Delhi blast: Raid at Jammu and Kashmir cyber cafe

Srinagar, September 08: A cyber cafe in Jammu and Kashmir was raided Thursday morning by police to trace the details of the email sent by Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HuJI) that claimed responsibility for the Delhi High Court blast, sources said.

The National Investigation Agency zeroed in on Global Internet Cafe at Malik Market in Kishtwar from where the email was sent.

The Pakistan-based HuJI had sent the email to two television channels demanding that the hanging of 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru be immediately repealed.

Berlin, September 08: Bonn the city located in Germany has begun collecting taxes from prostitutes with an automated pay station similar to a parking meter. It is not the only city in Germany to charge such a tax, but it is the first to hit upon the idea of a ticket machine that prints out receipts for the nightly flat fee of 6 euros (currently about $8.65) for the privilege of streetwalking. The meter went into service over the weekend, and by Monday morning had collected $382 for the city’s coffers.

Nagam quits TDP, announces new Forum

Hyderabad, September 08: Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday resigned from the primary membership of the Telugu Desam Party. It triggered en-masse` resignations with his supporters, including senior leaders like S Venugopala Chary, HarishwarReddy and Joguramma, following suit.

Dr Reddy who was suspended for anti-party activities had vacated his Nagarkurnool assembly seat, which is pending with the Speaker, demanding separate state for Telangana.

Nagam and others sent in their papers to the party chief N Chandrababu Naidu by e-mail.

4.2 intensity quake shakes Delhi

New Delhi, September 08: An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale shook the Indian capital for 5-6 seconds at 11.30 p.m. Wednesday, the Met department said. There were no immediate report of casualties or damage to property.

According to initial reports, the quake was also felt in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.

In the capital, people, many of whom had retired for the night, ran out of their homes in fright when their furniture started rattling alarmingly and cupboards and fans started swaying.

OU students to launch agitation from today

Four Telangana legislators quit TDP

Hyderabad, September 08: Four rebel legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) quit the outfit Wednesday to protest its ambiguous stand on the demand for separate statehood to Telangana.

Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who was suspended from the party in May this year, told reporters that he and three of his supporters K. Harishwar Reddy, S. Venugopalachary and Jogu Ramanna sent separate letters to TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, resigning from the primary membership of the party.
Their move comes amid reports that Janardhan Reddy plans to float a new party to fight for separate Telangana state.

Terror group HuJI email link traced to J&K: Report

New Delhi, September 08: Security officials have traced the origin of the HuJI email, claiming responsibity for the Delhi High Court blast on Wednesday, to Jammu and Kashmir, media reports.

The email was received by different media organisations on Wednesday allegedly from Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) and said that the group took responsibility for the blasts which killed 11 people and injured over 70. HuJI is a outlawed Bangladesh-based terrorist group with a base in Pakistan too.

Russian plane crashes, 36 dead

Moscow, September 08: A passenger plane carrying a Russian ice hockey team crashed shortly after takeoff near the city of Yaroslavl on Wednesday, killing 36 of the 37 people on board, officials and news agencies said.

The Yak-42 aircraft was headed from the city north of Moscow to Minsk in Belarus when it crashed, an official at state aviation agency Rosaviatsia said. The official said 36 people were killed and one was injured.

New Delhi, September 08: Hours after a high intensity blast ripped through the security arrangements of the Delhi high court, the bar association passed a resolution and forwarded it to the Chief Justice of the Delhi HC stressing to expedite the process of installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on the court premises and also outside. “The May 25 blast was an eye-opener for all of us, so why aren’t we still prepared.

For CCTV installation only tenders were floated, which is a shame,” said DK Sharma, secretary, Delhi high court bar association.

Push to ban Islamic law from Oklahoma court cases

Peter Cave, September 08: In the United States a controversial push to prohibit Oklahoma judges from considering Islamic law in deciding cases is going back to court the day after the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

One of the groups backing an amendment to the state constitution to ban sharia law plans to campaign on the same issue in Australia.

Muslim leaders in Oklahoma are fighting it, saying it violates their rights and stigmatises their faith.

Hockey team dies in Russian Air Crash

Yaroslavl, September 08: A Russian jet plane carrying a top ice hockey team slammed into a riverbank moments after takeoff Wednesday, killing at least 43 people in one of the worst plane crashes involving a sports team. Two others on board were injured. The Russian authorities say the plane was carrying 37 passengers and eight crew members.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the Yak-42 plane crashed into the shores of the Volga River immediately after leaving the airport near the western city of Yaroslavl, 240 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

A Muslim for Liberty

In his recent speech in Scotland, Imam Rauf claimed that no Muslim wants stoning or amputation in America. But if that is true, why have Muslims already brought female genital mutilation, “Islamic” finance and the “disciplining” of wives to America? If they have brought these aspects of Sharia, why would they not bring stoning or amputation as well? Have these laws suddenly somehow lost the approval of Allah?

Stand by my statement on Anna: PM

New Delhi, September 08: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday said that he stood by his statement in parliament on Anna Hazare that the social activist’s fight against corruption was good but not his method.

“I stand by that statement,” the prime minister told reporters on board his special aircraft said while returning home after a two-day visit to Dhaka.

Replying to a query, he said: “Corruption is an issue of national concern.”

“All parties concerned, including the government, must take note of that,” he added.

117 government websites hacked

New Delhi, September 07: In almost last three years, 117 government websites have been hacked by various groups, parliament was informed Wednesday.

“As per the information tracked and reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team a total of 90,119,252 and 117 government websites were hacked in the year 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 (till June) by various hacker groups,” Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Poor quality fuel caused Russian plane crash?

Moscow, September 08: Poor quality of aviation fuel could be one of the reasons behind the Yak-42 plane crash in central Russia in which over 40 people died Wednesday, a source in the aviation industry said.

The plane carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team crashed moments after take-off from Yaroslavl airport at 4.00 p.m. Moscow time, bursting into flames as it hit the ground. Witnesses spoke of hearing two “loud bangs” before the accident.
