for this school.

Central Scholarships for degree students

Hyderabad, September 07: According to a press note issued by the Secretary Board of Intermediate Education, Govt. of India has sanctioned 6097 Scholarships for the meritorious students who have secured more than 80% marks in their intermediate examination and whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs. 4.5 lakh.

Each such eligible student will get Rs. 2000 per month for ten months every year of his degree or postgraduate course. The last date of submission of application is 30th September 2011. For further details, the candidates may see the website www.bieap.gov.in

Sexual harassment to be a non-bailable offence

Mumbai, September 07: Acting on the recommendations of one-man justice CS Dharmadhikari committee, the state government will soon make sexual harassment a non-bailable offence. Other recommendations made by justice Dharmadhikari include setting up of a separate space for such victims in the police station, increasing police vigilance in vulnerable areas, and separate fast-track courts for trying such cases.
