Azharuddin’s son remains unconscious, kidney removed

Hyderabad, September 13: Former cricketer Mohd Azharuddin’s son Ayazuddin, who was grievously injured in a road mishap here, remained unconscious for the third day today and his condition continues to be critical, doctors said.

According to Dr Hari Prasad, CEO of Apollo Hospital, nephrectomy (removal of kidney) was done on Ayazuddin today.

A medical bulletin issued in the evening by Apollo Hospital said Ayazuddin has remained unconscious and his neurological status continues to be a cause of grave concern.

Jamia sacks professor over “communal remarks”, faces criticism

New Delhi, September 13: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has sacked Prof. Prahlad K Basu, one of its visiting faculties at the Centre for Management Studies (CMS) over his “communal” remarks. Prof. Basu, on his part, has outright rejected the allegation and regarded himself as a victim of the internal politics of the department.

I am upset, disappointed: Zakia Jafri

Ahmedabad, September 13: Zakia Jafri, wife of former MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the Gulberg Society carnage during the 2002 riots, Monday said that she was “upset and disappointed” over the Supreme Court’s decision asking a trial court to hear the case.

Speaking to reporters in Surat, Zakia Jafri said: “I am upset and disappointed with the Supreme Court’s decision. I’m not saying that I don’t believe in Supreme Court, but there is a possibility that they missed out on something.”

“If the Supreme Court could not do anything, what can I expect from the lower court.”

Women workers should not be asked to remove niqab

Jeddah, September 13: Labor Minister Adel Fakeih emphasized his ministry’s desire to apply rules that regulate women’s employment in the private sector.

According to the law, the employer should abide by the Shariah law while employing women.

Fakeih said the ministry would not show any leniency toward companies that put conditions such as showing face for women to get employed. “We’ll deal with such violations on the basis of law.” He urged niqab-wearing women workers or jobseekers to inform the ministry if any company imposes such conditions.

Malegaon Youths are innocent, NIA admits

Malegon, September 13: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has finally concluded that the nine Muslim youths who were arrested and jailed in 2006 in connection with the Malegaon blasts are innocent, a media report claimed.

“In a U-turn from its previous stand, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted an internal report to the NIA saying only the right-wing Hindutva group activists arrested last year should be probed for the blast”, leading electronic TV channel NDTV claimed in its report published September 13.

CBI trying to illegally detain Reddys

Hyderabad, September 13: The jailed mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy and the managing director of his Obulapuaram Mining Company (OMC) BV Srinivas Reddy are now awaiting the court orders on their bail application.

The Reddys roped in two senior lawyers Uday Lalit and CV Nagesh to argue on their behalf, the way the former minister of Karnataka was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).The special CBI court, however, reserved till Tuesday its orders on the duo’s bail petitions.

Taliban fire rockets at US embassy in Kabul

Kabul, September 13: Taliban insurgents attacked the embassy district in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Tuesday.

At least four loud explosions were heard in the embassy district, and gunfire was heard after one of the blasts.

Police say militants are firing rockets at the US Embassy.

According to police official Mohammed Zahir, a large group of gunmen are firing from positions in a tall office building that is under construction near the US embassy.

Honour killing: Student killed by girlfriend’s mom

Faridkot, September 13: In a case of honour killing, an engineering student, who was missing since last month, was allegedly killed by the mother of a girl with whom he had an affair, police said on Tuesday.

Amandeep Kaur, who was arrested yesterday, during interrogation confessed to pushing Gurtej Singh into a canal as she was against her daughter’s relationship with the youth, they said.

Gurtej, a student of Adesh Engineering College, had gone missing from his house on the night of August 26. His family had received ransom calls demanding Rs 1 crore.

Fish building will be complete soon

Hyderabad, September 13: Union Agriculture minister Mr. Sharad Pawar had laid the foundation stone of fish building (NFDB head quarter) on July 11, 2009 on the occasion of Indian Fish Festival. The fish building is being constructed by National Fisheries development Board. The construction is in full swing on Rajendarnagar, Vadi-e-Mahmood, National highway 7 on the 5.13 acre land of NFDB. To give colour to the head quarter a fish like complex is being constructed with an expenditure of nearly 20 crore rupees. The building is likely to be completed by October.
