T leaders not eyeing for posts: Vivek

New Delhi, September 13: Congress MP from Peddapalli G Vivek on Monday stated that the Telangana Congress leaders were not eyeing for any posts except for the formation of Telangana state.

Talking to media persons, Vivek appealed to the Congress high command to give all posts to Seemandhra leaders and in return, announce statehood for Telangana region.

Congress may not contest Banswada by-polls

Hyderabad, September 13: The Congress party may not contest the by-elections for Banswada assembly seat scheduled to be held on October 13.

According to sources, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana is of the view that the party should boycott the Banswada by-polls to avoid further criticism by the pro-Telangana activists. In the last by-elections held after the resignation of TRS MLAs, the party faced a humliating defeat in all the constituencies. Apprehending a similar fate, many Congress leaders including the PCC President wants to avoid the by-polls.

`T’ talks hit dead-end, strike on

Hyderabad, September 13: The talks have failed and the situation has reached a flashpoint from where only an aggressive posture appears to be heading for its logical, though unwarranted, end.

State Govt indicted for ‘Crop Holiday’

Hyderabad, September 13: The Mohan Kanda Committee constituted to study the recent ‘Crop Holiday’ declared by farmers in Godavari districts has indicted the State Government of being responsible for the farmer’s woes.

The committee, headed by former Chief Secretary Mohan Kanda, in its report submitted to the government on Monday pointed out ‘gross negligence’ of officials at various levels that forced the farmers to declare ‘Crop Holiday’ after they failed to get remunerative prices for their produce.

TDP unveils agitation schedule on farmers’ issue

Hyderabad, September 13: The Telugu Desam Party will organize dharnas in front of district Collectorates across the State on September 19 to protest against the State Government’s ‘indifferent attitude’ towards farmers’ problems.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Monday, Naidu slammed the government for not responding to the farmers’ pleas for help for the last so many months. He alleged that the state government’s lack of response to the farmers’ woes was forcing them to commit suicide.

Withdraw general strike, appeals Botsa

Hyderabad, September 13: Pradesh Congress President Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday appealed to the Telangana leaders to call off the proposed general strike from September 13.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa said that the general strike would cause lot of inconvenience to the common man. He said that both the Central and State Governments were trying to resolve the issue and the deliberations have already started in New Delhi. Keeping in view the inconvenience that the general strike would cause to the public, the Telangana leaders must withdraw the call.

Ganesh leaves 1300 MT of garbage in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, September 12: The final Ganesh immersion procession has generated an additional garbage of nearly 1300 Metric Tonnes in just 24 hours.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has engaged a strong contingent of 2500 personnel to clean the garbage en-route 15 kilometers of procession route. According to the GHMC, as many as 1100 people were hired for entomology and another 1400 for sweeping the roads after the procession.

One dead, two hurt over Rs.300

Islamabad, September 12: A man was shot dead and his brother and mother were injured when their uncle opened fire following a row over Rs.300 in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The shooting took place in Charsadda district.

Tayyab Jan had demanded that his uncle Mohammad Jan return a loan of Rs.300, Dawn reported.

An angry Mohammad Jan opened indiscriminate fire, killing Tayyab. The victim’s brother Sahir Jan and mother were also injured.

Verdict a huge step forward: Setalvad

New Delhi, September 12: Terming it a huge step forward, social activist Teesta Setalvad Monday said the prayer of the petitioner had been granted by the Supreme Court, which directed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to file its report in the trial court in the 2002 Gulberg Society massacre in Gujarat.

“Our demands that an FIR be registered in the riots case and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be handed over the case has been accepted by the apex court,” she said.

Minor improvement in Ayaz condition, but remain critical
