Anti-govt. protests continue in Bahrain

Manama, September 11: Bahraini protesters took to the streets in several villages across the country on Saturday night.

Chanting slogans against the ruling family, the protesters also demanded the release of demonstrators held by the regime.

On Friday, thousands of people poured to the streets in a demonstration organized by Bahrain’s largest opposition bloc, al-Wefaq.

According to organizers, the Friday protest was to show that the people of Bahrain would not back down from their demands.

‘Blair in no position to comment on Iran’

London, September 11: The Islamic Republic of Iran has censured former British Prime Minister Tony Blair over his call for regime change in Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Saturday that Blair is in no position to make such comments about the Islamic Republic, the Fars news agency reported.

The Iranian official said it would be better for Blair to talk about the wrong policies adopted during his premiership rather than making “interfering remarks about other countries.”

US to mark 9/11 anniv. amid doubts

New York, September 11: The United States is preparing to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, amid doubts about the official account of the events.

Official ceremonies are planned in three locations, where four reportedly hijacked commercial airliners slammed into the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

Ganesh procession today, old city transformed into police barracks

Hyderabad, September 11: Strict security arrangements have been made by city police in view of central Ganesh procession today at Hyderabad. Apart from the city police paramilitary squads and additional police have also been deployed.

Besides tank bund the police have virtually blockaded all the sensitive places and the mosques, dargahs and chillas wrapped with sheets on the routes of procession.

City police commissioner Mr. A K Khan has directed city police force to remain vigilant and search operation is on.

Water released from Nagarjuna Sagar

Nalgonda, September 11: 26 crest-gates of Nagarjuna Sagar have been lifted in view of heavy inflow of water from Krishna River and 2.76 lakhs cusecs water is being released. The water level in Nagarjuna Sagar has gone up to 584 ft while the full level of Nagarjuna Sagar project is 590 feet.

Azharuddin’s son critically injured, Khaliq’s Son Dead: Updated

Hyderabad, September 11: Mohammed Aiyazuddin, son of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, was battling for life after he met with an accident while racing his 1000 cc imported Suzuki motorcycle on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Aiyazuddin played for Hyderabad under-19 cricket team. His friend, Ajmal-ur-Rehman, 16, who was riding with him and sustained severe head injuries was declared dead by doctors at the Apollo Hospital, Jubilee hills.

Gaddafi generals arrive in Burkina Faso

Tripoli, September 11: A number of Libyan generals loyal to fugitive ruler Muammar Gaddafi have reportedly arrived in Burkina Faso after passing through Niger.

An unnamed source from Niger’s Tuareg community said on Friday that a convoy of armored vehicles first brought the generals into Niger via the northern Nigerien town of Agadez some three to four weeks ago, AFP reported.

The source added that they then headed for Niamey, the capital of Niger, and made a transaction at the Libyan bank Bisic before entering Burkina Faso.

Principal beats students & arrested

Vikarabad, September 11: The principal of the Krishnaveni Talent School in Vikarabad on Friday beat around 20 children till a cane and a ruler that he was using broke and continued hitting them with his hands for remaining absent from school without obtaining prior permission.

He was taken into custody on Saturday. The students, who are studying in Classes VI, VII and VII, had stayed home to celebrate Ganesh festival on Friday. After the incident, the parents of the severely injured students staged a dharna and demanded that the principal be punished.

CIA drone attacks will remain secret

Washington, September 11: The CIA is not legally required to inform the public about the use of unmanned drones to kill suspected terrorists, US District Judge Rosemary Collyer has ruled.

The ruling was made on Friday in a case in which the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) challenged the CIA’s decision to reject a Freedom of Information Act request on the issue, the Associated Press reported on Saturday.

The CIA had said that anything about the relevant records is basically classified information.

Clarify stand on ‘T’ by Sept 12: JAC to Azad

Hyderabad, September 11: The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee demanded that the Central Government clear its stand on Telangana by September 12.

Talking to reporters after the JAC meeting held at Telangana Film Chambers here on Saturday, JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram asked the in-charge of Congress affairs in the State Ghulam Nabi Azad to spell out his stand on the Telangana. He reminded that Azad would be meeting Seemandhra leader on Sept 12 and immediately after the meeting, he must clarify his party’s stand on Telangana.

Hyderabad, September 11: The Telugu Desam Party on Saturday demanded that the State Government release a White Paper on the status of unemployment in the State.

T Cong leaders agree to discuss Hyderabad as common capital

Hyderabad, September 11: The proposal of having Hyderabad as the common capital of Telangana and Seemandhra states has found many takers, at least in the Congress party.

Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar mooted a proposal stating that Hyderabad be made the common capital in case the state is bifurcated. Arun Kumar personally discussed the proposal after meeting several Telangana leaders.
