Post-Delhi blasts, CM reviews security situation

Hyderabad, September 08: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy sprung into action soon after reports came about the blasts in New Delhi on Wednesday.

He reviewed the law and order situation and asked the Chief Secretary S V Prasad and top police officials to step up security measures in the city and other sensitive places in the state.

Keeping in mind the ensuing Ganesh immersion day, the Chief Minister asked the police officials to be on high alert. He asked them to increase vigilance and review provisions made to avoid any possible untoward incidents.

Daughter-in-law killed for denying sex

Jaipur, September 8:In a shocking incident, a father-in-law strangled to death his pregnant daughter-in-law for not obliging to his sexual interests.

The incident took place at Khelna village under Pragpura police station in Jaipur district on Wednesday.

Additional police superintendent Vineet Bansal said the victim, Santosh (21), wife of Naresh, was sleeping in her room Tuesday night. Her father-in-law Kailash, in the wee hours, stealthily got into her room and tried to sexually assault her.

AP tops in RGGVY implementation

Hyderabad, September 08: The State has emerged as the best State in the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen VidyutikaranYojana (RGGVY).

The scheme, which ended on June 31, saw Andhra Pradesh cater to the maximum number of beneficiaries from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) strata.

Presently, there are no pending electrification projects that have been earmarked for BPL households, SC, ST, Weaker Section Colonies and Indiramma Colonies.

Israeli excavations endanger Al-Aqsa

Jerusalem, September 08: The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has warned against Israel’s excavation activities beneath the Al-Aqsa mosque in Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Media TV reported.

“The excavations constitute a real and serious threat for the Muslims’ first Qiblah and to its unique symbolism in the Arab and Islamic world,” Press TV’s Beirut correspondent reported quoting a Hezbollah statement issued on Wednesday.

Since Israel occupied the Old City of Al-Quds in 1967, excavations have sparked demonstrations and objections in the Muslim world.

CM calls for stepping up of hydro-power generation

Hyderabad, September 08: In what could be attributed as a departure from earlier practises Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy gave an inkling into his visionary plans on Wednesday.

Rains ushering prosperity: CM

Hyderabad, September 08: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday expressed happiness over the encouraging inflows into all the dames in the State. Thanking the rain gods for the continuous rainfall, particularly in the interiors, he was hopeful that this augured well for the Kharif season. Water has touched optimal levels at almost all the dams.

Reiterating that irrigation was his priority area, Mr Reddy said the inflow was so good that 26 crest gates had been opened at the Nagarjuna Sagar dam.

Gali’s bail petition hearing adjourned to Thursday

Hyderabad, September 08: The Central Bureau of Investigation Special Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the CBI’s petition seeking the custody of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy for 15 days to Thursday.

6.6 intensity quake shakes Delhi

New Delhi, September 07: An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale shook the Indian capital and its outskirts at 11.30 p.m. Wednesday, the Met department said.

People in many areas as well as in the neighbouring town of Faridabad in Haryana ran out of their homes as the furniture started shaking with a rattle.

2 naked men held at gunpoint after woman fears rape

Portage, September 07: A woman’s embarrassment may have led her to threaten two men that she went to a hotel with, but she told police she did it because she thought she may have been raped.

Stefanie Bradford, 31, of Hobart, admittedly pointed one victim’s guns at the men and ordered them to strip.

A bullet went into a mattress when the gun accidentally went off, Bradford told police. The men, brothers living at the Deluxe Travel Inn, at 6101 U.S. 20, told police they met Bradford at Shenanigan’s Bar on Saturday night.

Russian jet carrying hockey team crashes, 43 dead

Tunoshna, September 07: A Russian jet carrying a top ice hockey team crashed while taking off Wednesday in western Russia, killing at least 43 people and leaving two critically injured, officials said.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the Yak-42 plane crashed immediately after leaving an airport near the city of Yaroslavl, on the Volga River about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northeast of Moscow. It was carrying 45 people, including 37 passengers and eight crew, and the ministry said all but two people were killed in the crash.

US knew ISI had links with Tiger Memon: WikiLeaks

Washington, September 07: American officials knew for a very long time that ISI had created various terrorist groups, including those based out from Nepal, to carry out attacks in India including the 1996 Lajpat Nagar blast, according to the latest US cables released by WikiLeaks.

The US cables clearly show that Americans also knew that Tiger Memon, the prime accused in 1993 Mumbai blast case and an aide of global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, had tied up with the ISI.

British Indian Muslims condemns Delhi Blast

Mumbai, September 07: British Indian Muslims, calling it wanton terrorism and mindless blood-letting, have strongly condemned the blasts outside Delhi High Court that killed 12 persons and injured many.

“We strongly condemn such cowardly and mindless acts of the desecration of human lives. Our thoughts go with the victims and their relatives.” Chairman of Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM), Mr Munaf Zeena said in a statement issued today.

Delhi HC blast: Victims’ relative shocked

New Delhi, September 07: When Nizamuddin (85), left his home in Meerut, for the last hearing of a family feud in the Delhi High Court, little did he know that it will be his last journey. He was one of the eleven people, killed in the powerful bomb blast which occurred on Wednesday morning at the gate number five of Delhi High Court.

Nizamuddin’s distant relative, Md. Yaseen was unable to believe that he was dead. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital authorities declared Nizamuddin “brought dead”. Nizamuddin was accompanied to the High Court by his grandson and two relatives, who were injured.

Today’s blast outside the Delhi high court, which caused heavy casualties, comes three months after a low intensity blast that took place at the same place on May 25, also a Wednesday.

Even the serial blasts in Mumbai on July 13, which killed 18 people and injured 141, also occurred on Wednesday.

The 26/11 terror strikes, which is considered one of the biggest attacks in the country, in 2008 had also taken place on a Wednesday.

Nagam is an agent of Jagan

Mahaboobnagar September 07: The TDP senior leader, Mr Errabelli Dayakar Rao, has said that his party had suspended the Nagarkurnool MLA, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, from the party because he had turned as an agent of the YSR Congress Party chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr Dayakar Rao alleged that Dr Nagam joined the Telangana movement with a selfish agenda. He claimed that Dr Nagam had sabotaged Telangana movement when the TDP had taken up Telangana movement in the past.
