Assets case: Jaganmohan meets PM

New Delhi, September 09: YS Jaganmohan Reddy, facing cheating and money laundering cases registered by CBI and ED, Thursday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue of “farmers’ plight” in Andhra Pradesh.

Though there was no official confirmation of what transpired at the meeting, sources close to the Kadapa MP said the CBI cases against him did not figure. This is the first time that Jagan has met a member of the Congress top brass after he quit the party in November last year alleging “humiliation”.

‘Sarabjit’s condition deteriorating in Pak prison’

Amritsar, September 09: Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, on death row in a Pakistan jail, may die there as his health is deteriorating each day, his sister Thursday claimed.

Dalbir Kaur said that Sarabjit’s lawyer Awais Sheikh informed her over phone from Lahore that the physical condition of her brother was deteriorating day by day and multiple ailments like joint pain, insomnia and high cholesterol had crippled him.

Sarabjit, lodged in Kotlakhpatrai jail of Lahore, may die inside the prison if needful was not done right now, she told reporters.

RN Yadav takes oath as 25th Governor of MP

Bhopal, September 09 (Pervez Bari): Newly appointed Governor of Madhya Pradesh Mr. Ram Naresh Yadav was administered oath of office by acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court Mr. Sushil Harkohli here on Thursday. He is the 25th Governor of Madhya Pradesh to take office.

USA to host Telugu Internet Conference

Hyderabad, September 09: The first International Telugu Internet Conference will be held for three days from September 28 at Milpitas, California, USA, with focus on promotion of Telugu language on the internet through development of various tools.

The Information and Communication Technologies Department of Andhra Pradesh government and US-based Silicon Andhra, an organisation committed to promotion of Telugu language and culture overseas, are jointly organising the conference with the theme “Telugu in the Internet age”.

More teens ‘get pregnant during spring break’

New Delhi, September 09: A new study has found that the conception rate in March among adolescents is higher than any other month and the surge could be due to the annual break students get from their studies.

“This adolescent pregnancy peak may be explained by biological reasons such as variations in fertility over the course of a calendar year, but it’s also possible that this increased conception rate in March is because of spring break,” said co-author Mary Anne Jamieson, an Associate Professor in Queen”s Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics.

Corrupt babus to face pension cut‎

New Delhi, September 09: Bureaucrats face a 10% loss of pension for minor cases of corruption and a 20% cut for major infringements that lead to compulsory retirement from service.

In a bid to deter corruption, government will soon implement the decision taken by the Group of Ministers on corruption. Cases of public servants accused of graft will be fast tracked by quickening the process of approvals. There is also a proposal to ensure that disciplinary action is decided within a year of a complaint being received.

Azad begins Telangana talks afresh

Hyderabad, September 09: The issue of state bifurcation is at the centrestage once again.

AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad has invited Seemandhra leaders to Delhi for talks on Sept 12 in an attempt to bring about a consensus in the Congress.

Delhi blast: CCTVs for high court were stuck for 3 years

New Delhi, September 09: Caught in procedural wrangling between Delhi government, PWD and Delhi Police, the project to install CCTVs at the high court perimeter was delayed by years.

This is what prompted a committee of judges on Thursday to ask the Electronics Corporation of India (ECIL) to immediately install 49 cameras.

Though the project to install CCTV cameras in HC is more than three years old, meetings and paperwork is all that happened for three months after the low-intensity blast at one of the HC gates in May.
